way Talk. Indianapolis Colts football.
00:00:03
We're gonna stick to what we know.
00:00:05
Fundamentals and techniques.
00:00:06
1% better every day.
00:00:16
Hello, I'm or so on.
00:00:18
And welcome to today's Week five Wednesday film room on the Indianapolis Colts.
00:00:25
And today we got to go over something that really needs addressed.
00:00:30
Okay, The Internet was called offensive line.
00:00:33
Looked God awful against the past with the pass rush of the Cleveland Browns.
00:00:39
And we want to know what the heck happened there, right? Colts fans, NFL fans, Colts are supposed to have a top five offensive line.
00:00:48
How in the world that the Browns get so much pressure hits and sacks on Philip Rivers on this game? Well, I'm gonna tell you what it is.
00:01:02
Flat outlaw rave in Clark, the backup left tackle, the guy who was drafted a few years back.
00:01:09
They kept them around.
00:01:10
They said they loved this size, his length, everything about him.
00:01:15
But he wasn't very good.
00:01:16
They're saying that he was better over this past training camp, and that's why they kept it in their playing him.
00:01:23
But the film doesn't lie.
00:01:25
The film does not lie, and this film room is mainly about how badly law Raven Clark played and why The Indianapolis Colts, for sure, absolutely without any question, need to go out and get themselves another tackle.
00:01:44
That could play either left or right, a backup swing tackle in case another person goes down.
00:01:50
Because who knows if Anthony Castonzo will be here at the end of the season? Or if he or Brayden Smith will be healthy for the full season? Because, I mean, there's still 11 games to play, plus the playoffs. Possibly.
00:02:05
We need a good backup, and that's all there is to it.
00:02:09
And Law, Raven Clark is not that guy.
00:02:12
I mean, he is not that guy.
00:02:14
And, you know, let's let's quit jibber jabber about this.
00:02:19
I'll tell you what.

00:02:32
Let's get to it.
00:02:33
Shall we? First drive of the game for the Indianapolis Colts against the Browns.
00:02:39
Sixth play of the drive.
00:02:42
Myles Garrett here has been kind of testing right in front of the him.
00:02:46
Heinz is low.
00:02:47
Raven Clark, the backup left tackle, came in for Anthony Castonzo in this game because Anthony Castonzo had an injury.
00:02:54
I was afraid of this matchup all week, and it came to fruition.
00:03:01
Low.
00:03:02
Raven Clark is not a very good tackle, especially left tackle, and Myles Garrett has been playing out of his mind the first quarter of the 2020 season.
00:03:12
And in this play, I am really ticked off about some things, and first thing I'm gonna do is I'm gonna I'm gonna play this through and then you can watch.
00:03:19
But he's been his first five plays of the game.
00:03:22
He's been testing law. Raven Clark.
00:03:24
He's been running a lot of outside pass rush speed rushes.
00:03:27
He's ran a couple inside, and one time he tried to swim. Move.
00:03:32
Let's watch this one.
00:03:41
Oh, what? Oh, man.
00:03:45
All right, so let's go back.
00:03:49
First off, what we need to do is realized Clark has Jack Doyle out here.
00:03:56
We also have Zach Paschal, who is a very good blocking wide receiver.
00:04:02
Now, the best person to block on this play at this point could be Paschal, but that's for for Chip.
00:04:15
That's if he tries to go outside passable.
00:04:17
Just take a step in chip and then go out.
00:04:20
But you really don't want that when you're inside the red zone, right? So But, Doyle, it's not a smart move for Doyle to come out and try toe Freehand one on one block because of the how How far out Garrett is right here.
00:04:40
You do not want Doyle getting this block on.
00:04:43
Now what Doyle could do, There's nothing really go out for us.
00:04:46
Go out for his route at this point.
00:04:49
He could try to chip in before he goes out, but I don't know how good that how effective that would be.
00:04:56
Let's find out what I'm really ticked off about on this play is Howl a rave in Clark just doesn't finish.
00:05:05
I mean, he just does not finish on this play when you got guys.
00:05:12
Now watch.
00:05:13
Clark steps out, does a good job initially, good footwork, steps out, gets on there, pushes him out on the edge.
00:05:21
And then at this point, right here, the bend on Myles Garrett iss.
00:05:25
So ridiculous.
00:05:26
Look at that.
00:05:27
I don't know how in the world he got that low.
00:05:29
Lett's step this back.
00:05:31
Just a hair, right. Look at this.
00:05:33
Look, at that, Then he gets up.
