Hello, Lakers nation.
Welcome in my name's Trevor Lane for Lakers nation dot com, and this is the Lakers Nation postgame show your Lakers.
Well, they just picked up a win over the Brooklyn Nets to move to 12 and oh, in back to back.
So who would have thought that the Lakers, a veteran team like this, would be 12? No, in back to back sets.
Pretty impressive stuff.
It wasn't a complete dominant win until the end of the game.
We're gonna break it all down.
We'll talk all about it.
But first quick reminder, guys, make sure you're following Lakers nation on social media as we're getting closer and closer to the trade deadline.
Tons of break down there.

In fact, I just did one last night, all about how Robert Covington would fit with the Lakers and what they might have to give up in order to get him Because that's the latest rumor regarding the Lakers trade efforts.
So a lot going on there.
Make sure you guys go check that out.
Joining me tonight is jazz.
Can follow him on Twitter and Instagram at Jazz King 21 Jazz.
How you doing, man? Good.
That was It was a pretty fun game to watch.
I mean, it was a lot better than what we saw.
More exciting that way for me, you know, just the way the Lakers kind of decided.
I almost think they made a point of it to clamp down defensively.
You know, it felt good to watch them kind of say, All right, you know what were the better team here? We're gonna impose our will, and we're gonna take over and put this game away with something that didn't really do yesterday against the Knicks until really late in the fourth quarter.
So good to see them.
But I do have one question for you while you were watching that.
What the hell is wrong with Kyrie? Irving? Just in general, as a teammate, as everything.
I just don't like his attitude the way he wasn't LeBron Don't know if he saw that clip to and it's like, Dude, why do you have so much? Why do you have so much wrong with so much hostility and anger inside you? I don't know.
Yes, you told me that you've got dinner reservations tonight.
You've only got 35 minutes for tonight's show way.
Don't have enough time wasted here for two hours.
Talk about are grinding our years here.
The I don't think the Earth is not flat like that's I think that's like we start there.
Yes, he's had these comments during teammates under the bus and all that kind of stuff.
But, um, look, I don't know.
I don't know exactly what it is with with Kyrie.
Some of the things that he says are kind of tone deaf.
He's a different dude.
He's a good basketball player.
He's a different guy.
And you know what? You see quotes like that stuff.
You got to be kind of maybe a little bit relieved that he didn't wind up as a Los Angeles Laker.
I know that was a rumor heading into into the summer last year that he was going to maybe jump the Lakers and reunite with LeBron You know, I'm not.
Look, I'm not staying awake at night wondering what could have been if Kyrie had been a Laker.
Because, uh, yeah, he does. He does some odd things.
He's a in the weeds.
A great basketball player might.
I'm not taking any credit away from him like that, but, I mean, as a teammate, a someone you'd want in your corner, He just irritates me.
Then he just perennially unhappy.
So I'm always I'm always I was a little bit of joy.
When the Lakers are able to kick the crap out of that thing, he's on the other side of it.
And it's good because him and Katie, the two biggest malcontents in the n b a consent there and play with each other next year. So it'll be good.
Yeah, they're going to be on the same team and, well, you know what? Like they were already know they're going to try to get rid of everybody.
Because Kyra has already said that the guys that they have are simply not good enough.
Play to 15 Doing fine.
Nothing to worry about Brooklyn. Always good.
But anyway, the Lakers beat the Nets, 1 28 2113 You know, to start the game I was.
I don't want to say worried, but we had seen it before.
That was the way the game started, out with the Nets, getting into the paint and then kicking out to open shooters consistently and then knocking out a high, knocking down a high percentage of their threes.
Both times the Lakers played the Nets in the preseason.
I went, Oh, no, We have seen this movie before and it does not end well.
The Lakers got lit up by the Nets both times.
They played him in pre season.
It wasn't pretty, and a lot of that was, you know, LeBron didn't play much in preseason and all of that.
But still, the Nets kind of had a formula that worked against the Lakers, and we saw a little bit more of that tonight.
Until the second half.
It was like suddenly and it was more towards the end of the third quarter, like suddenly, the Lakers and LeBron specifically just went No, that's it.
We're done We're flipping the switch and you guys are out here.
They went on a 24 to 2 run in the fourth quarter.
I mean, that's incredible stuff.
Like, how is that even possible? That the Nets can look so good for so long? And then the Lakers, just like we're just playing possum or what? What is happening here? Well, he here's the thing.
I mean, I was watching the game, too, and we were texting about history during the first half.
The Nets thrive off, especially when the Lakers and the preseason again, It's East Coast Eastern Conference team.
So you don't see them more than twice in the season, right? They do.
They do kind of pose a a good threat in terms of how you can try to beat the Lakers.
It sustainable through 48 minutes.
I don't I don't know.
We're trying to run your trying to run up and down the court because Brooklyn averages 12 Fast boy, fast break points a game, this 1 38 tonight.
And so they were.
They were really looking at pushing the pace and trying to get out and run against the Lakers.
You mentioned this off of getting the defensive rebounds.
It was boom, catch it, pass it and go.
And there that's what they were looking for right away.
And then when they when they got into, uh, half court, I didn't like the fact that in the first half the Lakers were way over committing, helping on the penetrator.
Whoever's coming to the and so that was leaving those guys we talked about this Brooklyn has a bunch of guys who can hit threes.
You know what I mean? And they had a hard time.
