00:05:47
So, Mike, how are we doing today? I like to believe I'm still among the living and I hope I'm still coming through loud and clear on your airwaves.
00:06:03
But yes.
00:06:04
Ah, Internet connection in Rhode Island is definitely an interesting proposition, especially for me.

Send some comments in there.
00:06:31
I know Kyle's gonna be talking to himself for most of the show, so please help him out.
00:06:35
Make him feel a little bit better.
00:06:36
Um, but if you want to actually talk to us, give us a call.
00:06:41
I mean, we got a phone number.
00:06:43
We desperately want to talk to people.
00:06:45
I mean, we don't have that many friends, so, you know, we want to hear from you, So give us call 626310888 to if you don't want to talk if you're a little shy A little, You know, camera shy or Mike shy.
00:06:57
Um, text us, same number.
00:07:00
Send us a message.
00:07:01
Let us know what you think.
00:07:02
We're gonna be talking a lot of NFL today.
00:07:03
Obviously, there's some news coming out of the, um you know, we cut stone it yesterday when it comes to, you know, the players wanting answers when it comes to Cove it ah, processes and how it's going to affect the season.
00:07:18
What the What? The players are gonna have to go through this that and the other.
00:07:20
And we have some answers to that.
00:07:22
Um, we kind of got some Antonio Brown news, I guess. I don't know.
00:07:26
I mean, this is Ah, someone tweet that.
00:07:28
Ah, he is one retirement off from the record, which is Brett Farve set 2010.
00:07:33
So Ah, you know, we'll see how that progresses throughout the rest of the off season.
00:07:37
But, um but yeah, we're here.
00:07:39
And where we are, we're ready to rock and roll.
00:07:42
Yeah, we are definitely here.
00:07:44
And, uh, interesting point on Antonio run.
00:07:47
You gotta wonder who keeps the statistics.
00:07:50
There's someone out there in some ba*****t taken taking these stats down, but yeah, interesting stuff when it comes to a B.
00:08:00
Ah, there's never a shortage of information, never a shortage of things to talk about when it comes to hey, and, uh, yeah, until until the retirement talk is fully behind us at and, um very, very leery to buy it.
00:08:16
But you know what? We'll see.
00:08:17
I mean, the stranger things have happened, but we're hearing that there was still teams interested, and I think there's as long as they're still teams interested in as long as There's still a brand to promote.
00:08:26
I don't think babies going anywhere anytime soon.
00:08:29
So keep a sharp eye, folks.
00:08:30
See what's what's what with that, But, uh, yeah, the latest retirement talk.
00:08:34
I'm not really buying it.
00:08:36
Me neither.
00:08:37
You know, for all those faults, he does know how to keep himself relevant.
00:08:40
Um, you know, this is, you know, any any sort of publicity is good publicity.
00:08:45
Right? Um, I guess with Antonio Brown, he hasn't played obviously since last seat world.
00:08:50
Played one game last season and then obviously of full seasons, a year before in 2018 but, um, no.
00:08:57
Hey, look, he's back in the news.
00:08:59
I mean, only has to do every, like, six weeks or so he comes out with some ominous tweet.
00:09:04
You know, they're really says nothing, but it stirs up the pot.
00:09:07
I mean, we saw it with the patriots jersey again.
00:09:09
A few, you know, a few days ago, several days ago.
00:09:11
And it gets people talking.
00:09:13
And again, this is the same thing.
00:09:14
People are talking member when he was a, you know, a recording artist, I think for like, two months, I haven't seen a peep about that yet.
00:09:20
So, um, I don't know how well his record sales air song sales or listen, I don't know how it's measured anymore.
00:09:28
Who knows? Well, I'm sure a lot of people.
00:09:30
No, I I just don't.
00:09:31
Ah, but yes.
00:09:32
So he's gonna keeping himself relevant, at least in the news for not really doing anything.
00:09:37
Um, but yeah, I'm with you.
00:09:39
I don't buy it.
00:09:40
There's again.
00:09:42
I mean, I keep going back to the fact that he's just He's too good not to play.
00:09:46
Excuse me? He is too good not to ah be passed over this entire season.
00:09:51
For one.
00:09:52
He's too good to sit back and say, Yeah, I'm retired and like, I kind of chuckle at it's like, Yeah, I've accomplished it.
00:09:59
No, you haven't accomplished everything.
00:10:00
You haven't won a championship.
00:10:01
So you know, there's something out there for him to prove still.
00:10:05
So I don't even by that statement from where he's like, I've done it all.
00:10:08
And don't get me wrong.
00:10:09
I mean, if he were to retire today, there's a good case for him to be a Hall of Fame player.
00:10:14
Maybe not a first ballot.
00:10:16
I don't I don't I don't think I could make that case, but you know, his domination over the six or seven years where he was just absolutely just tearing up the NFL, and he was clearly the best receiver in the NFL.
00:10:28
It makes it makes a fantastic I mean again.
00:10:31
Yeah, I I Kyle says, Yeah, pretty much a lock.
00:10:33
I mean, again, Probably not a first ballot.
00:10:35
But, you know, if you were to retire, so, yeah, I mean, he's accomplished a lot.
00:10:39
He just hasn't had that ultimate success, so I I don't buy it.
00:10:43
He'll be back eventually.
00:10:45
He'll play for some team.
00:10:47
Um, it might be his very, very last chance, but, um, I I don't I don't believe it.
00:10:53
Yeah, I think there's just too much talent there to hang it up right now.
00:10:56
And look, you you mentioned ah, borderline Hall of Fame career.
00:11:00
At this point, that's really the most important thing missing from his resume.
00:11:04
Is that ultimate success? But, you know, you look at it and you look at what he's able to still bring from the table.
