00:00:01
And with that, we welcome you back to SportsCastr.
00:00:04
News was always I'm out of Margaret.
00:00:05
That is Matt Brooks.
00:00:06
And we're talking all things and NBA.
00:00:09
How are you on this fine Thursday morning? Good.
00:00:12
I feel like we have in a way, haven't we? Haven't streamed in like a week.
00:00:16
It feels like a week because, like in our pre show, we were chatting about everything.
00:00:20
I think we're getting our takes off right there.
00:00:23
Did the classic thing.
00:00:24
You're not.
00:00:25
You're You're supposed to not dio when you're doing a podcast in the stream on Always good.
00:00:30
Take E leading off the text beforehand.
00:00:33
Let me get six or seven of these really strong ones out of the way.
00:00:36
We'll see what happens.
00:00:37
We'll see what happens when we go live.
00:00:39
Listen way Coming on the heels of the Celtics heat, Siri's.
00:00:43
We're now the Heat go up and taking even more dominant stance There, 31 on a record setting.
00:00:49
A record breaking Tyler hero goes for 37 in this one, breaking Dwyane Wade's previously set record for a rookie in the playoffs at I think he was only a 27 points, so he had eclipse that pretty early in a lot of regards.
00:01:02
But is that your biggest take away from this Siri's right now, just the play of hero and how he creates a legitimate third option or, you know, everyone structure behind Butler behind drag it.
00:01:16
And that's what makes this Miami team so successful right now.
00:01:19
Yeah, yeah, I think that, like the thing right now that's so interesting about that.
00:01:27
Like, I don't know that the hero thing is big for a couple of reasons. A.
00:01:31
It's fun and exciting to watch.
00:01:34
Um, it's I haven't seen a rookie play like this.
00:01:36
I mean, the graphic came up yesterday, but it brought me back Thio, I guess, to playoffs ago when you had Jayson Tatum just going off in the conference finals and you're watching this guy like I just don't remember a rookie doing this in in a setting like this.
00:01:52
And, you know, it was pretty historical then, and it was plenty historical.
00:01:57
Now.
00:01:58
I mean, Hero was just getting any shot he wanted.
00:02:00
They were.
00:02:01
Some of them were contested.
00:02:02
Some of them were good looks.
00:02:03
He's just a really balanced score.
00:02:05
He's got a nice little layup package.
00:02:07
You know, again, like the hype Israel.
00:02:10
I think he's very, very good.
00:02:12
I think he's going to be an all star.
00:02:17
Really? Like what I saw, but I think be the thing that it really does for the Miami Heat.
00:02:22
As you know, the Celtics have been sitting on Goran Dragic.
00:02:26
They've been really trying to take the forces.
00:02:30
Yeah.
00:02:32
I mean, they're like, we're gonna guard you tightly so you can't rain threes on us and and they've done a really good job with him.
00:02:38
Um, Jimmy's kind of a he's a closer right.
00:02:42
Like he he doesn't really do too much during the games.
00:02:45
He's kind of looking more to involve his teammates.
00:02:48
Um, he and Bam are really the hub of that offense, and I actually really like the way they play things.
00:02:53
I've They don't I don't know if I've ever really see a team ever like this Heat team.
00:02:58
It's so interesting where you have these two, these two guys and bam and Jimmy that are almost like co engines of this offense, but not necessarily in the traditional scoring way.
00:03:08
They try to get their guys around them involved and say, Hey, Jae Crowder like, here's a couple of wing threes.
00:03:14
Um, Duncan Robinson.
00:03:15
We're gonna run a couple of dribble handoffs with you and get you going at the top of the key and then Tyler hero like, Let's just get your confidence pumping.
00:03:22
And it's made a difference with this guy, this 20 year old kid that's out there just raining threes on these poor Celtics.
00:03:29
Um, it's a big thing for them.
00:03:30
And I, you know, you kind of just by nature you're going to have a little bit of pause with a rookie being one of your primary options, like you're just sort of expecting that to dry up and the lights to get bright for him.
00:03:43
But, um, you know, I I right now it's like if they have a third legitimate scorer, I think that was the biggest thing.
00:03:51
They were missing there, obviously great defensively.
00:03:54
We'll talk about that in a second.
00:03:56
But you know, I mean, in terms of like this third scorer thing, I it takes up their ceiling like a nice, healthy level or two.
00:04:03
Yeah, and you go back.
00:04:04
You think about over the course of this Siris for hero especially.
00:04:06
I mean, he hasn't had that.