And then once, and it was, I think it was partly Frank Vogel's adjustments.
I also think it was partially the guy started getting locked in and whether LeBron kind of, you know, let that or not, they were like, Dude, what are we doing? You know what I mean? Like for me? Like I said that many times earlier in the game, What are they doing right, like, you don't have to help that much, make those guys get shots over.
Obviously, Kyrie Irving is great at finishing at the hoop, but make some of those other guys finished over.
Dwight Howard finished over Anthony Davis and once the Lakers started staying at home a little bit and then they were using their offense is a good defense, too, in the sense that they were saying, Let's slow the game down, give it to a D in the post, give it to LeBron in the post.
If they come to double, we can kick it around and swinging around to get an open look.
And I thought that they just decided to control the pace of the game.
And as soon as they did that, this game was a blowout, right? Yeah, that's exactly what happened.
That was that was my ****ysis as well on.
And I was thinking during the game, You know, the Lakers have this tendency and we've been talking about it all season.
Toe over, help into the paint where they get too many guards dropping into the pain to try to help out against the drive, and then they wind up giving of open threes.
If it's May, I would rather see Kyrie or Spencer Dinwiddie or cares Laverne shooting over Dwight Howard or Anthony Davis from five feet.
I'd rather give up that opportunity than Joe Harris wide open right? Or or or even Wilson, Chandler or somebody like that wide open behind the arc.
I think that you're better off in the long term, making those guards shoot over your bigs, and you have to trust those bigs to go up there and do what they're supposed to do and the like.
You know, again, I don't think it's a bad thing that they're over helping, necessarily.
It's that mentality that, you know, we're always gonna protect our teammates and all that sort of thing, like like there's a positive side to it.
But it's something the Lakers have to be aware of and something that teams have used against them.
And the Nets did agree to their credit.
Did a great job exploiting that weakness of the Lakers tonight until the Lakers finally said, Okay, we're gonna put in the extra effort, we're gonna rotate hard.
We're not gonna let you do one or two passes in a shot.
We're gonna make you try to sling 45 passes because we're gonna be closing out so hard to the basketball.
And that made all the difference.
Yeah, you know what I think? Part of what you're saying? Is that over helping? I don't even think that that's game plan.
I just think it's instinctual.
I mean, that's what you're taught from A young age is okay, You know what? Protect the paint and making sure that you're basically your hand is on.
You can touch you, touch your man, but you're also you're you're aware of what's going on at the hoop.
And so when they were when they were coming over help and they've done it all season and it's not a bad thing.
It's actually good defensive habit to make sure you're protecting the painful when you're playing against a team my Brooklyn, where they're all about trying to hit threes and and basically playing the the spacing offense and trying to lower you into that assumes that kind of I mean, I think they knew that coming into the game.
But soon as it may be a conscious effort to be like boys, what are we doing? You know what I mean? Let's try and focus on you guys are killing us from the three point line.
Let's just stay focused on on staying with your man and make those guys score over 80 and white guys were beast down low in terms of protecting the rim, and once they were able to switch to that, we saw what happened in one of the 24 to 2 run and it's lights out game over and that run was was brilliant.
Have got a great staff, the throat.
You're here just from YouTube, Cam Gil said, looking at plus minus.
LeBron had a game high 20 plus 26.
Kyrie had the game below, minus 26.
Thank you, that's what we like to see.
Oh, you like to see everything being on the lower end of that kind of stuff.
You know why I come here? I said this before.
He's awesome. He's an awesome.
That's what player.
I just don't like the way he carries himself.
I don't like his attitude.
I mean, very entering was never here and LeBron James might do it behind closed doors.
I think he didn't do that in Cleveland and spare shirt might have been that last season with the Lakers, where he's like these guys can't play, they're not good.
But to do it publicly the way Kyrie Irving doesn't always sulking and this.
It just irritates me.
Postgame show like Not that it's not that I was, you know, I wasn't upset over this at all because it happened to the Celtics, Mukai re told the crowd in Boston.
I'm sticking around right in in October and by March he wanted out, huh? You just you know, he's, you know, he's a little bit all over the place.
Let's talk a little bit about about Dwight Howard.
So Javale McGee feeling a little bit sick, Dwight Howard steps into the starting lineup and, uh, and played pretty well.
I mean, only has still only had to play 23 minutes.
The Lakers played small quite a bit because, you know, the Nets were playing small, and so you ran a D as your as your center a little bit.
Anthony Davis actually played 27 minutes, by the way, so Lakers went super small a bit there, But Dwight Howard, seven of 10 shooting 12 boards, two steals, one block, 14 points.
I mean over three from the free throw line, but that's that's Dwight Howard, right? So that's solid production from a big like how many teams can lose their starting center and be like up next guy up.
All right, we're still good.
Well, the team that had Siamese twins running their center rotation like we do with joy, like your way got those two going together.
I love what what Dwight Howard brings.
Um, you know, we met and you remember early in the season where Dwight had a few of those really, really big games and we were like, And do you sort do you start Dwight over over JaVale or because Dwight, to me, is more consistent than development.
Yet only there's any any question about that for the Lakers.
But, um, you know, the way he performs in the way he played, I just think it was for him reshaping his body was big because I don't think he looks as lethargic as he didn't actually looks like he bought that.
He's not the 28 year old Dwight Howard anymore than he's ever been out of.
He's always been pretty, always in shape.