00:11:10
He's still a young guy, still in great shape.
00:11:12
We saw him be able Teoh put the rigors of, AH football season, you know, on his shoulders.
00:11:17
Last year he looked ready to carry that load.
00:11:20
Now, obviously certain things that transpired and it was never meant to be in New England.
00:11:24
I still don't think it's meant to be in New England.
00:11:26
I know a lot of people are trying to cling to that, but I just don't see that happening, folks.
00:11:31
But you know, stranger things have happened.
00:11:33
This may be an interesting year for Antonio Brown to break back in.
00:11:37
I know we're going to talk about the NFL regulations and meetings that went on in New York yesterday in the conference calls that happened between the owners and the Players Association and coming on together on a common ground to work out Kobe 19 testing and certain aspects of the season that are going to make it easier to try to stay healthy.
00:11:57
Or at least we hope so.
00:11:58
I think this opens the door for veterans savvy veterans that are able to come in learn systems and be able to play right away.
00:12:07
Antonio pulls right into that.
00:12:09
The Patriots system is not the easiest system in the world of pick up folks.
00:12:13
It's a complex, difficult offense to be able to navigate.
00:12:18
We've seen great players come in here.
00:12:20
Players with Hall of Fame pedigree.
00:12:22
Guys like Joey Galloway.
00:12:23
Guys like Reggie Wayne.
00:12:24
Guys like Chad Ochocinco come in here and not be able to navigate his, you know, place in the Patriots offense.
00:12:32
Antonio Brown did it seamlessly, and he looked well into being able to ah, you know, fit right in year for quite a while.
00:12:39
That speaks volumes, and I think teams are going to be keeping a sharp eye on guys like that.
00:12:44
The undrafted free agents, the roster, bubble guys, the guys that need it.
00:12:48
Approve it.
00:12:49
Preseason may actually not even get that.
00:12:51
Prove it preseason right now.
00:12:53
So for a crew and for a proven commodity, excuse me like Antonio Brown.
00:12:57
If he's able to come in, prove to a team that he's dialed in and he's gonna be a good show, a soldier on the field, then you know this.
00:13:05
This could be a good year for him.
00:13:06
So that's why I'm not putting stock into into what he says.
00:13:09
Not even so much from the antics standpoint or the ridiculousness of him using social media to further his brand almost every other day.
00:13:19
I think logistically there's gonna be a spot for Antonio on an NFL franchise this year, and that's why I don't think he's gonna be able to pass it up if that opportunity comes knocking.
00:13:27
No, I think you make a really good point, too, about this whole, obviously the whole situation facing the globe.
00:13:33
But obviously, as it pertains to the NFL, we have an answer as to what the preseason is gonna look like.
00:13:40
And it's gonna look like nothing.
00:13:42
You know, it's gonna It's gonna be the preseason of of nothing, because there isn't going to be one.
00:13:47
There isn't going to be a pre season game.
00:13:48
So now all of a sudden, these guys that would normally make the roster because of what they do in the preseason, Um, now all of a sudden, you know, maybe the likelihood of that goes down because, you know, now these players are being evaluated solely at camp.
00:14:07
Now that's not a bad thing.
00:14:08
I mean, the good coaching staffs are gonna be able to find the good players regardless, Um, but this may open up the door for more.
00:14:14
Like you said, veterans that have been around the block a few times know what's going on.
00:14:19
No knows the landscape, so you know that might give more of an incentive for a team to sign Antonio Brown.
00:14:25
Now, look, there's plenty of incentive to inside Antonio Brown.
00:14:29
You know there's.
00:14:30
There's also incentive not to because of the situations that tend to surround him.
00:14:35
But, um, you know, in this case, the football ah, ability is there.
00:14:41
We know that you know he's gonna produce on the field if he space in line.
00:14:46
And that's the big If so, um, yeah, it'll be interesting to see how it plays out.
00:14:50
I don't buy it.
00:14:51
I think he's going to eventually play for some team.
00:14:54
Um, and we'll see.
00:14:56
So anyways, we mentioned no preseason games is one of the ah stipulate or one of the agreements that the players and the league have apparently agreed on? Um, and this is all kind of stemming from that Twitter barrage from from, you know, nearly 100 players, you know, kind of saying like a like we want to play, but we need answers.
00:15:20
We need to figure out.
00:15:21
You know how we're going to go about that.
00:15:24
So, um, one of the things that has come out in the last day or so is that the league has agreed to not have preseason games as we've gone back and forth and it's been two or one or about, you know, all that stuff they want Teoh.
00:15:38
They want to eliminate it so it looks like that's gonna happen.
00:15:41
Um, it looks like they're going to have daily Kobe testing, Um, sometimes twice a day, especially during the first few weeks into camp toe, to assure that Ah, you know, people are healthy and staying healthy and all that stuff.
00:15:56
So there are steps we had made its It's happening quickly, and I think we have a little bit more of an answer than we did yesterday.
00:16:03
Yeah, we definitely do.
00:16:04
And the daily covert testing, especially the by daily Doug Kobe testing if they do that even more than once a day, is a big step toward football being played as scheduled.
00:16:15
And I think in a lot of ways it was so important for players to know that the NFL had their best interests at heart.
00:16:21
I think prior to yesterday there was a lot of controversy.
00:16:24
There was a lot of question and there was a lot that just didn't add up.
00:16:28
When you have that, it's difficult to get 100% buy in from the players on the field.
00:16:33
If they're worried about things that are, you know beyond their control, granted, not going to eliminate positive covert testing, folks, it's not going to eliminate risk completely, but it does mitigate it, and it does allow for the NFL to be able to move forward.
00:16:48
So great job on the covert testing.