00:05:38
Now, at this point, look at this point.
00:05:44
He gives up his arms, air off of him.
00:05:47
He gives up on him.
00:05:48
At this point, if this was Quinton Nelson or Ryan Kelly or Mark Lewinsky or Brayden Smith, this is where he would just bull rush right here with this body hands right in front of them and just basically lay on top of them.
00:06:05
This would be a pancake.
00:06:07
Alright, but he just completely just stops.
00:06:11
He just stops and gives up on the play.
00:06:15
Garrett able get back on the feet in no time and run down and sack him.
00:06:21
And next thing you know, Clark's like, oops.
00:06:22
And then he starts chasing him after he realizes, Oh, that was stupid.
00:06:28
But it's a little late, then.
00:06:29
That's a sack on your quarterback, homie, what's up with that? What is up with that? This is a play right here where I would have pulled the Raven Clark off of it right then and I would put my backup center at tackle at this point because that is a loaf.
00:06:46
If he was on that brief loses defense, he wouldn't mean being the rest of the game, all right, especially.
00:06:52
He needs a talking to at this point, because that is ridiculous.
00:06:57
Not only did he just give up, he should have finished him.
00:07:03
And that's the difference between a guy like a Raven Clark who should be a practice squad tackle and a starter like Anthony Castonzo or Ryan Kelly or Quinton Nelson.
00:07:16
This is awful.
00:07:18
I mean, completely, awful.
00:07:21
All right, so on this play, he doesn't get sacked.
00:07:25
This is the very next play, right after the sack that Garrett got off of Clark and I'm going to give this one this pressure slash hit that Myles Garrett gets on Rivers.
00:07:37
This was on rivers.
00:07:38
This is on Rivers.
00:07:39
He gets that pressure hit and forces rivers to throw the football in a bad position.
00:07:45
And it's because of Rivers.
00:07:46
Let's watch the play, and then I will explain why, All right, first off the throw in and of itself, he's ****ting through it.
00:08:04
Right there is.
00:08:06
The football corner has the position on the wide receiver.
00:08:09
This should have never happened.
00:08:10
This should have never He should have never had to have thrown that football, but he had to. He had to get rid of it quickly.
00:08:16
Why is that? Because of the pressure And the hit from Myles Garrett on Low Raven Clark.
00:08:21
And Myles Garrett does the exact same move that he did the previous play where he got the sack.
00:08:28
He just a speed rush around.
00:08:29
Clark gets both arms wrapped around rivers.
00:08:32
Why is this on rivers? Right here? This is why Jack boils over here now.
00:08:38
The play, right before he knew Clark has trouble.
00:08:42
One on one with Garrett.
00:08:44
He should have recognized that this is a zone coverage.
00:08:50
This is zone.
00:08:51
Yes, the linebackers up.
00:08:53
But you got three guys over here.
00:08:56
You got three guys and there's three guys out right here.
00:08:59
He could easily These three guys could easily block these three guys. No problem.
00:09:05
He should have moved oil over.
00:09:07
Doyle has a route going out to the end zone line and then cutting.
00:09:14
He could have easily moved him over here and flipped it and made him go this way.
00:09:18
But before he goes off and does that, he could have chipped Garrett to help.
00:09:22
Clark should have recognized this and called for the protection call for help with protection, but because he didn't he had nowhere near enough time to throw the ball when he needed or wanted to.
00:09:41
There's no way he should have thrown this football when he did, but he had to, because Garrett, like I said, is able to use the exact same play, get around forcing Rivers.
00:09:53
But look at that.
00:09:56
Garrett's got both arms wrapped around him as he released that football Rivers knew he was in trouble.
00:10:04
Had he had an extra second an extra second, not even a second, a split second quarter second.
00:10:11
He could have had enough time to recognize he's got a receiver crossing around the middle here.
00:10:16
He could have through this ball right over here, right here in the end zone, and he would have had a much better shot of catching it because he could have got that ball out in front of the receiver.
00:10:26
The receiver might have had a chance to catch this football without the the corner doing it without the corner of being able to make a play on it.
00:10:35
But no, because he did not adjust because he did not adjust the protection and moved Doyle over to help Clark knowing that Clark is just severely outmatched.
00:10:48
He gets pressured and hit as he throws the football.
00:10:53
I mean, granted, this is the pressure is because Clark is just God awful at his position and shouldn't even be on the field.
00:11:01
But River should recognize that and give him some help.
00:11:05
This play was just awful on both ends.