But I'm just being lean and not sharing all that bulk on him, too.
I mean, he was still Jack, you know what I mean.
But, um, on I just think his mindset has been, man, what do you need me to do? I'm gonna go out there and have fun.
I still have the athletic ability to control and dominate the paint anytime.
I really feel like it.
So for me, I would just impressed with how he fit into the offense.
He doesn't need that ball the post up.
He's happy getting offensive rebounds and going back up.
He's happy catching lobs and doing that, and he's happy protecting the rim.
So I think Dwight Howard, other than maybe LeBron would, would be my second choice for player of the game today.
Yeah, I have to agree with that.
I think that he is.
Ah, he is certainly right there for a player of the game.
Now, this is a guy who, uh I mean, look, he's he's kind of come full circle now.
And how about this story that I mean now that he's finally a fan favorite again that Dwight was not asked to be in the dunk contest? Dwight asked to be in the dunk contest like the didn't approach Dwight Dwight approached the N B A and said, Look, I want to be in the dunk contest I like.
How great is that? How many guys are turning down opportunities to do stuff like that? No.
I want to go on vacation.
No one want to go to this Dwight's like, Look, I don't have much, much time left in these legs.
If you want to see me, don't This is the year.
I love it, I love it.
I'm not expecting to win the dunk contest or anything like that.
My gosh, like it's gonna be great to see him in there.
And if he could somehow talk Kobe Kobe Bryant into coming out there with them, It's gonna be a memorable moment, that's for sure.
You know what men you know.
We're talking about this, too, and it's such a It's a cliche thing, right? I mean, whether it comes for your job, your career, your relationship, whatever did people you hear the term? Oh, people have to rediscover their love for what they're doing to me.
I just think that's a sign that that Dwight Howard has rediscovered loving basketball and that that's what I was trying to say, and maybe it's just his mindset.
How he's been on the team is energy on the bench.
He's always jumping up and down and he's into it, dancing and high fiving people and enjoying the moment.
And I think the fact that he wanted to be a part of the dunk contest, the fact that he wanted to do and the fact that he's actually gonna shoot his shot with Kobe, you know what I mean? Like, he's a guy at a club trying to pick up a woman or something is actually the most impressive part about all this and the guy he's trying.
He's trying to pick up Kobe Bryant.
That's like That's not gonna be easy for him, right? Yeah, he's Yeah, he's aiming high there, but if he can get it done, that would be It's gonna be epic if you can figure out a way to make that make that happen.
Guys, we've got all kinds of questions and comments coming in here, and I'm definitely gonna be getting into them.
Um, a lot of people are talking about Ah, Jared Dudley.
Okay, Chair Dudley here.
Ah, eso Tina Ji min said w had a good game played good defense on, and that's just one of many, many Jared Dudley comments.
He's got the old man y M c a game, and it's hard not to root for him because I feel like like Jared Dudley is all of us in a way like he is, he's tremendous.
Any and you've got to get excited like he hit that three at the buzzer at the end of the third quarter when it looked like the Nets might still make a push and Jared Dudley knocks it and puts the Lakers up. 10.
He's had a good performance whenever he comes in off the bench, and he doesn't care if he only plays once every five games or whatever.
I'd like what we've seen out of the guy.
You know what, man? It's funny because when you hit that three off and let's get kudos to rage on Rondo cause you did it.
But you know, I played there to get that steel and throw the perfect pass to doubly for him to be able to hit that buzzer beating three.
When he hit that I've jumped up just Oh, you know what I mean? Like it's Jared Dudley and the way I look at it with W's Like you mentioned, he is.
He's almost like in every man who's playing in the N B A and get to do this for a season.
It's like we're all kind of enjoying it, but you're right.
When has he played bad? When he's got minutes, does that mean you want to see him out there every game for 20 minutes tonight? Probably not.
But when he's got, when he's getting out there and getting this time, he's contributed.
And to me, I think that really encapsulates the Lakersbench you had as a whole is.
You might have Jared Dudley do good.
One game out of seven.
You might have Troy Daniels come in and shoot the lights out.
One game at a seven.
You might have Quinn Cook will offer 15 points one game out of 15.
We don't know, but I think that's kind of the hard part.
To figure out how to gain find against the Lakers is You don't have to sit there and say, Oh, we gotta We gotta focus on stopping, stopping Kyle Kuzma because he's their only score off the bench because Troy Daniels, not committing hit some shots KCP has been pretty **** good offensively, and and they've always had these weird moment.
So to me, I think Dudley kind of perfectly encapsulate what the Lakers are, which is we have LeBron James.
We have Anthony Davis and we don't know who the hell else is going to be able to contribute today.
But when they do, But it's gonna be somebody right? 36 at night.
It's gonna be someone way.
Don't know, wannabe.
You know what? You want to talk about KCP and I'm actually digging into his stats right now because I want to get his updated numbers.
But before we get to that, LeBron James LeBron is he had a tremendous game tonight.
I thought he turned it up defensively, and that led the way for the Lakers.
Finished with a triple double, 27 points, 12 boards, 10 assists, one steal one Block did have the five turnovers, but three of six from from deep tremendous performance.
And there's a pretty good chance that next game against the 76 years in Philly, Kobe's home down, he's gonna pass Kobe Bryant on the all time scoring list.
We we did the math so There's no guarantee this is 100% right.