00:04:08
He didn't have that type of game over the course of this Siri's, but steadily 12 11 22 and then 37 points for him.
00:04:14
Three other big take away going into the playoffs.
00:04:16
And I think even Brad Stevens has talked about him complimentary.
00:04:19
We've heard about his kind of baptism by fire in the practice against Jimmy Butler over the course of this season and not backing down against him.
00:04:27
So having that same type of mentality, which has made it easier for him to maybe ingratiate himself as a rookie to somebody's veterans.
00:04:34
But you go back to that regular season postseason, you know, in this postseason now getting more minutes but hitting better from the field, hitting basically even on three point percentages and seeing an uptick of, you know, a few points per game going back to the regular season.
00:04:45
So I mean, you know, it's a modest jump for him in a lot of ways, and we'll see if something like this 37 point performance starts to open up more for him.
00:04:53
The only I get the curiosity will be you feel like rookies can always have have a bad game, right? I mean, veterans can have a bad game, but you can have guys that just run bad for a stretch.
00:05:04
And I wonder if if we assume they're going to the Finals and I want to get that far ahead of ourselves.
00:05:10
But what can it look like from a defensive matchup against the Lakers? Or even against the Nuggets, where they say, If we throw a couple different looks at you, can we get you off your game for for a minute? And then you talk about Bam and Butler? And like you said, you know Butler is not.
00:05:27
He doesn't need to be in a scoring rhythm throughout the game, that good in this Siri's honestly, like I had a great Game one and it's just been like, you know, like and I wonder great defensively.
00:05:38
He's been really good defensively, but and that's that balance, though, too right? So it's like saying Hey, listen, I'll lock.
00:05:44
I'm locked in defensively and you always hear about this right and sometimes can cost you on the offensive end because you're putting out so much effort.
00:05:49
Usually it's when you're trying to really lock down the stud player.
00:05:53
And luckily, maybe Butler doesn't have to be the scoring engine for the Miami Heat.
00:05:58
So it's okay to trade off that role and say, If I if I diminish myself on the offensive end a little bit, I'm bringing back that value on the other end.
00:06:05
And as long as a hero is gonna go off as long as other guys long as drag it, you can have some big games, then you're okay and you create that balance, I guess, to flip into that defensive side of the conversation.
00:06:16
The one of the first things that jumped out to me was, You go in and you look at Tatum stat line by the end of the game, and you feel pretty good about it.
00:06:22
10 or 22 you know, pretty nice performance.
00:06:25
Upper twenties and scoring Great.
00:06:27
But everybody knows he put 16 points up in the third quarter, didn't have anything in the first half.
00:06:33
What does Miami do? Maybe is the first question, but the second one is like, especially if you're Tatum for the Boston Celtics.
00:06:44
Like they're about balancing rhythm on that team, and when you have tow.
00:06:48
Have the pendulum swing about who's going to carry you quarter to quarter like that.
00:06:51
I think it throws them off in terms of the the overall game plan.
00:06:56
Yeah, I don't know if I'm willing to put it on Tatum because he was so good in the second half.
00:07:01
I actually, I'll be honest.
00:07:02
Like I thought that this was one of the worst coach games I've ever watched Brad Stevens do out there.
00:07:10
Um, there was a lot of discussion, um, about his decision to double on the ball near half court when it's Jimmy Butler and which and which like Okay, sure you want to get the ball out of the best players hands.
00:07:25
Problem is, the escape valve for the best player of the Heat is gonna be banned at a bio.
00:07:31
Who is what, The second best passing big man in the league, like he's going to do that.
00:07:38
And you saw it at the end of the game.
00:07:40
They double the ball.
00:07:41
Jimmy Butler at mid court.
00:07:44
Fine, whatever.
00:07:45
I don't necessarily agree with it.
00:07:47
Like, what is he gonna pull up from? 35 is like, I don't know, but so they go to Bam.
00:07:52
He pings it over to Iguodala under the basket.
00:07:56
Iguodala, another great like great passer, finds Goran Dragic sitting in the corner, probably one of the best three point shooters on either team On the floor.
00:08:06
He doesn't have a man 20 ft near him, and it's just like it's like, Why? What's the decision behind this? On the other end of the floor? This is what Game four of them not being able to figure out the zone.
00:08:18
I know they were able to do it for Game three, find whatever.
00:08:21
Um, why are you not running your offense through the middle of the floor? Every single possession? They did it a couple of times.
