and Good morning, everyone and welcome.
It's FBC NFL Live.
It's Sunday, October the 18th when we got a full slate, especially at the one o'clock, our full slate of action.
I am joined today as always every Sunday by braiding whole tech r f BC CHIEFS managing editor And he's not on camera.
But I assure you he's on the phone.
It is Ryan advert Dorada are Cardinals and 40 Niners managing editor Ryan Brandon.
How we doing today? We're ready for some football, for sure.
Always ready. Definitely.
With the full slate of games we have today, it's a It's an early morning for me, but let's get ready.
Let's let's do this.
Yes, Full disclosure.
Ryan is on the West Coast hence why he is not on camera.
Hey, did not have enough time to get his beauty rest last night.
I don't play them. Look, I understand.
Don't No, I'm not blaming you for it.
I I get where we're going, and we appreciate you getting up this early because I was asleep at seven o'clock my town.
I'll tell you that much.
E will come about like a 30 minutes ago, but it is.
It's nice in Arizona right now, so I can't complain, right? Exactly.
Exactly. At least it's not 20 degrees.
So no, we got a We got a great week of NFL football.
We got the okay this morning from Adam Schefter.
All tests came back negative this morning.
So at least for a day, we're out of the woods.
And I say that kind of sarcastically because I I do have a problem with the, uh, the phrase Oh, yeah, We're all clear for today, and you know we'll cross that bridge when we get there later in the week.
But for now, everything's all clear.
All these games will go on as scheduled.
And look, there's some big games on this list.
Obviously Monday Night Chiefs bills.
I think that that's obviously a big, um, you know, a big It's big for the A F.
Obviously you have the chief's that air just coming off their first loss.
The bills, um, coming off their first loss.
So what are the bills? Who knows? We'll find out, we'll get into that a little bit, but we're gonna try to focus a lot more on Sunday because we got obviously the big quarterback duel with Green Bay and Tampa Bay facing off.
So before we get to that, though, guys, I gotta ask You were getting to the point of the season.
Now, if folks, if you're out there, if you want to chime in on SportsCastr, definitely feel free.
We'd love to hear from you.
Let us get your thoughts.
If you're listening on the radio, well, we'll just listen to us and try toe.
But I gotta ask you guys were getting to the point now where we only have a handful of undefeated teams left in the league right now.
We have Green Bay at four.
No, we have Pittsburgh at four.
No, Seattle at 50 and Tennessee at four. No.
So I'm gonna ask you both which of those four teams are most likely to remain undefeated? The longest.
And mind you, Green Bay has a big matchup against the bucks.
Uh, in their top ranked defense or one of the one of the top ranked defense is so I'll start with you.
And since you're on camera, give Reina Okay, I'm I'm gonna go with Seattle just because I know that Pittsburgh Tennessee matchup is coming up soon, Um, after the rescheduling, and I just, you know, with that matchup today, I'm not sure if Green Bay comes out with the wind and the waste.
Russell Wilson's playing right now.
I think you just gotta gotta look at Seattle, especially last week when they had to start.
They did with the Vikings.
Um, you know, you just can't count them out.
And I think that's exemplified even a little bit more right now with the way their offense is, um, seemingly playing at a higher level than they have before with Russell Wilson.
So I'm gonna go with the Seahawks.
What do you think, Ryan? I mean, I'd have to agree with him.
I mean, look at the Seahawks and they're just playing at just this insane level on offense, and it comes down to Russell's.
You know, he's probably going to be the NFL's M v P.
I know it's early, but still, you know, he's playing just out of his out of his mind, and you know, the biggest issue with the Seahawks is their defense.
But so far no one's been able to really take advantage of it.
to the extent that they've been able to beat them yet.
And I'm obviously, you know, the Vikings had their chance.
They you know, they made their mistakes that they typically do.
But I mean, the Seahawks, they're just so good right now on offense that they're being, they're able to mask everything, and that's that's just crazy, I think of, but yeah, I definitely would agree with great in there.
Well, how and I probably I'm gonna have to agree with you.
I actually did pick Green Bay toe win today.
I do think both Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady will have a good game, but I do think the Packers are just playing better as a team right now.
So I do think Green Bay continues to be undefeated, but I do believe that Seattle is gonna last the longest.
But how concerned are you, though, about this defense? Because to me, it is very concerning long term, because you know when they start to go, I mean, we're talking about an inch difference between them losing to the Patriots on beating the Patriots.
And I know again, you know, if ifs and buts were candy and nuts, you know, we'd all have a merry Christmas.
You all know the same.
But the point is, is like their defense has been letting up a lot of point at a pretty historic level.
And And look, I'm not going to shy away from the fact that at this point through five weeks, uh, this has been the highest scoring season in NFL history and and it shouldn't surprise anyone.
We're getting that pretty much every other year now.
It's just the way the game is going.
But, um, even so, I still feel at the end of the day, though, if Seattle doesn't fix their defense of problems, I think the bucks, they're gonna get better.
Their defense is already better.
I think the Packers defense is already better right now, and I think they're only gonna get better as the season goes on.
So I guess on ah, level of 1 to 10 10 being, uh, they're gonna go one and done in the postseason because their defense is just not gonna be able to compete.
What? Where are you guys right now? One through 10.