But you and I did the math before we came on.
And he said he needs what? 17 more points and ordered last.
Uh, what are your thoughts on Tycho Brahe? Tycho? Yes, that's right. 17 18.
What are your thoughts on that on LeBron passing Kobe Bryant in? I think it's I think it's great.
Gets happing. Well, he's in the Lakers. Uniformed.
Trying to pass will be one of the if not the greatest Laker of all time, depending on who you talk to.
So for me, I mean, it's just gonna be cool to see and LeBron James resurgence because I don't want to say he fell off a cliff last year.
It was just a weird We have never seen that from abroad, you know? And it had a lot of people questioning is he is he is.
He had a shape does not have the love for the game.
Is he more about the movies? And you know, is he washed and he was in the wash King That has taken all that.
But for me, I think this is Ah, perfect Cherry on top for him to be able to do this in this season of his resurgence and doing it to pass Kobe Bryant a Laker legend, too.
So I'm looking for I mean, I'm assuming there's a chance he may be able to beat that in the second by this, by the time that we're midway through the second quarter on Saturday, so it'll be fun to see.
What about you? You know, I think it's a It's a big accomplishment and there's always been this kind of like LeBron versus Kobe.
Debate right within Lakers within Lakers Nation There's been some Lakers fans that weren't happy that LeBron came, and that has kind of, I mean, it hasn't completely deceived anybody.
Still unhappy is no.
I think that there are still some.
There are still some failing out there, and I hear from them.
I see him on Twitter and see him on Facebook that aren't having it.
LeBron Are they the Kyrie Irving's of the man? Is that what we're talking about? Maybe they think you're I don't know, but there was that that certain look, there was a long history of LeBron on versus Kobe, even though they didn't meet up, depend ahead in the N B A finals or anything like that.
There's, you know, there's this debate over which one's the better player and, of course, Lakers fans.
They're gonna you know they're going to entrench themselves on the court will decide, and so that I don't think M.
J took it like that for me.
I think it's a celebration of us being of our age in our era.
Getting to celebrate, watching one of the greatest of all time do this.
So I think this is just another feather under his cap.
Get being able to be there and added the office.
The opportunity to pass a legend like that's a great point.
You have to take these moments and join them right like it's like the so few play pairs of this caliber ever come along and when they're gone, they're gone.
That's that's not coming back and so you have to take this moment and enjoy it and not get wrapped up in the and the always Kobe better is LeBron, but like it's fine.
You could debate that stuff, but you don't want to blind yourself to how good a player really is at the point where you don't enjoy it.
You don't enjoy seeing them, then play.
I mean, look, I wish I wish that for a day Magic Johnson could could somehow be magically transport it magically transported back to being.
It's a big 27 Jen and see him fly up and down the floor and all the things that he did.
And I have to go back and look at old tape and all that kind of stuff.
You got to take these moments and enjoy them because they are so, uh, so few and far between that, you see an athlete come along like this.
So look, I want to talk about contagious Call the pope as well, and I know that's an awkward transition.
But, uh, KCP was Benjamin.
I think he's been the most consistent score off the bench for the Lakers, and I want to get into how good he is from the corners, and I just pulled up the stat from the corners.
He is shooting from one corner from the left corner.
He's shooting 45% from three and from the other corner, shooting 54% from three this guy has been absolutely deadly and he has become such a big part of the Lakers attack.
You see LeBron James looking for any time he pops free in those corners.
LeBron is gunning the ball to KCP, knowing that there's a pretty darn good shot that they're going to get a three out of it.
He has been absolutely tremendous.
We saw more of that tonight.
We saw him hitting big shots for them.
Uh, look, this is this is amazing.
And I think it's something that we're not talking enough about is how good KCP has been, especially after how bad he was those 1st 3 or four games.
Well, I've been talking about how good KCP has been all season.
If you remember, way have the tapes here, man.
You know what I think? I think for KCP And when we talked about a little bit about this during that during the game today is what we're going back and forth.
I think it has to do with finding your role and finding kind of your purpose on a team.
And I think when we're watching KCP, you know, in the beginning, whatever it was, it's an adjustment of being having to get used.
Okay, now we're first replete with Monster Ball.
Um you know, uh, call comes LeBron James.
Hey, Didn't really know where you fit in at the end of the year.
Last year when those guys were all out, he was like, Screw it.
I'm gonna I'm gonna take your money shots again.
Now you have Anthony Davis coming in.
It's a whole new system.
It's a whole new regime in terms of coaching.
And I think for me, the good part about Casey.
He's found his spot.
He's found his world.
He's not looking for the ball in places.
He's not going to be successful like you mentioned.
So he'll find himself in the corner now, knowing that, Hey, I'm gonna catch that ball, assumes LeBron start penetrating and my guy goes to help.
I'm gonna be there in the right spot to be able to catch it.
I think for meeting you're going to start to Seymour.
Guys get more comfortable, But people have to realize this is only game 45.
This is this is a game, you know, 65 were like this is you know, the Lakers are what they are.
They're still figuring things out and they're gonna get better.
And we talked a lot about this early in the season is that the chemistry is going to start looking a whole lot sharper as we get later into the year.
And now we're starting to do that.
We just past the midway point.
So for me, for a guy like KCP for a guy like Avery Bradley for a guy like Alex Caruso for, you know those guys as soon as they get more comfortable and now they know what the expectations are not only set for them by the coaching staff by their fellow players, I think that's what we're seeing.