00:08:28
The Tatum and I was like, Continue to do that like, Why are you getting these bad shots? Why is Marcus smart ending up with a contest? The three? I don't know.
00:08:36
I didn't think it was a well coached game.
00:08:37
I think spo is coach circles around him, this entire Siri's.
00:08:41
And that would be what I'd be looking at a little bit on day.
00:08:45
And, you know, I was funny.
00:08:46
I was looking at some of the, you know the box scores a little bit and I was like, Okay, so like to come, you know, Ken, but not come through.
00:08:53
Did Jalen Brown not come through and it's like, Yeah, I'm not really like I think I thought they had big shots and, like you're going to get what you want to get out of them And depth is a little bit of an issue with them, but it just felt like everybody had toe work so hard for their shots in this game.
00:09:08
And that's credit Thio spo in the heat who are just running.
00:09:11
I've never seen so much zone in a playoff series.
00:09:14
I mean, this is ridiculous.
00:09:15
Well, I remember, I think one of the in between quarter interviews with Spoelstra on the sideline interview I'll forget I forget her name.
00:09:22
But she asked, You know, you've been running a lot of zone here.
00:09:25
Do you think you'll switch up to man it all? And it was a very, like, supposed to like, Hey, man, maybe with a little man, remember whatever you could tell that like he was.
00:09:34
So, you know, the lack of concern around this idea of like do you need to switch up the defense.
00:09:39
It was kind of like, Oh, I haven't really seeing that.
00:09:42
They're doing anything Thio needs.
00:09:43
It changes.
00:09:44
So why would I? It feels, like, always talk about right, the chess match of the coaches.
00:09:48
But it's where you say, Well, I make this move and then you're waiting for the counter and then I'll see what I need to dio and the counter just doesn't kind of come for you there from from the Brad Steven side of things.
00:09:58
So it was It was the most nonchalant like, Hey, I don't know like E like we're doing good.
00:10:04
I don't know if I need to.
00:10:05
Really, Um, I'm looking upset.
00:10:06
What's going? Incredibly Well, I'm sorry.
00:10:08
Did you just see them double team Jimmy Butler and have we're doing it on the offensive end? Defense events seems to be going really well for us right now.
00:10:15
Um, so the other piece that I wonder because you said about depth from the Celtics side of things.
00:10:20
And again when you talk about having Kemba Walker if he's having a pretty good shooting night, and Jalen Brown and Tatum and smart like you have so many quality options that that can get you good looks on the offensive end.
00:10:34
And yet, when you look in this Siri's, it's also very easy to then look over and see Gordon Hayward and know that he's coming back from this injury.
00:10:42
You're seeing the upticks uptick in minutes, but his numbers air obviously a little bit down a little bit off.
00:10:47
How important is that piece for this team? Because I saw him when he was getting down to the lane on that defense against Miami.
00:10:55
He has the size to get down there and then also take that little step back, hit the turnaround jumper and keep the engine moving offensively for the Celtics.
00:11:03
Unlike you know, it's not really That's not Jalen Brown.
00:11:06
That's not Marcus Smart and and even Tatum when he's a little up and down in the game, inconsistent.
00:11:10
That's really where you you love toe, have Gordon Hayward firing on all cylinders, and unfortunately, it may take him a game or two too long to find his rhythm again.
00:11:20
Yeah, I think they need more from him.
00:11:22
I didn't think he was awesome defensively, Uh, but I think that would be the adjustment right now, I just think overall they could use size like and not like the Robert Williams size.
00:11:34
Like I was surprised they didn't do a little more.
00:11:36
Grant Williams, Who's I've seen, like, little clips here and there of him making, you know, nice passes, especially out of the middle of the floor.
00:11:44
Um, which again is the way to break the zone? Defense is is just put somebody in the middle if they're gonna run three to zone.
00:11:51
But, I mean, um, yeah, I think Hayward would be a good option for that.
00:11:56
Right? Really? Really good playmaker.
00:11:58
Really, really good.
00:11:59
Probably their best playmaker on the floor.
00:12:01
Although Tatum's really improved in that regard, Um can really hit that mid range shot.
00:12:05
We saw him do it on the drive.
00:12:07
I mean, he had that sweet play where he went all the way to the basket.
00:12:11
Did that nice little turn around.
00:12:12
It was balanced.
00:12:13
It was like, Okay, alright, little Gordon, I've to deal.
00:12:18
And, uh and and we just didn't get any more of that.
00:12:21
It was It was It was a little odd.