Panic level for that defense, I'd probably go with a six just because I think right now they I think where they're hurting the most on the back end, I think they could mask that a little bit as long as the pass rush can figure something out.
Uh, later on in the regular season.
What do you think? Right.
You know, it's hard to say because of the fact that you wonder how much of the front seven can kind of mask that, like Brady mentioned.
Um, if we're talking about looking at the playoffs, then I probably put a little higher maybe like 87 or eight.
Just because you're looking at the teams right now who look like, you know, bona fide playoff contenders, and you just see teams that are a lot more complete.
Um, maybe teams that aren't as off offensively explosive right now, but just teams that are getting there and the defense's are are already starting to pick up.
And you just look at that division.
If Seattle doesn't get, you know, the home field advantage.
If if they're having to play on the road after, you know at least maybe the first week or the divisional round, If they're having to do that, then there's a good chance that they're they're gonna falter because we've seen Seattle teams playing on the road in the playoffs.
So I put it in an eight because it's it's very dangerous.
And you're playing against teams in the NFC that have very good, you know, combination run and pass games.
And I just I don't think that eventually they're gonna get going to catch up with them, and you know, it'll probably in the playoffs.
Look, I'm kind of right there with you.
I'll go with the seven.
So we're 67 and eight.
I think we're all kind of thinking along the same lines because, yeah, I mean, their offense is playing out of this world.
I think No doubt that Brandon is upgrading.
I'm looking at Brandon, and I'm thinking that Brady is gonna be the M V p. No.
I think Russell Wilson is obviously, uh, the M V P frontrunner.
Right now, I think Aaron Rodgers is right there in the round.
But I think those two guys have again kind of separated themselves Right now.
It's early, and things can certainly change, but I would just worry because and I'm gonna ask you, Ryan, here in a minute, because you do have some, uh, experience, uh, watching Bruce areas somewhat, pretty, somewhat closely.
Um, I do believe the bucks will get better.
I think this is just an example of this team just finding out who they are with so many new parts and obviously the biggest being the quarterback.
Um, I think you've already seen the offense, uh, improve each week.
I mean, obviously there has been struggles.
Uh, certainly no doubt.
But I think that's a team right now that isn't probably talked about with Green Bay and Seattle are rightfully so.
They have a couple losses, a couple bad losses to, uh, But I think at the end of the season, I'm still putting my money on the Bucks to be probably one of the best two teams in the NFC.
And even with their struggles right now, I think their defense is is far better than Seattle.
My biggest concern, though, and this is getting to what I was alluding to just a moment ago is what is Bruce Arians going to screw this up, Ryan? Because I've learned quite a bit about him very early on watching him, and he seems very stubborn.
Um, obviously, the Bucks are one of the most penalized teams in the in the league.
And that obviously speaks directly.
Thio how this team is coach, and it always is when your team is over penalized. Undisciplined.
Um, is Bruce Arians enough to derail what could be a potential, uh, Tampa Bay trifecta when it comes to participating in League Championship? Siri's? You know, it's tough for me to really want.
I want to say yes.
And the reason why I have the trepidation is because, you know, Bruce Arians did a lot of good when he was in Arizona.
Um, you know, he basically brought the team from, um, a streaky team.
When Ken wasn't wasn't charged.
Granted, they went to the Super Bowl, but with Bruce Arians, it kind of came down to if there were just a couple of injuries that didn't happen, namely to like Tyron Matthew in the 2015 season.
Then there's a good chance they would have at least you know, been to the Super Bowl and and maybe put up a better fight than we saw from Carolina.
Yeah, but the biggest problem with the Bruce Arians team is the undisciplined play, and we saw it here in Arizona.
It's followed him now to talk.
Kobe and his team just commit way too many penalties.
Theofanis of Line could never seem to play well enough and long enough, you know, structures of the season, and it's a difficult offense to pick up.
So, having it this first year with Tom Brady, um, having to rely on the defense, you know they have the parts there.
But I just I don't think they have the discipline at the end of day to not shoot themselves in the foot enough times that it won't come back to bite them.
Well, we we saw 1/6 straight offensive penalties.
I mean, I mean, you think I'm screwing that up? No.
Six straight offensive penalties against the Bears on Thursday Night Football, and we're talking just bad.
Bad? I mean, Dr Killing.
And you know, this is what was so funny about people getting all up in arms about Tom Brady yelling at his offensive line.
It's like, Have you ever seen offensive line played that atrocious? Uh, in that short of span, I mean, it was absurd and throw in the middle of that.
Just the bad unsportsmanlike penalty called Thio.
Ryan Jensen, who he was yelling at, You know, So again, I thought it was kind of silly.
All these people getting, you know, angry at Tom when it's like, Did you not see that play? I mean, if you're if you're a football fan, you should be disgusted.
I know, Ryan, you're a big You're a big line guy.
So, like watching that offensive line just commit, you know, penalty after penalty, and it's just like it's frustrating.
I kind of work because I do.
I have a lot of high hopes.
A lot of it is because of Tom Brady, and we have seen it improved offensively for them, and we've seen what difference he can make in these games.
But at the end of the day, if you know he could do all he wants.
But if if every drive gets killed by a bad holding call or just undisciplined play or just overall poor offensive line plate, that's that's certainly concerning.
So we'll see, though this is gonna be a tough test for them against Green Bay but I'm I'm still holding out.
Hope I Although I am a little bit more concerned with Arians.