The result of white kcp has been so good now, yeah, absolutely.
Kcp He's He is fitting in perfectly, and I think he's been like everybody complain.
In fact, I've got a question here from Michael Comment from Michael on Facebook.
I'm happy to be wrong about KCP.
I was always wondering, why is he still in a Lakers uniform? A lot of people thought that in Edwin Villanueva from Facebook, says no more KCP haters.
Yeah, there's nothing to hate on At this point, people were upset.
They kcp got that $8 million contract.
Now he looks like a bargain.
In fact, now you are gonna be thinking, Oh, my gosh, I hope he doesn't opt out of his contract this year because he's been that good and that important for their team.
And, uh, it's a look credit to him for sticking with it and a credit to the Lakers for figure out ways to use him and and allow him to thrive.
Yeah, I'm with you on that, man.
I think that he, you know, again, I bashed him a lot because he looked like a deer in the headlights, really in this season.
And he was shooting the ball when you should have passed it.
And then he was passing it when you should have shot it.
Now it's like he's not in the game.
Come to him a little bit more.
Dude, you don't have to create you.
Don't You don't have to do anything when you have LeBron James on your team.
Just be in the right spot, be open and your shots.
And that's what Casey is subscribing to.
Now is that mindset you saw a lot of guys make money off that in Cleveland, where they're not very great basketball player in terms of bacon slash and Korean do everything.
They were like, Do my job, Mr Stand here, be open, play good defense and hit open shots when I'm asked you.
And I think that's why KCP is starting to look a lot better now.
Yes, yeah, I agree.
100% he's simplified it and it Sze paid big, big dividends.
And speaking of which, you know what we just talked about the guy that that you're known for, kind of ripping on in the beginning the season.
Now let's talk about my guy.
Let's talk about Russian Rondo because he was just asking here.
You're Why did Alex Caruso only play 10 minutes? A lot of that is because of Rondo, because Rhonda was so good tonight.
He had a good game.
Rhonda was actually I mean, that he had look, he had a few poor defensive rotations in the first half, but the second half he fixed things.
He had one where he made the right read us, probably remember the play, and he went flying across the lane he knew exactly where Brooklyn was trying to go with the ball, and he cut off the shot, actually jumped in the air and completely enveloped the shooter.
I want to say it was Wilson Chandler, but I could be, could be wrong there, made a tremendous play defensively and got the stop.
Rondo had a very, very nice game.
In fact, that under underhand flip past to Troy Daniels when they get when it was in garbage time was ridiculous.
Like not many people would even think to try that.
And Rondo did finish the night with with 37 shooting but 10 assists, four rebounds, one of three from three, which at least he made one of them seven points, 23 again, 23 minutes.
I thought he played pretty well on both ends of the ball today.
So again, like we've complained about Rondo, we've said that he's probably not the right piece moving forward for them and that still stays.
But But regardless of that, he had a nice night tonight.
Yeah, we got to give credit where he does have good games and again they happen once every every every four or five times together a nice little run late the year where he's put up some numbers.
Obviously, a few of those were in blow games, too.
But, um, again, you know, I was always talking about off off the top of the show.
I think for me, it's kind of it's such a weird.
It's like a mishmash of guys on the bench that you wouldn't expect to be effective in certain roles.
But you don't know who's going to step up behind 80 and LeBron on any given night.
And I think Rhonda was another one of those guys.
He's gonna have a good night's game.
Mary are nice stretch, maybe a couple of weeks or he plays really good for four games.
And then he didn't fall off a cliff for five games.
And you're gonna be like, **** Rondo sucks.
But that s O on.
I think that now, as I'm sure you know, you spend so much time watching the Lakers and and reading about them and and learn about the team now, at this point, I'm certainly just accept the fact that you don't know what any of these guys is gonna bring on any given night.
because when the bench has been really bad, the entire taker, entire Lakers team looks off.
Right When the bench of the air in two or three guys contribute like this, it's a completely different story.
When you have four or five of them rolling, the Lakers are winning by 25.
And so for me, I think this is just what the Lakers are.
I'm not gonna sit here and regular guys for not being consistent because none of them are at this point, and some of them just don't have the capability.
That's why their bench players, that's what eventually, Jen.
And so for me, I just think it's a mish mash of everything.
What about you? Yeah, you know, I think that there's AA degree of that where you don't know on any given night, which player is going to be good, and some people have mentioned what Rhonda wasn't great in the first half.
Yeah, that's true.
He wasn't and then it's kind of a Jekyll and Hyde performance, but opposites with Rondo and Cosmo, Cosmo was tremendous in the first half, not so great in the second half.
He made a number of decisions where I was well, I was yelling, Put it that way.
But But Rhonda, on the other hand, was just okay in the first half, and then the second half, he really turned it on.
So you've got these guys who just don't have that consistency.
But on any given night, they can get it going and really help your team.
And so there's the positive side of it.
There's the negative side of it.
Yes, ideally, you would have more consistent players, but right now this is what the Lakers are working with and credit to Frank Vogel for figuring out who's having a good night, who's having a bad night.
Who can we lean on tonight and then making those adjustments in order to kind of to find ways to win games, even when he knows that he's not gonna build, rely on the same guy every single night? Yeah, I think that's where that's where a part of not having a set rotation really in terms.