00:12:24
And I Tatum Kemba Brown Hayward, which is I think we all think makes sense because that's what it was in the regular season.
00:12:46
I think I think Kemba Walker would be my fourth option right now.
00:12:51
I just I don't know.
00:12:53
I think I would be running him off screens and not really putting the ball in his hands that much.
00:12:57
He just hasn't like generated that many shots that I've been super keen on.
00:13:02
They've done really like a solid job on his high screen game, where he just does those pull up shots of the toes, like right on the line that he's been doing since forever.
00:13:11
So, uh, I don't know if you were three, but it isn't because I always wondered, too, about certain certain point guards, right, Unless you're a real downhill kind of guy.
00:13:19
And I know this isn't this is a terrible example to start throwing out like a Russell Westbrook or something, but just someone who attacks the basket with consistency if you don't have that in a guard and your underside is relatively speaking, as the MBA starts to fall into this medium kind of height, where everyone's now to go, okay, be the high facilitator and like you said in this game where you go 6 to 14 you have 20 points, but you only have 46 Like I think I said is going into the serial, I might have said in the previous series where I was like Kemba Walker's job should he should be hyper focused on facilitation and everything else should be a secondary.
00:14:04
Great.
00:14:05
If I get it and live and die by the fact that if I put Gordon Hayward in a great spot, he's missing his looks.
00:14:10
Okay, we're gonna live with that because I'm not going to.
00:14:13
I don't think that he is going to be the pivotal factor in this game from a scoring standpoint.
00:14:19
Get to your point, right? Like great.
00:14:20
I've got scores.
00:14:21
What I don't have is quality guys that can make sure we're getting those good looks around the floor when we need it and creating, especially against the zone, right? You're supposed to be a veteran that knows how to break that down and get guys into better spot.
00:14:32
So I wonder if that's really where he should have been shifting already.
00:14:35
And now maybe it's a step too late in that regard as well.
00:14:38
Um the other piece and you get You can give my accolades around around that statement on Walker, but the other one is you said about getting bigger.
00:14:46
But I wonder when you mentioned, like Grant Williams and some of that passing the difference between him and entices so small in terms of height, even though its power forward to center.
00:14:57
Is there anything in your mind that says maybe getting him mixed in there a little bit more because he could do a little bit better within the passing game and try to break down the zone a little bit more effectively and maybe push Spoelstra in the heat off of that idea earlier in the game? Yeah, they just need to do.
00:15:15
I don't know.
00:15:16
I I Yeah, I guess it would, because I didn't feel like the Thais Minutes were awesome.
00:15:19
I mean, part of it is that bands just hilariously better e We've got this car and I want to say like if it hadn't been for hero, just absolutely raining fire on the on the Celtics Bam was the M V p of that game like that was such a bam game.
00:15:35
It's the hand off the finding guys that final play that I talked a little bit earlier Where he you know, he gets into Gigi.
00:15:41
Gigi gets into the corner to Dragic.
00:15:43
Um, he's getting every single rebound, like the amount of rebounds that that guy was grabbing yesterday, that I was like, He has no chance.
00:15:50
There's, like, three Celtics, right? There doesn't matter.
00:15:53
It gets it, uh, got his hands on.
00:15:55
I think he forced the turnover against Marcus Smart late, where Smart tried to hit an entry pass.
00:16:00
I mean, it was just It was a classic bam game and he was so much better, just so much better than Thais.
00:16:07
And it's like I don't really know what you can do about that.
00:16:10
Like, it's funny.
00:16:11
It's We started out doing these streams being like, Wow, I guess this is the playoffs where, uh, where three pointers matter and this and nothing else.
00:16:19
That's really what it felt like early on the bubble.
00:16:22
And now I'm kind of looking at this like you kind of need a playmaking big like it really matters in this playoffs, and it's it's an interesting thing. Toe watch.
00:16:31
I mean, all these teams now think about the team, that's probably going to go home first.
00:16:34
It's the Celtics who don't really have a top 30 center.
00:16:38
They don't and everybody else does.
00:16:41
So it's interesting.
00:16:43
It's just like, Okay, I'm here for this way.
00:16:46
We have talked about it going.
00:16:51
Are those three balls so many teams were built around that were saying before we started this to not lose track of one of our I think better takes are better.
00:16:58
Pre pre pre co takes was the idea of has the Celtics Heat games on a game to game basis? They haven't been.
00:17:10
You know, I'm not the same mid eighties.
00:17:12
There's something is the physicality of that.
00:17:13
But just go back.