00:11:08
Um, first off, you got Garrett over here now, to be fair, braiding Smith, he handled a lot better against Myles Garrett than what Law Raven Clark did.
00:11:20
But even on this play, he gives up a little bit of pressure on Rivers from Myles Garrett.
00:11:27
But that's not what we're gonna look at.
00:11:29
All right? He does give up some pressure.
00:11:31
And it was it all came to down because he gave up too much ground early on angle.
00:11:38
Lewinsky wasn't able to get over there to help him.
00:11:40
But this is about Olivier Vernon versus Law. Raven Clark.
00:11:44
Alright.
00:11:45
Olivier Vernon has had a crappy year this year, Crappy until they came to the until they played against the Indianapolis Colts.
00:11:55
They play against Indianapolis Colts and then Olivier Vernon versus Law. Raven Clark.
00:12:01
It was like a matchup in heaven right beside Myles Garrett.
00:12:05
Now, Garrett could go up against the better guy and Olivier Burn.
00:12:08
They can keep Olivier burning over here against the worst left tackle in the NFL.
00:12:15
Watch how this play plays out.
00:12:16
It's awful.
00:12:20
What? Really? Rivers had to throw the check down really quick.
00:12:31
Now, if we watch, let's watch right here with Garrett first.
00:12:35
Okay, First things first.
00:12:37
Well, Garrett, Ryan Kelly does a good job recognizing, okay? There isn't anyone in front of him.
00:12:43
He's gonna go over here to this side and help marked Lewinsky, which should in turn, allow marked Lewinsky to get over here and help Brayden Smith.
00:12:55
But look at Garrett.
00:12:56
This is a speed.
00:12:57
This is That's a B a m f.
00:13:00
And I'm not gonna say what those stand for, but you should know that is B A M f coming right after, uh, Philip Rivers.
00:13:08
Right now, Kelly is gonna take on the tackle at this point.
00:13:15
This is where glue in ski needs to step back and help because he's under pressure.
00:13:19
Big time.
00:13:21
He's gonna end up giving up a little bit of pressure.
00:13:23
But look over here with Olivier Vernon and Clark.
00:13:27
Clark is beaten so badly right now, it's not even funny.
00:13:32
It's not even funny.
00:13:35
Bam! Done.
00:13:39
He had to dump that football off.
00:13:43
The whole side went to the right side.
00:13:47
The blocking Kelly took Glinski Golinski should have been able to backpedal on help a little bit, but he wasn't able to because Smith gave up too much on that pass rush.
00:13:57
But that speed rush, that speed rush because of what happened he got in early.
00:14:06
Look at that.
00:14:07
Look, look, I mean, that Clark should have been able to push him out to about here to allow Rivers to step up to throw this football.
00:14:16
But he didn't.
00:14:18
He got He got the edge on Clark way too early, Olivier Vernon did, and was able to just make a beeline straight for him.
00:14:30
It's just bad, just that all the way around the Browns defensive ends because they were able to put Garrett over on Smith because Olivier Vernon was able to do whatever he wanted against law Raven Clark.
00:14:45
That meant they were able to get pressure on both ends rather than just one, and that just makes things that makes life that much more difficult for Rivers.
00:14:56
Makes rivers have to throw the football way too early and not be able to do anything.
00:15:02
Rivers got demolished, this game demolished, and it wasn't just because of Gary.
00:15:09
It was Olivier Vernon on carcass.
00:15:10
Well, all right, sometimes on the pressure, when you get pressure a ton on a quarterback too fast, it blows up place that completely blows up to play.
00:15:22
It makes the quarterback throw the football when he's not even ready to throw the football like normal, right? But how about throwing it? I mean, completely obliterating a play that's obvious.
00:15:35
Let's watch this and see what happens.
00:15:41
What's my also right here all over Clark? He has.
00:15:45
So the football froze it to back shoulder for T. Y.
00:15:49
T.
00:15:50
Y is not quite ready for it.
00:15:51
There's a reason why he wasn't quite ready for it because the ball wasn't supposed to go to him.
00:15:56
Let's go back here.
00:15:58
You got the running back coming around the side.
00:16:00
This is a running back screenplay.
00:16:03
Alright.
00:16:04
Rivers is looking this way for one reason, only to keep the safeties this way and the linebackers this way that way when he's able, you know, wants to play develops, he could turn and throw to his running back.
00:16:18
But in order to do that, he needs a moment.
00:16:22
A moment, to be able to keep them over there, to get the running back out over here.
00:16:28
So that the running backs ready, But he doesn't have time.