00:16:51
I'm glad that this was worked out the way it is, and I think it's a great positive step in the right direction with regard to the preseason.
00:16:58
Obviously, there's no question about it.
00:17:02
You look at the veterans on rosters, the veterans and the guys that are roster locks obviously do not need the preseason.
00:17:08
Ah, we've seen preseasons here in New England, where Tom Brady barely took a snap where Rob Gronkowski didn't play at all where Julian Edelman played sparingly.
00:17:17
These guys are not the ones that need it.
00:17:19
It's the undrafted free agents that are going to suffer as a result of this.
00:17:23
It's also the roster bubble guys, and you talk about New England.
00:17:27
It's a roster I know very well, covering the teams on a daily basis.
00:17:31
These this could be difficulty for guys like a Marqise Lee or a Demir Bird for the Patriots that are trying to crack a wide receiver corps that is predicated on veterans knowing the system, it may be a little bit difficult for them to be able t o to squeeze on the roster now because of what the Patriots air going through.
00:17:51
On the other hand, they have a leg up on the competition of guys like Jeff Thomas or Will Hastings or even a Gunner Schelsky and off Connor doesn't make him, and I don't know what I'm going to do.
00:18:01
I don't know what I'm gonna do that you have to find a part of my soul knocking.
00:18:07
I'm only kidding folks, but guys like that that is trying to prove it, trying to prove to this team that they can get the job done on the field.
00:18:14
They have to do it now in a closed setting, and as much is you can play well in practice, and we've seen practice players play very well.
00:18:24
It's another thing to put it into practice in a game situation, and to me, it's going to be very interesting to see how teams are able to do it, how they're able to get.
00:18:33
You're gonna really see evaluation and you're really going to see coaching skills.
00:18:38
I think be so paramount this year definitely gives the Patriots a leg up on the competition.
00:18:43
There's no question about it.
00:18:44
Very few in the league, if any ER has prepared or better prepared the Bill Belichick.
00:18:48
But you look at teams with established coaches.
00:18:51
You look at teams with coaching staffs that have been in place for a while.
00:18:54
I point to Kansas City and Andy Reid.
00:18:57
You know, that's that's a good point our bar personally about and he's been at the helm for a number of years in that team, so they know his strategy.
00:19:07
They know what he's looking for and he knows how to evaluate the best town for his system.
00:19:11
So I looked two teams like this right now that are really going to emerge and be the the cream of the crop again this year, because again, I think that it's going to be so oh, valuable on there's gonna be such a premium placed on coaching in the preseason in training camp.
00:19:29
You're going to need that because you're not gonna have pre season games to see what these guys can do and evaluate.
00:19:34
But at the end of the day, maybe there won't be too much of a hitch.
00:19:37
If you're a team like New England that knows how to evaluate your talent, preseason games could be a good barometer.
00:19:43
But a lot of times you know what you have before any other team does.
00:19:46
Yeah, and you know, that's another great point.
00:19:49
You know, the this is part of likely gonna benefit the teams that are well coached and have likely been together for a while now.
00:19:56
I think there's a few caveats.
00:19:57
Obviously, um, the bulk of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers team.
00:20:04
It has been together.
00:20:05
Obviously the, you know, big difference being Tom Brady and, you know, obviously draft picks.
00:20:09
But that's something that every team is dealing with.
00:20:11
So I'm trying to think of unique situations where you know they're big changes that that may still not like you said.
00:20:17
I mean, Tom Brady doesn't really need preseason.
00:20:20
Now. He's been working with his teammates.
00:20:22
Um, and this preseason was probably the most important of his career, or at least the most important one for a very long time.
00:20:30
Just because of, you know, trying to play for a new team for the very first time.
00:20:34
So but at the at the end of the day, it's Tom Brady.
00:20:37
I'm not gonna work, you know, like people appear in New England, you know? Still blame missing three days of O.
00:20:43
T A's as as why the Patriots roster was was crippled with entries throughout the season.
00:20:49
But you know what's gonna be blamed this year? I don't d A's preseasons.
00:20:53
I mean, you know it's gonna be It's going to be interesting that if Cambio comes in or Cherot comes in and they perform well, uh, you know, What are you going to say? Well, they would've performed better if they were opiates, you know? You know Ah, you know, it's funny that not not a single person is bringing that up is like how important it is that that teams are missing O T.
00:21:12
A s you notice that it's fun. It's funny.
00:21:15
It's funny that, you know, when it when it doesn't necessarily.
00:21:17
Uh, there's no reason to because you know Tom Toms not there anymore or and you know there's There's no reason to don't tell him this he Boston that well, that this Well, there's no reason to smear your cross town.
00:21:29
Your ah, your interstate.
00:21:31
Ah, rival in another sport.
00:21:34
I probably saying too much here.
00:21:35
I really shouldn't.
00:21:36
You know, you were gonna be positive.
00:21:39
We're gonna be Oh, yeah.
00:21:40
I always said you admired the positivity will be positive.
00:21:43
All kidding aside, Yeah.
00:21:45
Brady is not the guy I'm worried about, even even.
00:21:49
But like New England, I mean, the one caveat being is you have to work in a new quarterback, and that's the one uncer*****y.
00:21:55
But, you know, you feel a little bit better knowing that you have a quarterback now, presumably, who will be healthy.
00:22:02
And like I said, I feel like if he's healthy, he's the starter, and I don't think it's relatively close.
00:22:07
Um, Cam and Cam Newton.
00:22:09
So I think that the Patriots are still a really good team.
00:22:12
It's just we're just uncer*****y at the quarterback position for the first time in a very, very, very, very long time.
00:22:21
Um, because you always knew what you're going to get out of Tom Brady.