00:17:14
You know, 10 years or so when there was a little bit more of these defensive battle like I like those like, I get that when you when you go back four or five possessions in a row, that may be involved, a past break up or involved a nice place.
00:17:34
What I really see is like this is like, ah, hard nosed attention to detail, extra defensive effort from both teams and it's forcing difficult plays and you have to really be hyper focused on both ends of the floor.
00:17:47
Does it slow things down a little bit? You get bogged down for chunks of the game shore, but I actually enjoy that.
00:17:52
Like I I think that it's great to see about, because at that point it becomes, hey, who really has the best all around game here who has the best collection of complementary pieces because it's easy to James.
00:18:02
Harden it and be like, Hey, listen, I'm gonna keep firing threes.
00:18:04
And if I run cold for a quarter, I can almost make that not matter by connecting on three or four out of six in the next quarter.
00:18:12
And all of a sudden that 15 point deficit has gone and you're right back in the game.
00:18:15
You know, the Celtics had the battle back from the deficit, and it did take a couple of three pointers.
00:18:19
But neither one of these teams are particularly strong.
00:18:22
Three point shooter also really enjoyed it.
00:18:28
I really like it.
00:18:30
This can switch weeks of final sometimes, but I like it in conference matchups to conference finals.
00:18:35
I think, or where you want to see two teams from the same conference that have experience with one another during the regular season, and you feel like you're also getting some of that.
00:18:42
You know, that bad blood feud a little bit as well.
00:18:44
So the chipping is I've really enjoyed, and we've seen this out in the Western Conference as well that this is more, I think, scrappiness from the Nuggets and just trying Thio have their voice in that Siri's.
00:18:53
But these two teams in Boston and Miami, you have to think Boston looks at it as we were expected to maybe get to the conference finals here.
00:19:02
Maybe we thought it was gonna be Milwaukee.
00:19:03
Maybe we thought was going to Toronto.
00:19:05
But this is where we're supposed to be.
00:19:07
And now you've got Miami.
00:19:08
Who's just said nobody really expected us to be here, and we're gonna keep doing the exact same thing.
00:19:12
So it's a really nice clash, and I just love.
00:19:14
I love the mentality you're seeing out of this Siris in particular, whereas out West right now it feels a little up and down and we'll see how Game four goes there.
00:19:22
Yeah, it's I mean, I think part of it is just like the how wide open the East always was this year, like, no matter what, Um, maybe that's the case in the West.
00:19:32
I don't know.
00:19:33
I mean, um, you know it Z opening this way.
00:19:37
It's been it's in a way.
00:19:39
It's been a little, a little frustrating, I think.
00:19:43
Toe watch, because of the Celtics being four games in and not knowing how to break his own.
00:19:48
Like I just like I don't under I don't understand that.
00:19:51
That's the part of the Siri's where I'm like, I'm just going to come back to that for the next a couple of months.
00:19:57
If this does end in five, when I'm talking with the Celtics, should be like, So what went wrong here? Because I think on paper, this team is better now.
00:20:05
I don't know.
00:20:06
It's it's and it's one of these.
00:20:07
Siri's where it's kind reminds me that Clippers Siri's where I spend more time, you know, talking about the team that lost like that, lost in really tough, embarrassing fashion.
00:20:16
But I don't know, it's it's I think there's a lot of takeaways that we're gonna get from this beyond the heat, just being a really fun team that, uh, just such a balance roster.
00:20:26
It's like a little bit of everything.
00:20:27
It's like the star that makes everybody better.
00:20:30
The big man that could do it all, uh, the, you know, kind of like the veteran point guard that knows exactly what he's doing.
00:20:38
And then the spark plug in Tyler here.
00:20:40
Oh, by the way, they also have this, you know, absolute sniper and Duncan Robinson, who hasn't played that well because the Celtics have been always really good neutralizing these these catch and shoot type of guys.
00:20:51
So I mean their balance and the Celtics on the other side of the floor.
00:20:56
They have, like, what? Three wings? Um, a couple of score first point guards and a lot of centers that air undersized like It's not necessarily the most balanced roster I know that's a really, you know, kind of overview that isn't necessarily fair.
00:21:11
But, you know, I mean, it's I don't know.
00:21:15
I I don't know how much I'm supposed to react to the Boston thing.
00:21:18
I think they're gonna be fine with Jalen and Jason, but that long term especially.
00:21:23
But I do think that that the free agency signings that they've made our You're looking at him a little bit like Okay, this is your wanna Kemba.