I mean, you have the starting lineup and usually his first sub is whose are you in for detail? I mean, you kind of has that down too. But at the end of the game.
He just going with what's working and what isn't.
And so I think that's what we saw.
Caruso get a little less run today than we did because in the second half, Rondo Yeah, you played pretty, really a 10 times to with and he was controlling the ball well, so again, I think it's kind of a good way to run this team, which is that you don't have.
Lou Williams were like, you know, he didn't score 25 points off the bench.
So let's make sure we play em.
You have just a bunch of guys were capable maybe once in a while and going off for 25 points.
And you're just hoping you find the right combination.
And just just to clarify that, like if you could find that Lou Williams type player, you take it. You take that.
You think we're not saying that? Hey, you know, you'd rather not know you'd rather not know who's gonna be the guy.
You know, it's the It's the mystery surprise.
Who's gonna be the one tonight? Let's see.
Oh, no, you don't want that.
You want consistency.
But in lieu of that, Vogel has done a good job on each night, figuring out just who it was.
That's going to be, you know, the mystery player who's gonna be behind door number three or whatever.
That's going to be the guy to step up.
I've got Miguel Arroyo from YouTube says Stop hating on Rondo, please, Trevor.
His assist are crazy. Good.
I thought that's what I was doing.
I tried to give Rondo as much credit as I possibly can when he's when he's playing well tonight.
He played well again.
All credit to run.
Do I need a Rondo shirt? Is that is that? It was I know.
Don't want 36 games when he plays like that.
I need I need a runner.
Sure. This isn't interesting.
Um it flew past me here.
Somebody said I'm sorry I missed your name, but somebody said Kyle Kuzma needs dreadlocks.
Would that lead to consistency? Is there is there like, a link there or what? It's a lot better than the Ellroy slim, shady look that he's going that he's going for right now.
I want to go with the dreads.
Just be looking little more menacing No, I don't know if he'll play any better.
All right? So you think the dreads would give him a little bit of a tougher look? Well, maybe it would contribute.
Why do you think I don't actually this, do I.
I do think that Cooze has looked a whole lot more comfortable over the last maybe 3 to 4 weeks.
I just think you have anything that comes in.
I think it comes out way.
Don't mention with That's OK, that's so weird.
But yeah, kind of.
Guzman does look like he's a bit more bit more relaxed.
I'll tell you what. Look in all seriousness.
The one thing that I'm really liking about Kyle Kuzma is when the ball get swung around the perimeter right now, you're now seeing him make the extra pass to the open shooters.
And that's something that people that guy's on the Lakers were getting mad at him about because the ball was getting to him and then dying because he was trying to attack and get the bucket himself.
Now he's moving the ball along, and a lot of cases it's actually finding its way back to him, and he's getting better.
Looks out of it.
So credit to him for making that adjustment.
It's made their offense a lot, a lot better.
And so that's been a big thing for Kyle Kuzma.
Look, he made some big mental errors in the second half.
There was one play.
He drove into the pain.
There was no option there to shoot, and he pulled the ball back out.
He didn't force the shots.
I went, Yes, nice job, pal Cruz.
Miss Smart does it.
Oh, he tried to throw a lobster LeBron that wasn't there.
And it turned into a turnover, which turned into a transition.
Three for the Nets.
He doesn't have all the pieces together yet, but I feel like he's getting there slowly.
But surely he's getting that.
You can see the gears turning when he's out there on the floor.
He starting make smart decisions, and that's Ah, that's credit to Kuzma.
Credit to his teammates.
Credit to the coach coaching staff were continually working with them, and he is getting better and better here again.
I think that's why I like you're saying, I think it's more about comfort.
And I think he just getting more comfortable with the with the dudes that he's with, an understanding that this isn't last year's team where if I catch it on ah, on a pass and I have a guy running out to me, I'm gonna take a three.
It's like, Don't make the extra pass because you thought were proven, capable people around him.
So I think again, it's It's a comfort thing more than anything else, Just like it isn't Casey Pete.
Yeah, yeah, agreed.
I think that he is just He's settling in a little bit now.
That doesn't mean that the trade rumors were going to go away those air going to be a thing.
And that's not you know, We've been getting a lot of people commenting saying, Oh, you know, you want to trade everybody? No, I don't want I don't want to trade anybody, just doesn't want to trade anybody.
We just think you have to explore the options when you've got a team who has the potential like the Lakers do to win a championship.
You can't get sentimental right now and say, Oh, this is our guy.
We have to hang on to him or his future is gonna be great.
If you have a chance to put up Number 17 in the rafters, you've got to do whatever it takes to get there.
And that might mean listening to some trade offers and things like that.
That doesn't mean that you automatically make a deal.
In fact, most likely the best move is going to be no move pay.
But it's something that you have to you have to explore and look, I am Kyle Kuzma.
I'm still high on him.
I think its potential is there.
I think he's the type of wing that the N Ba is clamoring for.
A lot of teams around the league would love to have a Kyle Kuzma type player.
Yes, he's got plenty of holes in his game to work on.
But I do still believe in Kyle Cruise.
But I think that there's a very good chance that keeping Kyle Kuzma and just grabbing players off the bio market, especially if one of them is Darren Collison, will actually be the best course of action for the Lakers.
Well, the thing is, when people look at it like the Lakers aren't perfect.
Yeah, the 36 9 The record shows that they're **** near close toe, having a perfect record, but they still have weaknesses on the team.