00:22:24
You never went into Well, I mean, if if you're a reasonable you never went into the off season thinking, Well, what do you gonna get out? It's Tom Brady fun.
00:22:31
You know, there's obviously some blowhard, um, you know, up, up north that ah certainly will push that narrative.
00:22:38
But the reasonable and intelligence football sports fan will look at and say, Look, you don't worry about Tom Brady.
00:22:45
You worry about what's around them.
00:22:47
What? You know what else this team has to work on, You know that's not there anymore.
00:22:51
There's gonna be a difference.
00:22:52
But again, you still have the best coach in the league.
00:22:54
So you're gonna feel good about the Patriots.
00:22:56
Like you said, you're gonna feel good about the Ravens.
00:22:58
You're gonna feel pretty good about the Chiefs.
00:23:00
And, uh, you know, these other teams that are just again, well, coat.
00:23:04
So that might give them a leg up, which which is great, because as a Patriots fan, I like that, um and, uh, you know, we'll see it ultimately, how it, um you know it unfold.
00:23:15
I mean, it may not even matter, You know, at the end of the day, we make main are too much Stockett.
00:23:20
Now, though, it's true we and it might be.
00:23:22
And at the end of the day, that could end up being the very that could end up very well being the case.
00:23:27
The thing that worries me a lot with teams is teams that are working in new coaching staffs, You know, like you said before, it's one thing to work in a new quarterback.
00:23:35
It's one thing to work in new players, but when you have a new coaching staff and you're trying to get the most out of these players you need is many veterans, as many grounding forces in those locker rooms as you possibly can.
00:23:47
Ah, lot of times with teams that have new coaches come, new players come new identities.
00:23:53
I'm thinking immediately of the New York Giants and Joe Judge.
00:23:56
This is a guy that, you know, has the Patriots experienced? No question about it.
00:24:01
Much for are battle tested and ready than maybe your average new coach.
00:24:06
But at the same time, there were guys in that Giants locker room that were used to Pat Sherman last year, and there's a lot going on there so that that's a team, like a team.
00:24:15
I'm not saying just keep an eye on the Giants, but keep an eye on those teams folks and how they progress and how they come out of the gate in the season, the other white off in the room that no one I think some people are talking about.
00:24:27
But I think needs to be talked about MAWR is the likelihood of injury, the likelihood of sloppy football starting off in September.
00:24:36
Ah, lot of that ring rust for lack of a better term gets knocked off in the preseason.
00:24:43
They're gonna have that this year.
00:24:44
So conditioning is gonna be very, very much key.
00:24:47
Trainers are gonna be in the spotlight keeping these guys not only healthy but in condition because they're gonna need to be gang tested and they're gonna be going full out.
00:24:55
The first legitimate and competition that they face all season long is gonna be regular season football.
00:25:01
A lot of these guys don't used to that and it does.
00:25:03
It's a different mindset.
00:25:04
You see, players play differently.
00:25:06
You see them cut routes differently.
00:25:08
You see them accelerate differently.
00:25:10
They're gonna have to start playing that way in training camp.
00:25:13
So, you know, you just hope that they're able to, ah, stay healthy because things can happen sometimes when guards were let down.
00:25:20
And as much as you can simulate a game action in inter squad games, it's just simply not the same.
00:25:27
Sometimes the feel is not there, and it can lead to difficulty.
00:25:30
So again, I know I'm Sana negative.
00:25:32
I don't wanna be.
00:25:33
I wanna be positive folks.
00:25:34
But the's air just things that are on my mind.
00:25:36
And you have to wonder, what's going to happen is the season does progress.
00:25:40
Yeah, and and again, I mean, these are always going to be concerns moving forward.
00:25:44
You know, you can't sit there and be naive and pretend like they're not going to be that there, there, it's gonna happen.
00:25:49
But, um, you know, well and again, another great point.
00:25:54
The injury factor, I think, has kind of been put on the back burner a little bit because they're just so many other issues and concerns.
00:26:01
But, you know, we see Excuse me.
00:26:05
I can't stop yawning.
00:26:06
Focht. I apologize. I can't.
00:26:08
I've tried my heart.
00:26:09
It's the hold, the back.
00:26:10
But, you know, it's just it's gonna happen.
00:26:12
So ah, but we've seen in the past players that have, you know, whether it was due to not playing in preseason games and just going out and playing and getting hurt early on in the season because they're not in the right conditioning, you know, we'll see.
00:26:25
I mean, I'm sure teams and coaches air going to adjust.
00:26:28
Ah, you know, their training camps to to, you know, add some some extra, you know, stuff like that to to make up for not having a preseason game.
00:26:40
But But, like you said, Ah, you can't, um you just can't simulate that without actually planning.
00:26:46
And, you know, this is true for most sports.
00:26:49
You just can't, uh, you really don't get your footing until you actually play a game.
00:26:54
And that's something that the teams are gonna miss.
00:26:56
But, you know, this could this could favour the veterans big time.
00:27:00
Real big diving again, the best players in the league.
00:27:02
This is not only are they generally the highest paid, but, you know, they're also, you know, been around the block a few times and know what's going on.
00:27:11
So, uh, we got to take a break and I'm gonna I'm gonna give you a little teaser And I'm gonna tell you when we come out of break, I'm gonna tell you why the Chiefs Chris Jones is turning into LeBron James and not in a good way.
00:27:27
That's right. We'll be right back.
00:33:02
I'm Yeah, that's right.
00:33:07
We're back.
00:33:08
Mike e had to pull that one out is the first thing I saw it.
00:33:11
I was like, Well, it seems pretty perfect.
00:33:13
So Ah, I said, coming into the breaker, going out into the whatever before we talk to commercial break, I said, Chris Jones of the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs is turning into LeBron James and not in a good way.