00:21:32
What does it look like in your three year four? Hayward's got a player option this year, so they will be very interesting summer, I'll say that.
00:21:40
Well, by the way, it's like you're talking about you're talking so much about bam Out of bias like put ah bam! Out of bio type of player on the Celtics.
00:21:47
My God, my God, look what unlocks for all of these great pieces that you have and that's that's the difference.
00:21:52
Unfortunately, it's not like you go.
00:21:53
I just think Obama bio.
00:21:55
There's plenty of those guys lying lying around.
00:21:57
You could do everything so well.
00:21:58
One of the last, the last couple things, is one you're talking about the heat, and then some of these key players they have the other day when I was talking with Keith around that nugget sequence at the end of the game there what? Jamal Murray gets that swat and then you bring in Plumlee.
00:22:11
Everyone's questioning that coaching move, and we compared it to the idea of and what's nice about a deep playoff run when you haven't Iguodala that I threw that name out there is saying not a like for like in a position.
00:22:21
But I would say, Boy, if Iguodala hadn't played a lot of minutes over the course of the game and I wanted to insert him for a key defensive sequence at the end, I wouldn't be concerned about Boy, is he not ready for it? Is he gonna miss that? They're gonna miscommunication because he has so many so many great playoff experiences, You know that I feel like you can trust him.
00:22:39
Playing has been around, but I don't look at him nearly that.
00:22:42
You know, you don't look at him as being this valuable key piece.
00:22:44
So it was like, You're doing a disservice by by thrusting him into it.
00:22:48
You're asking for a break down there and really on that regard we said, You know, Paul Millsap is a smaller Yes.
00:22:54
Is he? Is he left less athletic? Yes.
00:22:56
Has he also been put playing the bulk of the game and is in sync, like in rhythm right now, to make that play 100% I think you sacrifice what the extra couple inches are and say I'll trust Millsap to get out there.
00:23:07
But Iguodala is another piece like that that I think becomes key.
00:23:12
Just like those are the little things right when you can have him come in for a nice little stretch.
00:23:16
You mentioned finding him down low and then he doesn't go.
00:23:19
I gotta get out. Get this ball up.
00:23:21
You know, let's lay this thing in.
00:23:22
He's already thinking about where is my outlet pass? Where's the open shooter? How Doe.
00:23:26
I get us a quality look and having those little things to fill out a roster also pays huge dividends, especially late in games like this.
00:23:33
Let me.
00:23:34
I don't do that because I think because the league is so open, you know, you always hear people saying, Oh, whoever coaches don't matter. It doesn't matter.
00:23:41
Whatever.
00:23:42
You could put anybody there.
00:23:43
I've heard that a million times about the Nets, so it doesn't matter when the league's this wide open.
00:23:48
It matters like you're in a serious where I honestly think the Nuggets and Lakers air pretty even.
00:23:54
I I I know that that feels weird to say, and it must feel weird to hear, but I don't think there's that much separating them.
00:24:01
I I think that Nicole Yokich has been the best player in the Siri's.
00:24:05
And then it's probably Anthony Davis, then LeBron and then probably Jamal Murray like it's it's a pretty even Siri's.
00:24:11
I haven't seen too much in that serious.
00:24:13
That tells me otherwise.
00:24:14
Um, by the way, coaching impacts maybe being up in that syriza for sure, and and they he coached a better.
00:24:22
Malone coached better game last game.
00:24:23
I really think he did.
00:24:25
I mean, he just kind of he did certain things defensively that I thought were the right adjustments against the Nuggets and are the Lakers.
00:24:33
And I don't know, Um, you know, putting the ball in and saying, Hey, we should really just lean on Raja and Rondo and Caruso To shoot threes like that was that was what made the difference in that game.
00:24:43
So that's kind of I think, that whole argument you've gotten a lot of pushback this year of Yeah, I know coaching really matters.
00:24:51
Like the Celtics.
00:24:53
They've what blown to 15 ish point leads in this.
00:24:58
Siri's, um, they came back from down nine.
00:25:02
I think it was with a minute to go in this game like that gets swept under the rug a little bit because they lost the game.
00:25:07
But it was.
00:25:08
And I think that's what also gets frustrating and connects into your coaching standpoint of like, we'll figure this out at the start of the, you know, figure out what you need to do to get back into it earlier.
00:25:17
It can't be this late of an adjustment that you know, ends up becoming.
00:25:21
Listen, if everything goes right, we could be back in this game in the closing moments, as opposed to being a little bit ahead of the curve there.