So I don't think Rob Pelinka would be doing his job.
I don't think Jeannie Buss would be doing her job, but she's not employing Rumple ain't gonna make moves in order to make this team even better than when it can be.
So again, we're not looking at it for what it is.
We're looking at it for what the ceiling can be.
And I think that's what people might get like you want.
Nobody's saying we want to trade anyone or it isn't it doesn't make sense.
It trade Kyle, whose mind don't trade it, right.
You know, if you're gonna get someone to make your team better than absolutely, you have to.
You have to at least explore the option to do that.
Jess Carnal Michelle Johnson, who comments all the time, has been coming here has been with this even last year, when we first started the show and everything just asked, was just upset that the Clippers lost last time.
I just you know what I'm gonna I'm gonna try to put a crisp masses into a master life for him disclosing the information that I decided to take my family, my young family members You want to go to a basketball game business in L. A.
I took him to a Clippers game, so I guess I'll have to live this one.
Live with this one for the rest of the year.
But once you turn the corner, you know, putting Christmas.
Trust me and manipulate me like a pretzel.
So I don't think that's way would have to change your screen all around so it would just be from the neck up so you we wouldn't be able to see the full body cast.
Yeah, Yeah, I would do some some pretty mean things to me. I'm sure I gave the opportunity.
You would literally just be a talking head.
That would be it.
That would be all that was left of objects.
Um okay, let's see here.
Ad few people talking about Ah, about when LeBron passes Kobe.
We can already addressed that.
Let's talk about the next game coming up against the going up against the Philadelphia 76 years.
I think this is gonna be a really good test because the Lakers usually have a size advantage over most teams.
Ben Simmons at the point guard spot.
That gives them a pretty good size advantage, although you know he's still can't or won't or both shoot three.
So there's that issue.
Obviously, it's going to be fired up in the middle.
Hopefully, JaVale McGee is back for that one because I think they're going to need him.
I think this is gonna be a tough one.
This is gonna be a big matchup for the Lakers.
And I'll tell you what If they approach this the way they approach the Boston game, where they're just looking at it? Oh, this is just another game.
They're gonna be in trouble because I can almost guarantee Philadelphia is not going to take this as just another game.
They're going to take this as an opportunity to prove themselves against the team that's got the best record in the Western Conference.
Well, I don't know.
From what I heard, he's not playing right because he missed.
He's missed the last couple of games.
So I don't know. Maybe going to be out there? Yeah.
Last I saw, he was he was getting closer.
Let me double check here because we give people the correct info.
But But just while I'm doing that, what are your thoughts on the matchup in general? Do you think that the what do you What are you hoping to see? I should say again.
I think that if the Lakers kind of do what they did over the last you know the back half of the third quarter and throw the fourth, they could impose their will against this team.
I think Philadelphia It's a good team.
I don't think they're a great team like the Lakers are right now.
So again for me, I think it's gonna be tough or 40. Horford.
Part of me is also a very good player.
I think the Sixers could give them fits if the Lakers don't play proper defensively, which I think that they will be able to clamp down a little bit more cause Billy not as explosive, I would say as other teams and so for me, I think they're able to control the pace and play good defense again.
The Lakers should competitively, with the victory depends on on where their energy and effort level.
I think Philly is a championship contender.
Just update on the M B thing.
The latest thing I'm finding here Onge Oil and Beat is that he is is sidelined, for he was sidelined for Wednesday's game against the Raptors into play.
But they're going to re evaluate him in the next few days, and if he's cleared for full contact, it's possible he could bid in a practice.
It's gonna be a big, telltale sign if he practices tomorrow, and then that will be.
That will inform us, most likely of whether or not he's gonna play against the Lakers.
So right now he's doing non contact.
Where I would say the fact that he's doing on contact right now probably suggests that he won't play.
But if there's any chance that you can get out there, I think this is a game Philly will try to have him out there for.
He's going to do everything he can to try to be out there for us.
Well, but look, if you're really I would I get why they would be gun shy about putting out on the floor to.
So right now, it feels like it's kind of a coin toss on whether or not envied place.
I think if he does play, it makes a game that much more entertaining.
But I think without him again, I think the Lakers are anywhere from 6 to 10 points better than the Sixers, all things being equal.
So I think if the Lakers kind of impose their will defensively and control the pace of the game again, they should walk out with a pretty easy winner.
Okay, I agree with that.
Well, I hope, I hope if they if they could do that, I don't know, either.
I'm pretty high on the on the Sixers.
Overall, I think they could wind up being the team that comes out of the East not saying they're the favorite, but I wouldn't count them out either.
Like, I think that's possible, so I wouldn't put it past the six years to come up with it with a big performance against the Lakers.
I think it's gonna be a tough one.
This isn't gonna be a cake walk in in my mind.
But one thing I need to address here and we're going to get into this adjustment.
Somebody says Who should guard Ben Simmons when you get to that in just a minute.
But it comment popped up.
And I have to address this because I've been dealing with this question nonstop for the last three or four days.
It's been getting thrown at us one after another.
People have been asking.
I'd rather have Zach Levine of the Bulls.
Please make this time.
Take his question stuff.
Here's what happened.
Everybody okay? There was a sight.
Okay? And I'm not gonna mention the site.
But there was a sight who the writer wrote something on.
Author wrote something An editorial trade something along the lines of trades the Lakers should consider making.