00:33:28
And And folks, we talked about this a little bit last week where you know, the dynasty with the d word that we talked about the dynasty word that just gets thrown out like willy nilly, you know? Okay, you win one Super bowl of Sun and you have the potential to win 27 in a row and be the greatest thing ever.
00:33:45
Uh, no. OK, relax, guys.
00:33:47
Everyone needs to pump the brakes.
00:33:48
We've seen it with the Eagles to CNN with Seahawks.
00:33:50
We've seen it with the Broncos.
00:33:51
We've seen it, you know, the list goes on and on and on and on and on.
00:33:54
Um, so, of course, naturally, the Chiefs being the, you know, the good, perhaps one of the most there hyped up teams in recent memory if if you know what I'm saying, like, I think it's a combination of just utter exhaustion and eagerness for for the Brady Patriots era to end, which which it did, Obviously.
00:34:17
But obviously Brady still in there.
00:34:19
There's this just obsessive need to have someone else dominate that conference.
00:34:25
And look, the Chiefs air it.
00:34:27
You know, put all those factors together and they're just a a height machine.
00:34:31
Ah, people of they, they want to hype it.
00:34:34
So that's what they're doing.
00:34:35
And you know what? The Kansas City Chiefs players they're buying into that height because this is a quote from from Jones.
00:34:40
He did it on a local radio station.
00:34:42
Um, and this is reading right from it.
00:34:44
So it's not paraphrased paraphrase.
00:34:46
This is only the beginning, Jones said.
00:34:48
We plan to have another parade and another parade and another parade.
00:34:52
We're going to make sure we bring not one, not two, not three, not four, but five plus rings to Kansas City.
00:34:59
It's been 50 years of waiting, but the wait is over.
00:35:02
Now it's time to create a dynasty, and I'm adding this myself.
00:35:09
This is when the dynasty died.
00:35:11
Thats offseason, the any any, you know, in that's the thing.
00:35:15
This type of mentality is great, and it's great for sound bites.
00:35:19
It's great for that rah rah in the locker room, all that stuff.
00:35:22
But we've watched what the Patriots have done, and there's a reason why it's never been done before because there's such a dedication to not saying anything, not giving bulletin board material keeping focused solely on your job that, you know the Chiefs have already far surpasses.
00:35:41
I don't think I heard the Patriots talking about this after Super Bowl.
00:35:45
You know, the first Super Bowl win, How many? I mean that this is kind of a recent phenomenon because again like I said, we've seen it with the Packers, Aaron Rodgers and the Packers.
00:35:53
They're gonna win 10 Super Bowls in a row.
00:35:54
Boat, the Seahawks their greatest defense ever.
00:35:56
They're gonna win 16 Super Bowls in a world.
00:35:58
Um, the Eagles will fly Eagles, Fi.
00:36:01
It's been 50 years, but the Eagles finally win a Super Bowl.
00:36:04
Well, guess what? They haven't won 10 in a row.
00:36:07
So let's just, like, relax a little bit.
00:36:10
If you're a fan, you gotta pump the brakes and realized it's not easy to do this.
00:36:14
And if you're Chiefs players like I mean to me, there's just far too many of them kind of buying into this, and it's like, Yeah, you know, I get it.
00:36:22
You know? What are you going to say? Of course you're well, we're gonna win.
00:36:24
We wanna win.
00:36:25
But I don't know if I'm a chief's fan.
00:36:28
I'm sitting there in the back of my mind just saying Shut up, Just going Super Bowl, you know, just let's let's see what happens.
00:36:35
Because again, I mean, we brought it.
00:36:38
Our I brought it up last week.
00:36:40
It's not like this team just steamrolled through the playoffs.
00:36:43
You know what I mean? It's not like they they're so far away, in ahead of every other team in the league that it actually makes so well, maybe they will win.
00:36:52
All these know, it just it doesn't work that way.
00:36:54
So yeah, it just it drives me nuts.
00:36:57
It drives me nuts.
00:36:59
Yeah.
00:37:00
I mean, you know, the whole thing, in a nutshell, is talk will only get you so far.
00:37:03
Look, I understand it.
00:37:04
And where? Like minded.
00:37:05
When it comes to this, I understand wanting to be optimistic, and I understand being confident in your ability.
00:37:09
Look, the Chiefs have a talented team.
00:37:11
They got a very good offense, one of the best offenses, maybe arguably the best offense in the National Football League.
00:37:17
Their defense is pretty good, wouldn't put them in top tear echelon.
00:37:21
But I would say that they're solid solid enough to win you a Super Bowl without any question, they could win a Super Bowl with that defense more than enough town.
00:37:29
But to be able to do it and I think they've upgraded a little bit, you know? So I mean, it's it's a It's a fair assessment to say that this team is capable of winning multiple Super Bowls, you know, on paper.
00:37:41
But look, you really pinpointed something that I think not enough people give credit for, and that is how difficult it is to win a title in the National Football League each and every year.
00:37:53
It is hard work, folks.
00:37:55
It's not easy that the most talented teams sometimes can go out there and underperform.
00:38:00
It's there's so much involved in being able to compete and win a champion Chips to sit there and to be cavalier about just saying we're gonna rattle off this, we're gonna win 12345 Yeah, it sounds great.
00:38:13
The nice little sound bite your fan base buys into at the K C.
00:38:16
Barbecue sauce is going all over the place, and everybody's hyped up.
00:38:20
But the bottom line is, is it's a lot tougher than it looks, folks.
00:38:23
Ah, lot tougher.
00:38:24
Trust me.
00:38:25
I've covered the New England Patriots Now, for a few years I've been a fan appears all my life.