00:25:27
Sure, and like the adjustments, like put great Williams and don't double the ball like those little things add up and then, like, made the difference in this game.
00:25:34
It made the difference in that Nuggets game idea why Miles Plumlee was out there? I've watched the clip a million times.
00:25:41
I've heard people explain there was a miscommunication, the root problems that he's out there.
00:25:45
Why is a a slower backup center guarding a team that Z obviously going to take? You know, I mean, maybe not obviously.
00:25:55
But, you know, has a perimeter stretching big that they were going to go do.
00:26:00
I mean, I I don't understand it.
00:26:03
And, uh, it z it matters.
00:26:05
It just does it zbig thing.
00:26:08
So make sure you have the right guy.
00:26:11
Well, by the way, and even though I think Vogel's done a really nice job for the Lakers this year, I have been maybe I should Maybe I shouldn't be so impressed by him.
00:26:19
But it's just one of those things where you see where he came from, and you're just kind of wondering, right? Is he just a figurehead? Etcetera.
00:26:24
But he's done a really nice job there.
00:26:26
And to your point of, you know, it matters less when you have a LeBron James for stretches, There's times in the game where he can look and understand what's going on.
00:26:37
And he can dictate tempo in the play and understand.
00:26:39
You know, you can have high a***en guys that make it easier from a coaching standpoint, but sometimes I think that can be a detriment when you just rely on those players to say these guys were mostly taking care of it.
00:26:50
We talk things over in practice, we run our sets, but Then when I get into game time, if you're gonna let these guys just go with it and maybe I don't know if this isn't indictment on Brad Stevens or not of saying like what? We're gonna keep running our thing.
00:27:01
We know we we trust it.
00:27:02
You can trust it.
00:27:03
But at a certain point you have to be willing to acknowledge what isn't working or what is effectively coming at you from a Spoelstra side of things and saying, We need I need to do something different, Something new.
00:27:13
Yep.
00:27:14
The last little point for me is we talked about Tatum Quiet.
00:27:17
First half comes on in the second.
00:27:19
I've always looked at him, especially coming to this year.
00:27:21
He has nice physical set, you know, He's a nice big player but relative against Miami, and I notice this watching last time I go.
00:27:29
He just looks like a guy in there, you know? And so long side of Jimmy Butler, who's a big, is a fairly big physical presence.
00:27:35
Even mixing auto bio.
00:27:38
Is that a, um, I am I reading? Am I looking at that wrong here, where I just feel like his? What should be his nice size and length.
00:27:46
Some of the attributes we love about him seem diminished in this particular Siri's against this roster for Miami.
00:27:52
I don't know if you count Iguodala into that mix and just some of these guys that seem to have that right combination of of decent length, good size and it just makes everything that Tatum wants to do a little bit more difficult.
00:28:04
We're talking about Kate.
00:28:05
Um, Tatum is the one that we're worried about.
00:28:07
His length of it.
00:28:08
Yeah, it's being like I I I think that he's a nice guy with nice length and nice eyes, nice strength.
00:28:13
But it feels like Miami matches up well against him.
00:28:16
So So his problem right now is I think, that he's a little he's got the mid range game.
00:28:23
He's got the three point shooting because inside game is quietly not that good.
00:28:28
It's just not e.
00:28:30
I think that if you lean on him and you forced him to put the ball like yeah, yeah, that and one in the second half.
00:28:35
Okay, He will add that to his game, and when he does, he's going to be an M V P candidate he will.
00:28:39
He's gonna figure out his floater game, which is atrocity like It's so bad, It z a play where you went up.
00:28:46
He did a spin move, and all you had to do was doing classic guys sitting in his chair telling the guy how to play basketball.
00:28:56
But like all he had to do, and I think he drew contact Fine, whatever.
00:29:00
Um, it's it's just a little missing thing in his game.
00:29:03
He's got to get a little bit better around the rim and against a team that's full of veterans and just really smart defensive players like the the Miami Heat.
00:29:13
They're either gonna force you into that step back, which you're really good at going right to left my right about that, right? Left, Yes.
00:29:20
And then left, right.
00:29:21
You're not as good on that shot, because again, you're a righty.
00:29:24
So you're gonna be better going to your basically bringing your movement to the left.
00:29:29
So So I mean, you know, right now he's a very he's going to be so good.
00:29:33
I mean, like, if there's one thing you could take away from this, like God, that guy is gonna be absolutely terrifying, and there's gonna be so many good young players in this league like 25 year old Jason Tatum.