Uh, nonetheless So So do we agree that you know You know, Green Bay, Seattle? Yeah, Tampa Bay.
I mean I mean, I'm because, look, I the Saints, I I think the saints are, I don't know, running on fumes, You know what I mean? I think eventually, uh, you in order them for I think I just don't know how long Drew is going to be.
Not a hindrance to the team, You know what I mean? I think he's all right now, but at some point, I do think that he's going to, uh, take a step back.
Uh, maybe I thought the rams in the mix as one of those top teams.
I'm still kind of, you know, moving Rick.
Aw, Shin when it comes to them because I'm like, Okay, who are there? The 2018 are the 2019.
What do you guys? Thoughts? Third best team in the NFC fourth best team.
What are we looking at here? Yeah, I'd probably say the third best just because when you mentioned the Rams, I would like to say like so far, you look at the teams they beat, Uh, it's the to New York teams, Jets and Giants on.
Then the other two NFC East teams Dallas. Philly.
So, you know. Yeah.
I mean, I just I think the bucks just having Tom Brady like he said, I mean, he can he can do just enough on his own.
I think that, you know, if the offense is lacking in one area, I think he'll figure out how Thio kind of, um, kind of help hide down a little bit and make sure the guys that need to be featured are getting the touches that they need and kind of maybe go up to produce areas like you said.
And maybe maybe, uh, kind of persuade him to change his tendencies a little bit.
So I definitely think right now, though, that Tampa Bay should be the, uh, considered the third best team in the NFC.
Yeah, I feel like they're kind of like a horse that, you know, it's a slow starter, but just wait for the final leg.
But then again, they could come around the corner break their leg because offensive lineman committed a terrible penalty or wasn't in position.
Ryan, what do you feel? Third best team, fourth best team? Uh, Rams bucks.
Who do you got? I mean, right now it's It's hard for you to say, you know, to not say that the Buccaneers are the third best team just because you look at what's there on paper and it comes down to Tom Brady.
You know, we talked about the Bruce Arians offense and his biggest.
His biggest thing is, you know, um, no risk in a biscuit.
So his biggest issue has always been a quarterback who can, you know, make the smart decisions within that offense.
And he had it for the most part of Carson Palmer.
And he has it with Tom Brady.
So you're hoping that Brady can kinda kind of override some of the issues that would happen under an Arians offense? Um, but this point of the season, like usually like both of you, just said, you know, the Rams just aren't proving it, you know, they have, ah, interesting game this week that we're probably talking about, but aside from that, I would probably put them in the top four, but definitely, you know, you're looking at the Buccaneers being in the top three, being the third team right now.
Well, and actually, let's let's go to that game because that's that's actually kind of how I was hoping to segue into it was talking about the Rams and them going traveling up north to take on Jimmy Garoppolo in the San Francisco 40 Niners.
Obviously, I you know, you cover the 40 Niners.
You obviously you're you.
You followed this team for a very, very long time.
I don't think I've seen a team.
It's certainly this season get hit more with the injury bug.
Two key players than San Francisco, and it's really it's caused, uh, their expectations to be reevaluated.
So I want to get from your perspective, Ryan, kind of where you see this team moving forward and specifically at the quarterback position.
Because obviously, the last time we saw Jimmy Garoppolo or at least recently, we saw Jimmy Garoppolo get pulled.
Um, I think it was Mawr injury related, just taking him out of the game.
But I want to get your opinion on it and what you think I mean I agree with the assessment that, you know, he was pulled primarily through through injury, not so much that his ankle was bad.
I think, um, in that first half, I want to see the first half.
There was a hit that he took that was just a complete blindside hit on.
He got create pretty well.
And I think that kind of, you know, open some eyes and saying Okay, well, if he's not 100% with his buddy, which he's not very mobile quarterback to begin with, But if he's not 100% in our line isn't playing very well again, then let's take him out.
And so that's what you saw.
But with him, I I do think that his his I guess his his his medium, his average is someone who is an above average quarterbacks.
So I think you can win with him.
I think he's a guy who can run the offense.
The problem is, they have Well, uh, I'm gonna be the first week where you pretty much have everyone there minus.
Obviously you're starting center who they haven't had for the entire season, and they probably won't have at least until very late, if at all this season.
Um, but yeah, you mentioned it with all the injuries, primarily on defense.
I mean, you're at one point playing against the Dolphins last week without your basically your top four, maybe top five cornerbacks.
At one point you had a guy play who had never played in the last, Like, basically played one game in the last two years, had never started the game before.
Um, I mean, right now you look at that team and with Jimmy Garoppolo, you're looking like Okay, well, maybe they'll win a few more games this year, but with how bad that defense is injured, it's, I mean, playoff start really thought anymore.
It's more or less is trying to figure out, Can he showed that he's willing or he's going to be worth the time and money.
Thio remain quarterback, and I think he can, But I just I don't think that this team is going to go far anymore.
This year, he has one year remaining on his.
How long does he have left on his contract? Cause I'm just confusing when the new one was signed and he probably is what one year, right? Or, um, I believe he has two, if not three.
But the way that they kind of redid the contract the way it's it's set up and the 400 do this very often is that after this year, they baking pretty much sever ties without too much of a financial impact.
Um, just the way that it's been reworked and restructured, so this year is basically his proven year for them.