00:38:30
20 years of sustained excellence is not easy to do.
00:38:34
They do it because of coaching.
00:38:36
They do it because of preparedness.
00:38:38
They do it because there simply better equipped to be able to handle the rigors of an NFL season than most other teams, not saying the Chiefs can't do it there.
00:38:50
Of the best coaches in the league and Andy Reid, someone who I respect tremendously in terms of his ability to lead in terms of his ability to get the most out of his players and in terms of a strategy.
00:38:59
I mean, he is one of the best you know to do it.
00:39:01
But at the same time, you can't just think that because you won one Super Bowl that you're already in that dynasty conversation, you're absolutely right.
00:39:11
You didn't see the Patriots do that after one Super Bowl, first of all, because it wouldn't be allowed.
00:39:15
Second of all because the players that were on that team understood the rigors and the difficulties it took to get to that level.
00:39:23
They're not going to go out there and shoot their mouth off and guarantee it.
00:39:26
We had, you know, Teddy Bruschi, basically, you know, going up and down media row, saying we're taking this one game at a time.
00:39:33
We're taking this one game at a time.
00:39:34
He even said it at one of the post you know, season, um, parades that Patriots did have.
00:39:40
Next year, we're going to take it one game at a time.
00:39:43
That's the message you want to convey, because it shows that you're buying into each individual game, taking one game at a time.
00:39:50
You start looking too far ahead.
00:39:52
It's a recipe for disaster, so Chris Jones can talk all he wants to.
00:39:55
That's fine.
00:39:56
He's got confidence in his team.
00:39:57
That's great.
00:39:58
He's got confidence.
00:39:59
Is a noted, is his own ability.
00:40:01
That's great. He should.
00:40:02
He's a great player.
00:40:03
But understand how difficult this is gonna be.
00:40:06
Don't treat it like it's some sort of foregone conclusion that because your quarterback and throwing no look pass and the media absolutely fawns all over itself to, ah, praise you, that does not make you a winner.
00:40:19
What makes you a winner is dedication, game in and game out and being able to beat the team that's across from you.
00:40:25
The Chiefs are in a position now.
00:40:27
They've got the target on their back.
00:40:28
They're no longer the hunters.
00:40:30
They are the undead.
00:40:31
When you have that target on your back, it makes you a much more vulnerable team in so many more ways and good luck to them this year because they're gonna have a lot of competition that I have a lot of teams that are hungry to unseat them.
00:40:45
And there were 31 other NFL teams that have them in their cross hairs.
00:40:49
So, uh, let's see if you can hold up.
00:40:51
You know, the Patriots did it for 20 years on, and I don't think they're ready to relinquish that title just end either.
00:40:58
They're gonna be in contention.
00:40:59
The Patriots gonna be one of those teams hunting after the Chiefs this year.
00:41:02
So we'll see.
00:41:03
We'll see what happens.
00:41:04
They did it for 20 years.
00:41:05
Let's see if the Chiefs can do it.
00:41:06
Let's think of it this way.
00:41:08
Do you think that the 2019 Chiefs are better than the 2013 Seattle Seahawks? Uh, well, two different teams.
00:41:17
No, no.
00:41:19
Lets you know.
00:41:21
Yeah, Two different teams do.
00:41:22
I do, I think, a better spot to rattle off.
00:41:26
Ah, well, no, no, no.
00:41:27
I'm saying I'm saying if you were to put ah, the Chiefs head to head with the Seattle Seahawks in 2013 because, you know, Seattle rightfully got a lot of hype because of how that defense was built, how good that defense was.
00:41:43
You know, when when you talk about some of the best defense is in the last 10 20 years, that is gonna be right up there near the top of that discussion, if not at the top.
00:41:51
So, um, I think Seattle was a better team coming out of 2013 after winning a Super Bowl, like a far better.
00:41:59
Maybe Mahomes was a better quarterback than Russell Wilson.
00:42:02
I mean, that that can be debated.
00:42:03
But at the same time, I think Seattle would just better across the board.
00:42:09
So again, this is just kind of hammering home the point that it's just not that easy.
00:42:14
And, like, I just I don't understand.
00:42:16
I don't know what has given people, um, the idea that it iss you know what I mean? Like, there's no like, I understand people like, say, Oh, yeah, I'm gonna do this.
00:42:25
I'm gonna do that because, you know, a lot of people do it now and like a Okay, whatever.
00:42:28
It makes sense.
00:42:29
You know, it's a realistic thing, but it's just doesn't happen.
00:42:33
You know what? I feel right? So, like again and people take it with, like, you know, a serious like Well, you know, I couldn't read in an article I was reading.
00:42:40
An article in pro football talk is like, Well, you know, if they do this, well, then you know the best quarterback now will clearly be the best ever.
00:42:48
And if this and if that and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, it's like Jesus like let's talk about the now let's talk about the moment with Let's stop like projecting and creating these like, fantasy like situations at this point, because right now that's that's all it is.
00:43:05
It's just a fantasy, you know, if it's does start to come to fruition in If 345 years from now, all of a sudden there's a couple Super Bowls and and and things are starting, then you can.
00:43:16
Then you can start projecting.
00:43:17
Then you can look at it.
00:43:18
It's like I said, You don't sit there and say if if If a quarterback those 11 touchdowns in the 1st 2 weeks of a 16 game season, you don't sit there and say, Oh, yeah, he's gonna throw 88 at the end of the season.
00:43:30
No, that's not gonna happen.
00:43:33
And no one in their right mind would ever say that they would sit there.
00:43:35
Be like, Oh, yeah, technically, he's on pace.
00:43:39
But, you know, let's let's let's react.