00:16:31
Why Seat? Look, now he's gonna look this way to try to draw when he looked that way.
00:16:39
Hold on.
00:16:41
He looks back this way.
00:16:42
And these two guys, all three of these guys have to stop and respect him going that way.
00:16:49
See how they stop? They stopped the look that because he's looking right at T Y.
00:16:55
Now he did that on purpose.
00:16:57
He's looking the safeties in the linebackers off.
00:17:00
Make them think that way.
00:17:01
They're not all coming over here to help.
00:17:03
What they don't realize is this is blocking right here, getting set up.
00:17:08
Now, at this point, this is where Rivers is supposed to turn back to the running back and throwing the football.
00:17:15
But when he looks over here, t y he sees something else, he sees Garrett beating the snot out of the raven Clark.
00:17:22
He ain't gonna have time to turn around and throw this football.
00:17:24
He has to get rid of it.
00:17:26
Now.
00:17:27
He has to get rid of this football now.
00:17:29
So he does.
00:17:30
He throws the back shoulder to t y.
00:17:33
Had he had a quarter second to throw the football toe where he's supposed to throw it.
00:17:41
This is all blocked up.
00:17:44
All block up.
00:17:46
All right.
00:17:48
No problems.
00:17:49
You'd have had him blocking him out all the way out.
00:17:51
He'd have been pushing him out.
00:17:53
He would have blocked him off.
00:17:54
He would have blocked him off.
00:17:55
He could have through the football.
00:17:56
He'd have caught it.
00:17:57
He would have went since this guy would have been down here, he would have went around him and then behind the other two guys.
00:18:03
And the only guy that be able to make, uh, any kind of play on him would have been this strong safety.
00:18:11
But it would have been well past the first down marker.
00:18:13
And if the running back, you know, one on one strong safety versus running back, I'll take the running back every day.
00:18:19
Good possibility.
00:18:20
This could have been, you know.
00:18:21
Ah, 50 plus yard running, back screen touchdown.
00:18:24
But because of this right here, because Rivers doing the right thing and looking away from where the play is supposed to be happening to keep the linebacker and the safety is in check.
00:18:42
Because Miles had his break on him, Rivers had to throw the football immediate.
00:18:47
He don't have time.
00:18:48
He knows he don't have time to turn around through the football, to the running back.
00:18:52
He's got to get rid of it or it's a sack or ah, forced fumble.
00:18:56
He's got to get rid of the football.
00:19:00
That's what happens when you're left tackle.
00:19:04
If so, God awful that he doesn't give your quarterback not even two seconds to throw a running back screen.
00:19:13
I mean, come on.
00:19:16
Alright.
00:19:17
The last play I'm going to do about this offensive line and how bad law Raven Clark is.
00:19:20
First off, this is the safety.
00:19:22
Yes, this is the safety, and a lot of people say he should have threw the ball to Jonathan Taylor, right? He should have threw the ball of Jonathan Taylor at his feet that way, you know, it would have been a safety at least have been around someone you know.
00:19:34
That way it wouldn't have been intentional.
00:19:35
Grounding, blah, blah, blah.
00:19:37
No, he couldn't have done it.
00:19:38
Could not have done it at all.
00:19:41
Now, first off, let's watch this.
00:19:44
Very simple.
00:19:46
Doyle comes out here, Doyle, believe it or not, on this play is wide open.
00:19:49
But Rivers has absolutely no time to throw him the football on.
00:19:54
Recognize anything because of how bad Clark gets beat. Watch.
00:20:01
Ah, No way.
00:20:04
Now, technically, if he did through the ball out here, Clark would have had the football.
00:20:11
He could have threw the ball, but, I mean, my goodness. Look.
00:20:15
Look at this.
00:20:17
I mean, my goodness.
00:20:19
Now they're saying he should have through the football at his feet or at Taylor.
00:20:26
There's no way he could have There was people right in front of him.
00:20:29
Right here.
00:20:31
He picks the handoff, he steps back.
00:20:33
He has no time at all.
00:20:36
Here's Taylor.
00:20:38
Here's your blocks.
00:20:40
Here he is.
00:20:41
He sees him getting ready to come upon him.
00:20:46
How is he gonna throw that football at him when you got a whole line? Ah, whole line of people.
00:20:56
There's There's five huge bodies in the way.
00:21:01
There's no way he could have through the football to him.
00:21:04
Hey, couldn't have just lofted it over the top, because hello, that's an interception touchdown.
00:21:11
He did the right thing by getting rid of the football and he was looking in that direction.