I wouldn't be surprised if this team isn't able to turn it around and they're not able to contend and or he just isn't able to show that he's worth it.
I wouldn't be surprised if you know they try to trade him before the draft or they try or they just outright release him.
I doubt it'll come to that, but I think they would try to trade him before they released him.
They can basically, you know, get him out of there after this season.
No, and that's good for them.
Obviously, if they do decide they want to cut bait because good franchises, we'll make the tough decisions if necessary.
And that's look, I mean it.
It's not a knock on Jimmy Garoppolo.
The poor kid has dealt with some unfortunate setbacks and just situations and, you know, coming very close, obviously, to winning a Super Bowl and how that could have changed things this season.
Who knows? But, um, I I do think going back to that conversation that a lot of Patriots and 49 or Patriots fans had at the time was, Hey, was this a good decision? Well, yeah, I think it was a good decision.
There was never a knock on Jimmy Garoppolo because I like Jimmy.
I want to see him succeed.
I just I'm right there with you, Ryan.
I think he's, Ah, a better than average quarterback.
I'm just not entirely sure that, like, I think, like to say that he can't win games for the 40 Niners is absurd.
He can win games.
We've seen him win games for the 40 Niners.
Um, to do it consistently is the thing Can he consistently be relied upon for an entire season for an entire playoff run to win game after game after game after game? And that's the question, and right now, currently with without with all the injuries, I mean this team in general, like you said, is is I think playoffs, even with the extra team at it, is certainly in question.
But I wouldn't call it necessarily a long shot.
So we're going to shift real quick today, FC and I gotta I gotta know Brandon chomping at the bit to talk about the chiefs here.
I wanna ask you real quick.
Actually, I'm going to give you my opinion on the Levian Bell signing, and I'm going to then ask you about yours.
So I said this on Friday, I believe, and I can't really keep track of when I say things because I say a lot of things and a lot of times they don't make sense so whatever.
But I look at this signing as yes, I think he's an incredibly talented player.
And I think he's He makes that Chiefs offense better.
I just don't think he makes it more dynamic.
I just think he does what Clyde Edwards lair does better, Um, which to me is great.
I mean, it's great for the Chiefs offense, but they're not adding a different dimension that they didn't have before, So I don't necessarily think this is a huge needle mover because again you can only have 11 players on the field.
It's not like you signed. Leave Ian Bell.
And you know, now you have 12 players and you have him and Hilaire and all the other players.
So I think it's a good move for the Chiefs, I think is a no brainer move for the Chiefs.
Why not? I mean, we've seen this happen with the Patriots for years, where it's like you.
You take fliers on talented football players and and and they make you better.
But, um, I I just Yeah, I just like I said, I just I kind of look at this is a good move, but not one that necessarily like, I don't look at the a f c today and say, Oh, my God, that like I know some people are saying like it's unfair.
The Chiefs are unstoppable.
No, I I still think they're probably the best team, if not the second best team in the A f. C.
But I mean, I just I wanted I just yeah, I think overall, the biggest thing that he adds is in the past, past catching on pass protection game, and I think that's a good thing as far as past protecting, because Clyde not having those offseason or preseason reps, uh, kind of gives him some time to learn that and create ah, bigger craft at that.
I think overall as a pass catcher, he's probably a little bit better than Edward Celera's faras tracking the football on his naturalness because as far as his hands and his route running, um, but, yeah, I think I think overall, it's just putting him in a role where Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes can kind of fit him in.
And I think as that third down role where they were kind of relying more on Darryl Williams.
Um, certainly he's an upgrade over Darryl.
I mean, I think there's unfortunate for unfortunately for Williams, I think he's suffered some some tough injuries.
But overall, I think you look at you know you put those two players side by side.
I think you'd rather have Bill, but um yeah, I think it's gonna be more of a complementary role.
The thing they've kind of wanted to do with Clyde is have him get the majority of the snaps at about a 60 to 40 rate s, so I think that will stay the same.
And overall, you I think you hit it right on the head with this is a kind of move that when they made it, it reminded me of the Patriots getting these players that, you know, coming off a tough time with the team.
They were just on and still some talent there trying to get what you can out of it.
And hopefully, you know, that could maybe make a difference in the postseason, depending on your matchups.
I do think in the past came also, um, kind of just seeing how defense's have gone about defending the homes in the past attack the last two weeks.
I think it will actually help maybe, uh, make the boxes a little heavier again, Maybe bring those linebackers back down, so I think that could be a benefit.
But overall, Yeah, I don't I don't think this will be ah, groundbreaking move, but I think this will add another, um, another part to the offense where they were kind of lacking right now when they're slumping according to their standards.
No, I you brought up a good point that leave.
Ian Bell is a really good pass blocker.
Obviously, we've seen him.
Excuse me, do it for years and in front of, ah, quarterback or behind the quarterback are you want to phrase it on Ben Roethlisberger, who's obviously not, you know, as him and Patrick Mahomes have fairly similar similar mobility.
Obviously, Patrick Mahomes has Mawr breakaway speed and could make bigger plays.
But But Roethlisberger, even despite his size, was able to kind of move around a little bit.
You know, relative Thio what quarterbacks were doing when he first got into the league.
So I mean, it's not too dissimilar of a ah player in that sense.