00:43:42
It's like, Oh, yeah, I know they've won one Super Bowl.
00:43:44
Ah ah, Out of in the last two years, they've won one Super Bowl, Which means in the next 10 they're gonna win five.
00:43:52
No, that's not how it works.
00:43:53
So I don't know. Maybe I'm good.
00:43:55
Maybe I'm just a little bit annoyed today, and it's just bugging me.
00:43:57
I know, I know.
00:43:58
I don't think you're just a little annoyed.
00:44:00
I think you're making great points and look, you're making valid points.
00:44:03
You ask the question about why people believe that or why people would buy into believing that it was so easy to create a dynasty and to sustain a dynasty in the NFL or really, of any professional sport.
00:44:16
But the NFL more so because this is a lead that is designed to discourage parody.
00:44:22
And for the last 20 years you've had a team that has been able to a dominated their division without any question.
00:44:28
You know, I think there's no question in that they pretty much dominated the conference.
00:44:32
You could make the argument that they've dominated leaks.
00:44:34
Sixth Super Bowl championships in 20 years never been done before.
00:44:37
And in my opinion, it will never be done again because of the fact that it was so difficult for this team to be able to do it.
00:44:44
It took so much of an effort from so many people, not just Tom Brady, not just Bill Belichick, not just Robert Kraft, all of them working together in tandem to be able to create the dynasty that the Patriots have sustained for so many years.
00:44:58
But you ask the question.
00:44:59
The answer is because the flavor of the month has to change and it comes from the media.
00:45:04
Naret People are sick of seeing the Patriots a year after year after year after year, going in deep into the playoffs, making deep playoff runs.
00:45:13
There was elation last year when the Patriots made their exit on wild card weekend.
00:45:18
People absolutely were deliriously happy that they would be able to see a conference championship game without the New England Patriots.
00:45:25
It's the first time for for the first time in 10 years.
00:45:29
But of course, it's gonna happen again.
00:45:31
You know? Absolutely.
00:45:32
And you know.
00:45:33
So this is it.
00:45:34
And right now the Kansas City Chiefs pose that best option for them to be able, tow, unseat this team.
00:45:41
Don't forget, we're looking mid year last year.
00:45:43
Patrick the homes goes down with his dislocated knee.
00:45:46
All of a sudden, the Baltimore Ravens are rambling through the league, and they beat the New England Patriots right before their bye week.
00:45:53
And really, I think, hammered that home that this was going to be a different year.
00:45:57
It was a different team.
00:45:59
The Ravens were the flavor of the month for a better part of last year.
00:46:02
It wasn't until the Chiefs made their run in the playoffs that everybody jumped back on the Kansas City bandwagon.
00:46:07
You and I talked several times on FBC Radio Live last year, there about the Chiefs possibly being on the outside, looking in when it came to the playoffs.
00:46:15
If Mahomes didn't come back and they had to sustain and go a long period of time without end, so it's really again that drinking the sand mentality.
00:46:24
I keep coming back to that.
00:46:25
But it really is.
00:46:26
They will want to drink the sand.
00:46:28
They don't want to know the difference.
00:46:29
They want to believe in the narrative.
00:46:31
They want to believe in that narrative that's gonna take the Patriots out of the national spotlight and put somebody else in it.
00:46:37
The chiefs of the most deserving team to be there.
00:46:39
And this is not a knock to Kansas City at all, folks.
00:46:42
It's a knock to the narrative and the expectations that are being put on their back.
00:46:46
And, you know, if that's coming from within, that's gonna be on Andy Reid to put a lid on that and say, Look, I believe in the confidence I believe in bleeding in your stealth.
00:46:55
I believe that you guys need to feel that way.
00:46:58
But it's another thing to go.
00:47:00
Grab the microphone going on social media and declare that to the world, because that puts a lot of undue pressure on your teammates that they simply don't need.
00:47:08
You can say it's puritanical all you want.
00:47:10
Lane Johnson, conscription, Tilly's blue in the face about the Patriots, not having any fun.
00:47:15
Patriot Way works.
00:47:16
20 years of excellence is something that they've sustained for a while, and it's nothing in the field and anybody else or they made more plays than anyone else yet that, logistically, that's true.
00:47:29
But the behind the scenes training, the behind the scenes mentality of this team has allowed it to sustain that.
00:47:35
If you start gak in your mouth every two seconds, it's a recipe for disaster.
00:47:40
You may not think so, but it does have a negative effect on the guys in that locker room.
00:47:44
Even if it's on a subconscious level and it can, it can really cause some difficulty.
00:47:48
So if I were Kansas City, I'd be urging my players to keep their mouth shut right now.
00:47:54
Let your play talk, let your play do the talking on the field, don't have a lot of talking behind the scenes.
00:47:59
It can come back to bite you and come back to bite you in a big way.
00:48:02
Yeah, and exactly that's and that's the thing it's like, eventually you're gonna have to cash those checks that your mouth is writing.
00:48:10
And, you know, we talked about the Patriots casually going to 10 straight a f C championship games.
00:48:17
But like I mean, you know, and that's really what's happened here is that the Patriots have desensitized people's toe winning.
00:48:26
You know there's in This is the big issue, too, and it's it's not exclusive to the younger crowd, because way see dopes like, No, I want to say that I'll stop there.
00:48:35
I don't want to insult anyone.
00:48:37
Personally. I That was not my intention.
00:48:39
I just think they're they're football opinions or dopey, so I'll just leave it at that.
00:48:42
Ah, but you know, you see a younger crowd that has grown up literally.
00:48:46
All they've known is watching the Patriots so well.
00:48:48
Of course, that's gonna happen every 20 years.
00:48:50
Well, no, it's not.
00:48:51
It's not like, you know, one team win six.