00:29:45
I want nothing to do with that guy.
00:29:46
I really dio.
00:29:47
If I'm the Brooklyn Nets, I'm like We gotta win this like next year like it's gonna it's gonna pick up.
00:29:53
By the way, let's not.
00:29:54
Let's not don't take away from this that Adam is like a little unsure about about Jason and what it's capable of.
00:30:00
It's just mawr off because we talked about the start of the year, where was like Boy, he's taking that next big step and there's still more for him to grow in.
00:30:06
And there, same way that you look at, uh, even though you've got injured.
00:30:10
This year, we talked about Yanis where you go.
00:30:11
Okay, as great as this guy is, when it comes to playoff basketball, there's still some things that he could grow and get better at that than are going to make it impossible to fend him.
00:30:19
Impossible toe win.
00:30:20
Siri's against them when you feel like they're just better team on paper anyway, my heart take let me end on this.
00:30:26
I actually I think that Tatum as I mean, Tatum's a lot closer to being what I think he's gonna be then, like a Yanis like Yannis has got so much he's gotta add.
00:30:36
And that feels crazy because he is, Because I e.
00:30:41
I don't know.
00:30:42
Maybe it's just a usage thing like they need to, because I mean, look like, you know, if you put him in a system where he isn't isolating and taking like free throw line jumper, he's really just being a little bit.
00:30:54
You just think you should be used as a center.
00:30:56
Like if you use him as a center a little bit more.
00:30:58
I think that's gonna be where you unlock him.
00:31:00
And I don't think, Coach, but has done a good job.
00:31:02
Speaking of their, you know, coaching again, like it's time and time again in this playoffs, it's mattered so much.
00:31:08
So, um, yeah, I mean, Tatum is gonna be great, and, uh, it's gonna be fun these next couple of years.
00:31:14
I'm so excited for this Next, uh, this next generation I mean, like what? It's like every team has a guy, it feels like right now, and this is gonna be one of the most.
00:31:23
I feel like you got to say it's a lot sometimes in the MBA, but like this off season and how, especially from Eastern Conference teams, How do they look at themselves? How are the Nuggets coming out of this playoff run? Regardless of what happens and saying, Are we that much closer than we thought we were? Where, where do we look around the league and say, Maybe there is a key piece that we add Like it feels like there's a potential for some real shifts here.
00:31:45
And that includes, by the way, Gordon Hayward, who you assume, is opting in.
00:31:49
But you know who knows what.
00:31:50
Boston may take a step back and say about how they're constructed as well if they think inside the Eastern Conference.
00:31:56
Now we have to contend with Miami on top of the Brooklyn Nets and what they're gonna look like on top of maybe Milwaukee, depending on what they do.
00:32:03
So there's lots of watching.
00:32:04
It is funny.
00:32:05
I probably tend to agree with you on Tatum's all around game is more evolved than Yanis currently, but that can also be a product of coaching and the players that you're surrounded by.
00:32:16
So, uh, listen, there's still exciting games.
00:32:18
Obviously, we're gonna get back in on, uh, the Nuggets and the Lakers a pivotal game.
00:32:23
For all of a sudden, we could be sitting there dead.
00:32:24

00:32:40
Yes, he's in here, man.
00:32:42
And he was talking some private chat stuff where I was like, Okay, this guy, this guy's got a year.
00:32:46
I got like, he went super high level.
00:32:49
Yeah.
00:32:50
Okay, here we go.
00:32:51
Here we dropped, like like I don't even know what it was.
00:32:54
It was like some individual, like, four games sample of I don't even know what your slacks and I was like, Yo, what the like, This guy's got it.

Dwyane Wade reacts to Tyler Herro breaking his Heat rookie record

Tyler Herro had himself a game on Wedensday night for the Miami Heat, as they took a commanding 3-1 lead over the Boston Celtics in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals. The rookie was on fire all game long, with an astounding 37 points on 14 of 21 shooting. Herro’s monster game broke a […]

00:32:24
Even you can come in here on SportsCastr and search the hashtag S c n n ba.
00:32:30
So you'll get things like Matt myself talking about this game.
00:32:33
You also get McPherson, you'll get Simeone Russell dropping in there.
00:32:36
We have a new member of the team is well, who unfortunately, I believe it's James James.
00:33:05
Hold on s so you can check out for him as well.
00:33:08
We're ramping it up, and we're doing a lot of great coverage, so obviously follow myself follow Matt Brooks here doing his thing and check back in with us.