So I do think that actually helps because you brought up a good point and we saw the brother of a Chiefs offensive lineman come to the aid of the Chiefs, uh, offensive line lineman recently, and he brought up some good points and and look, I think there's some truth in the middle here because, you know, a lot of people look on the surface and say, you know, look at the scrambling from Patrick Mahomes and just think it's a great football.
But there are times where, and I pointed this out with other players to and and other you know, players have been, you know, they take off too early, which which hurt your offensive lineman like you can only do so much.
Oh, are you can only be expected to do so much as, ah, in pass protection if you know the quarterbacks just running away.
And, like I said, I think there's been a little too much ignorant ignoring that and then a little bit too much now putting it all like, Oh, no, it's It's Patrick Mahomes making the linemen look bad.
No, it's it's It's somewhere in the middle.
They have to find the balance.
Perhaps leave Ian Bell.
Is that balance? What do you think, Ryan? Well, you know, Brady mentioned it.
Libyan Bell is just the upgrade in the passing game, and that's what that is.
Um, you know, when when the news came out that he was looking at Kansas City, that made just the most sense for everyone because of the fact that you know he's for the most part, gotten his money, and now it's about winning the championships.
And if he can be an important piece in the championship winning team.
Then why wouldn't he be able to sign another relatively good size contract, you know, to finish out his career? So for him, it makes the most sense.
But if you look at the Chiefs offense, you know, obviously they're not the problem.
And they're shoring up one of the few weaknesses, really, that they have it if you can, if you can even call that a weakness.
But the biggest problem is going to be the defense having to just slow down other offenses.
And, you know, the, um, Bell isn't the one that's necessary gonna fix that.
But if they can, you know, stay on the field a little bit more, which is crazy to think about if they can even just help out the defense in a little way, you know, in a little bit.
Then he's gonna make a difference.
But it's not gonna be the, you know, groundbreaking, earth shattering type of, um, impact that some people are thinking it will be a couple of years ago.
We're talking about the killer people, and and I thought Ryan brought up a good point there.
Go ahead. Sorry.
You cut off there. I don't mean to interrupt Here.
Sorry, I I just thought Yeah, Ryan made a good point.
That I wanted to note onto Was was the money part of it? I think that's where I think Miami really made a lot of sensing the salary cap space that they had eso to see him only signed for $1 million base salary.
I think kind of speaks Thio How much he's willing to win right now.
In this point in his career, Well and again, it's it's nice that the Jets air footing a huge portion of, ah, paycheck for him.
But, you know, that's the thing I would start Thio, bring up you think back to a couple of years ago Pittsburgh Ben Roethlisberger, Antonio Brown, Levian Bill.
I mean, they were widely considered the best trio in the NFL.
I I don't think that there was any combination of of wide receiver running back and wide receiver at that high of a level in the NFL at the time, so people are, you know, obviously clamoring for that and, uh, look at look at where they are now, like last year given, see, and here's ah, real quick and this is what I think.
The difference is, I think, and unfortunately didn't work out.
And I will always go to the grave thinking that if Antonio Brown was still remember the Patriots for an entire year last year, they're probably going to the Super Bowl because they were desperately missing that player on offense.
Whereas I still think the Chiefs could could, you know, run it back or have a successful playoff run had they not signed Levian Bell? Um, I I thought, obviously, I think Antonio Brown.
It's more crucial to the success of the Patriots on.
We saw it in such a very small, short sample size, what he could have done and helped, you know, create in that offense.
Um, but again, like I said that to me, I just think the Chiefs are a really good team right now.
I think the Patriots were desperately lacking that dynamic on the offensive side of the ball, especially late in the season, which would have could have on maybe, perhaps should have made a difference.
Um but we're not going to spend much time in the past.
We're not here to talk about the past.
We're here to talk about the now the present, and right now we have.
Like I said, hold on.
I gotta I gotta find my Okay. Here it is.
See, I got I got all my papers.
I gotta make sure I got the right ones.
Another game that sticks out.
Speaking of Pittsburgh, is Pittsburgh at Cleveland? Okay, I think I think it's not surprising that Pittsburgh is good.
Um, they always have a good defense.
I think we were wondering what Ben Roethlisberger would look like when he came back.
I I do think obviously they were desperately needing a quarterback last year.
So you gotta assume they were gonna get better this year.
They're foreign one.
They look pretty good.
Ah, Chase Claypool.
I mean, how the hell this Pittsburgh do it? How do they just I mean, I just don't understand.
The patriots can't draft a receiver for the life.
I mean, I like Nikkila, Harry, and I'm not knocking him.
That's not this isn't the jury's still out on him.
I'm not going to sit here and say he's a bus.
But history prior to Mikhail Harry has shown that the Patriots have, uh, lacked a little bit when it comes to drafting, you know, wide receivers.
And that's, you know, with Pittsburgh kind of drafting in relatively same positions every year.
You know, uh, but they're going up against Cleveland, a team that has some pretty good offensive talent as well.
What do you guys make of Cleveland? What do you make of Pittsburgh and what do you What do you see in this game right now? Because this is a This is a pretty big game with Baltimore, I think. Struggling a bit.
Yeah, I guess. What? Cleveland.
I kind of thought about this earlier in the week.
I don't know if Baker Mayfield's really playing that differently than last year, when everyone was kind of on his case.
I think, really, it's just everyone around the building, and obviously the winds were coming.