And one of them was a trade involving Zach Levine.
And it was It's a piece is going out from the Lakers exactly being coming in from the Bulls? This was not based on a rumor.
This wasn't based on any sourcing or anything like that.
This was just somebody kind of putting together the math and all.
And there's nothing wrong with these kinds of articles.
That's fine toe.
Look at potential trade scenarios and everything.
But this is not a legit trade rumor.
This doesn't that this isn't saying the Lakers and the Bulls have talked or anything like that.
Somebody just kind of coming up with it.
And then a few other sites again, not gonna name any of them, kind of ran with it and presented it almost like a rumor.
And next thing you know, we're getting asked nonstop about Zach Levine coming to the Lakers.
He's one of the Bulls youngest players.
He's probably the closest they have to a star right now.
It's debatable between him and market end and some other players there.
But for right now, that's not what's happening.
It doesn't make a lot of sense for the Bulls.
T flip Zach Levine at this point to the Lakers.
No, we need to just just stop.
That's not what's happening.
It's not a real rumor, anyway. Sorry.
I need to get off my soapbox here.
What do your would your thoughts on who defends Ben Simmons? I think if you're going with their traditional starting lineup, I think LeBron James is the easy answer to put on Ben Simmons.
You know you don't wanna go with everybody on Avery Bradley.
As good as a defender is, I think Ben Simmons could kill him down.
Low event that that's what they wanted to go with.
Vincent is a great passers.
Well, uh, maybe go with LeBron or Danny Green? No.
What about you? Yeah, I'm probably leaning Danny Green right now just to keep LeBron fresh.
And I don't know, I'm not saying that he's gonna be able to deal with them in the post or anything like that, but I think that if you play Benson is the right way.
If you play him intelligently, you can kind of force him into his weaknesses and you can deal with them.
I think that ultimately it's gonna be a full team defensive effort with him.
But I do think that you can scheme around him, and I think that the Lakers have the coaching staff to do that.
Maybe I'll be proven wrong with the Lakers.
Play the Sixers, but I do think that they'll be able to figure out how to deal with him at two.
Look, Ben Simmons is going to do his thing right.
He's going to score.
He's going to get assist.
That's going to happen.
But I think that they have.
There's gonna be some schemes we're going to see from the Lakers to kind of minimize his impact.
That's what that's what I'm thinking.
And that's what I'm hoping we're going to see on Saturday.
Yeah, I think I think that I think that that's the way to handle it again.
I mean, depending on if they want to preserve, preserve LeBron or not.
I still think that, you know, if you like you mentioned you paid Benson is the right way and try and force him into being obviously a jump shooter, which everybody knows is not his strong point.
You can minimize them, but you don't want to give an opportunity to get going, get going, Re has the ball in his hands, on the block or under on the mid block that he consider and kind of just pick your defense support.
So that's what I was saying.
I'd rather go with LeBron or Danny Green over.
Girly gave me bread, right? Yeah, agree to think that the size advantage is there and That's something that that Frank Vogel is gonna have to figure out.
There was one Maur.
Ah, more more comment that I had coming in year and again.
Guys, they fly by real fast.
Appreciate everybody who's been tossing in all of your questions, all of your comments.
They've been really, really good.
Oh, I guess we can address this, Vince Kwan said.
Where's Chris Masters? Chris will be back on Saturday.
Actually, just talked to him today.
He's just been busy.
He's been doing wrestling stuff and things like that.
So he, uh, he wasn't available last night or or tonight, but we will have them back soon.
Don't Don't worry about that.
Chris will be around.
He will be master locking people soon enough.
And that's going to happen.
There was a good question, but again, guys, Sorry.
They fly by super super fast, and now I'm not finding it here.
Um, people asking if Kobe will be there in Philly and talking about the Clipper game will address the Clipper game on our next show.
We'll get all into that.
Yeah, I lost it.
They go by real fast So, uh, so it's hard to keep up with them sometimes, huh? All right, guys, I think we'll wrap it up there.
Oh, well, here, John from YouTube says Cosmo is not getting the ball enough.
Feels like guys are ignoring him.
LeBron ignoring him.
That's a quick that's actually popped up multiple times here throughout the night.
Let's finish off with that.
Do you think that's an issue? Is that is that happening? Is Canelo get? I didn't get frozen out? No, I think is that, you know, is that if you take, you take enough shots as much, you know, whenever you taken.
I just think he's taken more open shots and it's a part of the offense and we're gonna look at LeBron.
We're gonna look at 80 and then whoever Alice is open.
If you If you got a shot, take it so I don't think he's being frozen out at all.
What about, you know, I think it's It's a matter of quality over quantity.
I'd rather crews would take take five really good open shots than 10 where he's kind of forcing it and you're going.
Oh, well, they're just trying to get Cosmo go in and try and get him his looks.
No, I'd rather he'd just He'd be more efficient because that's gonna be better for the Lakers long term.
So I don't think he's being frozen.
I don't think it's anything like that.
And again, I think that the way he's been moving the ball suggests that, if anything, he's been working better in the Lakers scheme lately.
And that's something through that's something to celebrate that something to into credit him with.
All right, guys, let's Donna's, Gonzalez says.
We're still master.
Yeah, Chris isn't even here.
And we're still master locking all over the place here.
Uh, just let's, uh let's wrap it up here.
Appreciate it, buddy.