00:21:20
How do you give it a moment? Had he had a moment? He doesn't have a moment right now. He's got to get rid of football.
00:21:25
Had he had a half a second longer, Mohali Cox was open.
00:21:31
He could have got him.
00:21:32
The football morality would have caught the ball and probably picked up a few yards if he had a moment longer.
00:21:38
I mean, Jack Doyle.
00:21:41
Oh, my goodness.
00:21:42
It would have been a huge plague of Jack Doyle either way, but he couldn't.
00:21:48
He had no time to make the decision.
00:21:51
Too many bodies in the way for him to throw to Jonathan Taylor at all.
00:21:56
Too many.
00:21:59
If he had thrown it behind him, the rest would have called safety anyhow, because it was not because the running back wasn't even looking for it.
00:22:08
You don't throw it.
00:22:09
You have to throw the football beyond.
00:22:14
Beyond the line of scrimmage.
00:22:21
There's nowhere for him to throw it at Taylor's feet beyond the line of scrimmage for Rivers to throw it to.
00:22:29
And he's just service that couldn't throw it over because that's an interception touchdown.
00:22:34
Like I said.
00:22:36
So everyone saying that he should have threw the ball to Jonathan Taylor's feet.
00:22:39
It would have been a safety anyhow.
00:22:42
That's why Rivers did what he did.
00:22:46
This was all because simple fact law.
00:22:50
Raven Clark is just that bad at plane tackle.
00:22:57
He got beat way, way too much.
00:23:00
I would have taken him out at halftime at least half time, but he didn't.
00:23:12
I think that's on coaching.
00:23:14
If you if you got attack, put in someone put in Pinter, I don't care. Put in anybody.
00:23:21
Like I said, I have put in the back up center to play for him at that point because Clark was doing an awful job, awful job, or at least keep a tied in there toe help something.
00:23:38
But they left him too much, one on one against the hottest defense.
00:23:45
It then right now in the NFL and Myles Garrett, you cannot do that.
00:23:53
The passing was not good in this game because Rivers didn't have time to allow plays to develop, even running back screens.
00:24:03
He didn't have enough time to get toe.
00:24:05
Let those develop.
00:24:06
That's bad.
00:24:11
And that tells you that our depth at tackle, whether it be left tackle or right tackle, is bad.
00:24:18
We need to find someone right now.
00:24:21
This week.
00:24:22
The Colts need to bring some people in, work him out for the tackle position as a backup tackle and just let Clark go.
00:24:30
We've had Clark far too long now.
00:24:34
It's been over. It's been over three years.
00:24:37
Clark has not improved.
00:24:38
He's still God awful.
00:24:40
Ludlow Raven, Clark, walk, bring in.
00:24:43
Somebody works, um, people out.
00:24:45
I don't know what they're doing it right now at this point, uh, this week.
00:24:49
But God, please do it.
00:24:52
Please, I don't care.
00:24:53
Sign someone off someone's practice squad.
00:24:55
I don't care.
00:24:57
Get somebody else.
00:24:59
I hope.
00:25:00
And pray.
00:25:03
The Anthony Castonzo and Brayden Smith stays healthy the rest of the season, and the Anthony Castonzo can play this week against the Bengals because this is just absolutely terrible.
00:25:15
And that's my breakdown of what happened in the Browns game and why the Colts weren't able to move the ball as efficiently as we figured that they would be able to against this. Brown's defense.
00:25:28
Just too much pressure.
00:25:30
Way, way too much pressure.
00:25:35
Thank you for watching.
00:25:38
And I still don't understand why they had five people, five people going out on a wide receiver on receiving route, knowing that they are right there on their own end zone, with Myles Garrett and Low Raven Clark having issues.
00:25:54
So why didn't they have one of their tight ends or running backs? They're helping.
00:25:59
Rather than just leaving at one on one with the Raven Clark, it just seems stupid to me.
00:26:05
The good news is that Anthony Castonzo was back at practice so Clark will not be on the field, hopefully, this week against the Bengals, and as long as the starting five is out there, I have 100% faith in this offensive line, even against the upcoming Ravens or Steelers, as long as the starting five is out there.
00:26:32
But depth at the tackle position is a very scary proposition going on for the rest of the season.
00:26:39
I do not like that at all, and I hope the that Chris Ballard does something about that and soon otherwise the culture are in for a big time.
00:26:51
Amount of trouble.

00:02:29
Feel free to do so.
00:26:52
So I wanna thank everybody that joined me here on SportsCastr as I broke out my Week five film room.