So I think everyone's a lot happier.
I think that's really just the biggest difference, and they're kind of really not saying the wrong things anymore.
They're just kind of going out and playing football.
So, um, I think Kevin Stefanski with what he's done, Cleveland, uh, I think he's been the perfect guy for that team so far.
And as long as, um, I think the offense keeps playing the same way, they'll be fine.
I've actually been more surprised by their defense, especially on the back end in the secondary.
So, um, yeah, I think this will be a tight game today.
Um, you know, I think overall, with Pittsburgh, they're they're kind of used to making these, uh, plays in bigger games like this.
So, um, I don't know how Cleveland's gonna come out, but I think this is gonna be their best shot in a long time against the Steelers in Pittsburgh for sure.
What do you think, Right.
I mean, you know, you look at the Steelers and they have the healthy quarterback.
Finally, that was the Achilles last year.
E mean, that team would have been a solid playoff team if Roethlisberger hadn't gone down.
But you look at that Steelers offense, and, you know, like you said, they have, uh comes out of nowhere.
And that's the M O for that team.
But now it looks like, of course, you have the offensive line.
You need to get the run game going.
A little bit more, but you have the offense going.
The defense for them has been, you know, the story for the last couple of seasons.
And then you look at the other side.
You look the Browns, and you're finally getting the offensive consistency right now, Um, that said, I do agree that you know Baker Mayfield isn't playing any marginally better.
Baby, you could say that.
But you have that consistency on offense, and I I you know it.
I think it's obvious the reason why and you're looking at, um, which Stefanski there Now you're looking at a head coach who knows what he's doing.
Seems like, you know, they haven't had that.
It seems like for the last couple of seasons, but they have that kind of stability on offense where it doesn't force the defense into very bad situations on a regular basis.
Um, you know, you have that new coaching staff and can see the difference in that.
You know, the NFL is that one sport that really shows when you have a very good coaching staff versus a very average one.
So it looks like the Browns are poised to make a run to the playoffs.
I just I still don't think that there there where they can just knock off the ceiling right now.
I gotta agree with you.
I got I got this game being pretty close, and I just want to make sure I don't contradict myself. Yes, I do.
I did pick the sailors to win this game.
Um, look, Baker Mayfield again, like you guys said, he's having a He's having a pretty good season.
I think you know, no one's talking about the commercials right now because, well, they're winning.
And that was kind of the point.
Last year, their minds were too on too many different things, and they didn't have a coach that could really back in.
Uh, in fact, he actually made it worse.
I just thought I thought he was put it.
I think I thought Freddy Kitchens would put in a terrible position, So I don't think this is all on him.
I just don't think he was just ready for the job, especially with this team with the group of players that they had.
Um, this season, however, they're more focused.
They're more disciplined.
I mean, we talk about discipline earlier with the Bucks.
That's, you know, they're not going to go like Cleveland did last year, but the results could be the same.
They could be looking on the outside, looking in when it comes to the Super Bowl, if they don't fix their problems.
But they're more disciplined.
Baker Mayfield playing a steadier game, 247 yards passing last week was his season high, which, you know, you think Baker Mayfield in this, um, offensive season with all these weapons, you think, Oh, wow, that's only 247 yards, but it's not necessary.
You don't have toe throw a ton of yards.
You don't have to do all this toe win football games.
So good for them.
But on the other side, though, Ben Roethlisberger 10 touchdowns, one interception, not turning the ball over.
I mean, that's a big deal for for for Pittsburgh and right then and there.
That's a huge difference from what was happening last year at the quarterback position.
So, uh, that's gonna be a fun game to watch, and certainly one that I think I'm gonna, uh, really hone in on because, you know, we're talking about a pretty keen yet match up here in the A F C North.
I know. We're bouncing around.
We're gonna go to the A F C North real quick and slowly shift over to maybe that game tonight.
What do we make of them? I think they're better with Nick Foles.
How much better can you guys give me an answer to you to have a solid answer or you still uncertain like I am? Oh, I think I think we lost your Brandon.
Can you hear him? Ryan? I think I think Brady needs unread himself.
Did you meet yourself by bad? Yeah.
E did. Okay, Sorry.
I do think there better with bulls, but I just I don't really know what to make of them. I think there.
I mean, just with matt now. Yeah.
I don't know if he wants to be more of ah, guy that wants toe pound the rock or or lived through the air.
I just I really don't know what to make them offensively.
I think their defense is one of the few that can play defense so far in 2020.
So they do have that going for them.
But yeah, I just I don't know if anyone's really buying them at four and one right now, right? Yeah.
I mean, you look at what they've been able to do.
You look at the record and you know, the saying is, you know, a team is what the record is.
So therefore, on one team, so they're they're good.
Um, a lot of that I feel, you know, come down to the defense, you know, being as good as it can be and looking at the offense.
I mean, it's it's better with Nick Foles.
It's maybe a two or three game difference with Nick Foles.
But that's enough compared to what they had the last few seasons with Mitchell Robiskie.
So I do think they're a better team.
I don't think that there, you know, a top five team in the NFC.
Um, I think they're right, like, kind of just right along there, right there pushing the issue.
But I just I don't think that they're made for the long term because I don't think they what e out here don't know.
Uh, what do you.
So their opponent this week.
Panthers on the flip side, Matt role.
Teddy Bridgewater has been playing great.
Um, doing this without Christian McCaffrey.
What do you guys think of this team? And where do you? I'm starting to Kinda.
I thought they were gonna be good.
I think they're a little bit better than I expected on and it Z testament to Matt Rule.
And, you know, give Teddy Bridgewater is Do I mean, he's playing really good football right now? Yeah.
I think they just have really, really good coaching across the board, being able to pull Joe Brady and fill Snow in from the college ranks as well.
So I think really, it's just right now kind of what they got going.
It's, I think, awesome that they're kind of doing this because they didn't really have those expectations.
So there, I think, just able to go out, kind of play loose.
And I think it zilly been impressive to see their younger guys kind of step up.
I mean, you look at Jeremy Chin, um, kind of going back to the draft and right now, seeing Isaiah Simmons kind of as a chess piece, he's not really playing a lot of snaps for Arizona.
Jeremy Chin, uh, in different ways.
It's kind of doing that for Carolina at a higher rate.
So I think it's just been about as perfect as you could have it go almost for Carolina so far.
What do you think, Ryan? Yeah, I mean, you know, Carolina is a nice surprise.
You know, you're you're happy for what they've been able to do.
You know, you look at Matt Rule and he's done a great job so far, but you mentioned it earlier in with it zits, Teddy Bridgewater.
And he's just he's playing very well.
This is the Bridgewater that you figured you would have seen throughout his career with obviously the injuries.
But he's he's again a stable quarterback, not making many mistakes.
You know, they're they're playing to their their strength.
They have a very talented offense, especially at the wide receiver position.
You know, you have someone like like, you know, Mawr.
You have Anderson there, and just those two right there is a pretty good 12 punch and you know, there quietly, one of the better wide receiving groups you know, in the in the league.
So you saw them playing well so far this season.
You know, surprisingly, they probably should have, you know, one that game against the Raiders, but they made some mistakes on defense, but it's a very young team, and they're coming together.
Do I think they're a playoff team? By no stretch of the imagination? Do I think that yes, Um, there's a few more weeks that they have to kind of prove that they could do that, But, I mean, it's a pleasantly surprising and I mean, do I think they're gonna win? You know, today I guess I get the Bears.
I mean, I give them a, you know, a fighter's chance.
So you know, they're gonna They're gonna, you know, come out there.
They're going to compete and they're going to give us a good game.
Yeah, let's again.
I'm pleasantly surprised with the best of doing, but let's not forget that they won by one point last week, and I am committed six consecutive offensive penalties.
I mean, it's just it's just that the more I think about it, it's just absurd. It's absurd.
Look, I come from watching, uh, watching the Patriots play offense.
They committed their first offensive penalty in Week four, first of the entire season, in week four.
And And you saw six in a row from the Bucks offense.
And look, if I'm Tom Brady, I know he's having a good time.
I think again, I think a lot of this, um, has been fun for him.
But you're not gonna You're not gonna win games committing penalties like that On the flip side, Chicago given credit, they did win the game, but, uh, they can't depend on teams doing that each and every week, You know, unless they're playing the Jets and the bucks every single week.
Um, I'm gonna put you guys on the spot real quick before we shift to our two biggest games of the week because we have about 10 minutes left.
Um, and I didn't bring this up before, so this might really get your head scratching here a little bit.
We have two teams so far that have fired their head coaches.
Houston Texans, the Atlanta Falcons.
I think we both believe there.
Well, maybe before the season on for the Texans, there was talent on both of these teams, and I think they vastly underachieved.
Do you guys have a coach, assistant, current, head coach, current college coach? That comes to mind that that would be the perfect, annoyed, ideal candidate to fix either one of those teams.
If you don't have an answer, that's OK.
I'm really just throwing this out there because I just thought about it like three minutes ago.
So there's truly no preparation when it comes to this.
I'm really putting you on the spot here, so, yeah, I mean, Eric, the enemy, I mean, has come up a lot even more now this year.
So I think you'd be fine for both spots.
I think overall, he'd probably prefer maybe Houston just a little more because you have the younger quarterback into Shawn Watson.
Um, so, yeah, I mean, there's there's other options out there.
I think right now they're making their case and Brian table, he's kind of a little bit more under the radar, but that's kind of the really view at the NFL level that I would consider right now.
What do you think, right? I mean, I definitely like to be enemy, you know, He's kind of sitting there as a guy who probably will get the, you know, pick of the litter in terms of who's going to be the next head coach? Um, I honestly no, however, think that he would be the better fit in Atlanta because you kind of already have all those offensive weapons there.
Um, you could move Matt right after this season, go after one of the young quarterbacks, and I think he'd be perfect toe kind of groom that young quarterbacks.
So that's why I think it would fit there.
Because you look at the we'll talk so that the biggest problem is, how do you fix You know, the holes on that team without your 1st and 2nd round picks for the next couple of seasons? And that's the big issue, you know, because the team obviously is quite flawed.
You got rid of, you know, their best offensive player, and you basically got back someone who is an above average person in his position and David Johnson and who isn't making as big of an impact as it would have been if you kept DeAndre Hopkins.
So I mean, that team is probably set up, maybe to win now, But even then be very questionable If they can win now versus a team that's gonna be probably a contender again in the next few seasons.
If you could kind of get that ship right, it so I mean, definitely I would say the enemy, but in terms of anyone else, I mean, it's just such a long shot, because in the NFL, you don't know until you're there.
Um, and a lot of the good veteran head coaches are are taking.
So I mean, barring someone big, moving over, I don't see, you know, like Byron Leftwich.
I just I have still have a lot of questions with him because ah, lot of this, I think, is just you have Tom Brady there.
Um, that offense was very streaky last year, and so I just don't think he's quite there in terms of being a head coach.
But I definitely say be Enemy takes over one of those two teams.
Then that team probably becomes a contender if not next season, within the next couple of years.
Well, hey, you know, you always know Adam Gates will probably be the well to this offseason, so if you want to re tread.
You can go with that, um, gays.
That would be terrible.
Whoever made that to say, i e I still don't understand why the jet set it, but then again, I think it's well, it's the Jets.
So speaking of the Jets, we're not gonna talk about their game in the afternoon.
We're actually gonna talk about Thea other games that are going on tomorrow.
First of all, we have chiefs and bills.
I do want to get your picks, because I know I said, uh, I picked the packers, and I can't remember.
Did you guys say one way or the other, who you're picking in the Bucks and Packers game? I know I had I was I was living with the package.
I think brain was too.
Yeah, I think we might have actually might have lost great.
And again if not, he's really angry and has a very, very frozen in time face.
But we'll just kind of leave that up there.
Oh, there he is. Okay.
There he is. Yep.
Looks like the old Josh Allen where you know, he wasn't really that good.
Um, obviously, I think we know what the defense is.
I think we realized the defense is really good.
I'm I think I mean, I don't know. I don't know what to make of this.
What you guys think of the bills.
First of all, I think they're a good team.
But, um, also, I think people are very quick to put them at the top A f C East.
And look, there's some very concerning things from the bills that I saw Ryan, because I again I think we might be, uh, losing brain here.
I'm gonna ask you first, where you concerned level, I guess with the bills.
And what do you see? Them as as a team right now at four in one.
You know, I'm not too concerned with the performance since the the Titans and you mentioned it.
I think we're just everything going on.
It's a very young team still on.
Don't necessarily mean in age.
I just mean an experience and even even, you know, with which I'm admit there.
There's still a relatively young team.
They haven't gone through a lot of these trials and tribulations, so I think it was more or less them not being able to get up for the game when they probably could have or should have.
I do think this week that they're gonna be a lot more into the game mentally because it's such a big game.
But that being said, the offense is kind of, um that is gonna be the biggest question for them.
That's been the biggest question for them over the last couple of seasons.
Is can the offense, you know, come along and how the defense, Because that defense has been good for.
You know, since then, it's been their e mean.
They turn the corner.
They have a lot of talent along the defensive line.
They have obviously one of the best cornerbacks, um, in the league and traders White.
So you're looking at what they have there, and this is a team that can contend in the A F.
I don't think they're there to be a riel serious threat, you know, to be a Super Bowl contender.
But I definitely see them, Um, you know, being someone who is going to be challenging over the next few seasons in terms of this year, I mean, I just I still have way too many questions that center around the offense.
And can it be it doesn't have to be explosive, but it just needs to be, you know, has the stability there. It has to be consistent.
Are you buying that? And there's a lot of people that did.
But I think things air changing a little bit.
Are you buying that? They're the favorites for the A F C East, Or are you still waiting to see if they can beat the Patriots? I think they are the favorites in the in the FCS, and I think it's I think the addition of Stefon Diggs puts them over.
Um, you know, puts him over the edge for me, at least where because now you have that regular threat and you're you're seeing it now where Digs is, you know, he's playing well.
It's been a quietly playing well, but, you know, he's still producing.
And they have that now on offense where they have that threat.
So I think, you know, in the long run that yeah, I think this season they are better because off beam or I guess, um I guess the more explosive offense versus what you have in the Patriots braiding you there.
How you doing? Okay.
Well, yeah, Okay.
Well, we only have just a couple minutes here, so I I just want to get your guys picks for the game.
I do have the Chiefs winning this game.
I do have the Chiefs winning this game because I think it's gonna be good.
I think it's gonna be a lower scoring game than some would expect cause I do think that the Bills defense is really good.
And we have seen, you know, you know, like Brandon said relative to what you know, we've come toe to expect from the Chiefs offense.
We've We've seen ah, fairly tempered, uh, Chiefs offensive unit the last several weeks.
So I think it's gonna be a low scoring game.
But I do think the Chiefs when this What do you got, Brandon? Yeah, I'm actually gonna say higher scoring game.
I think I said 38 31 Chiefs.
I just think right now, um, even though Buffalo secondary could be pretty good, they're struggling to create pressure.
So I think that's gonna be something that could hinder them in this game.
Especially late if if their offense is maybe struggling as much as they did against Tennessee, Um, on those crucial plays, you gotta score, right? Um, yeah.
I'm kind of in the mindset that it's gonna be a little more of a high scoring game.
I think it's gonna be in in the upper twenties.
So I'm actually going with the Chiefs 31 to 27.
Since I did say lower scoring, I'll go.
Chiefs 21 Bills 17.
Like I said, I think this is gonna be a testament to the Bills defense.
More than anything, we'll see.
We'll see how it goes.
But thanks, guys, for joining us.
I know Ryan. I know Brandon.
Appreciate it. I braided we lost his face.