00:48:54
And it's like, All right, here's your you know, we're handing you the mantle, you know, Here it is.
00:48:58
Here's the baton.
00:48:59
You go and you win six or seven now, because that's how it works.
00:49:01
No, it zits, not how it works.
00:49:03
Um, is there a team out there that may go out there and win a few Super Bowls? Absolutely.
00:49:07
I mean, their teams really good teams.
00:49:09
Really good runs come and go.
00:49:10
But like we're talking about Ah, you know, again, the greatest run in NFL history.
00:49:16
It's it's just not going to get dumbed again.
00:49:19
A Who knows, Maybe we'll be wrong.
00:49:22
Maybe down the road 20 years from now.
00:49:24
Still doing the show, of course.
00:49:25
Ah, we change our mind.
00:49:27
And, um, you know, a team goes out and wins 67 Super Bowls in a row.
00:49:33
I don't know.
00:49:34
I just again.
00:49:35
I just don't see the I think the Chiefs are a really good team and probably the best in the A f.
00:49:40
C.
00:49:41
I mean, you have to give it to him.
00:49:42
I mean, the Super Bowl champions, but I just don't see them. Aziz.
00:49:46
Clear cut.
00:49:48
Favorite like if you think about the Patriots run.
00:49:50
Obviously, having to go up against Peyton Manning of the Colts was always their biggest challenge.
00:49:55
You think about the other best team of the first half of the two thousands.
00:49:59
What do you think? Pittsburgh, right? Not even close like they were.
00:50:03
They were the probably 1/3 best team for the majority of 2000 to 2010 and they weren't even competition for the Patriot.
00:50:13
That's what we're talking about here.
00:50:15
We're talking about such a disparity and competition that, you know, your closest competition isn't even really competition.
00:50:23
Because, you know, after a while, how many times did you go up against Pittsburgh? And just I mean, I would never, never, like, break a sweat against the game against Pittsburgh.
00:50:32
You know, a F C championship game.
00:50:34
I'm like, You know what? This is great.
00:50:36
I'm gonna kick my feet up.
00:50:37
I'm gonna relax.
00:50:39
I'm not even gonna monitor my blood pressure, you know, because hey, the Patriots just dominated Pittsburgh, and I just I don't see that from the Chiefs.
00:50:47
I don't see that that they couldn't be.
00:50:49
I mean, yes, they beat the Patriots last year, but, you know, again, they couldn't beat the dynastic Patriots.
00:50:54
The Tom Brady Ah, in the playoffs.
00:50:57
Patriots. They didn't do that.
00:50:59
They didn't have to go up against the Ravens.
00:51:01
They didn't have to beat that team.
00:51:03
You know what I'm saying? So, like, I don't know, give it a few years, let's live.
00:51:07
Reevaluate that, and then maybe I'll change my mind.
00:51:09
But for now, it's just to me, it's It's former Chiefs fans.
00:51:13
I'm just in the back of my mind.
00:51:14
I got you know, it's like that mean where you have Thea the mask on but behind it? It's just the same face, but like crying and anger and everything like that.
00:51:24
You know, you you keep on a Yeah, right.
00:51:26
Let's go, Chris Jones, But in the back, your mind you like Shut up, Shut up, Shut up! Oh, yeah, without question.
00:51:32
And I completely agree with that.
00:51:33
That's something that I would be upset about if I'm a chief's fan.
00:51:36
If I'm a Chiefs player, I'd really be upset about it.
00:51:39
Because to me it's again your writing checks that maybe your body can't cash and maybe they can.
00:51:45
I mean, you know, nobody's saying Kansas City is incapable folks, I'm certainly not saying it.
00:51:50
I was impressed by what I saw last year in the playoffs.
00:51:52
This is a team that has the ability to run with anybody when it comes to putting points up on the board, and their defense has improved to the point where they could make stops when they need to.
00:52:01
So no one's saying they can't do it.
00:52:03
All I'm saying is, don't treat it like it's easy and I see a lot of that and I'm seeing a lot of that in chief's fandom.
00:52:11
I'm seeing a lot of that on the team.
00:52:13
Acting like this is just a foregone conclusion that the dynasty has begun, and now we're ready to anoint the new savior.
00:52:19
You've won one championship.
00:52:22
I quote Ric Flair all the time because he's simply one of the most quotable men ever in history, yet did it once.
00:52:28
Now let's see you do it again.
00:52:30
That's what you gotta have to do.
00:52:32
That's the mentality that you have.
00:52:33
You gotta have that chip on your shoulder that one time means nothing.
00:52:37
You need to now go out improve that you can sustain it, and you can do it.
00:52:41
You're not a one hit wonder.
00:52:42
I think Kansas City is better than a one hit wonder, but they have to prove it on the field.
00:52:46
If they have been talking, even if they are talking, they're not going to do it.
00:52:49
Even if they are better than a one hit wonder, it doesn't guarantee that they're gonna win more. That one super Bowl.
00:52:54
You know what I mean? Like an inquiry.
00:52:56
True, Kyle brings up as he does all the time.
00:52:59
You know, it brings up a great point that each decade has had a dominant team.
00:53:02
Now the Patriots were the dominant team of the two thousands, and 2010 is.
00:53:06
You know, it just so happens that it did span two decades.
00:53:08
But even if you break down what you know, say, the last decade, you're talking about nine a f C championship game appearances in 10 years and you're talking about 15 Super Bowl appearances in 10 years? Yeah, And then, you know, even in this season said they didn't reach the Super Bowl.
00:53:26
Like I said, I mean, they were in the Final Four or you know they again.
00:53:30
They finished in one of the with the top, one of the top records in the league.
00:53:34
They just happen to get bounced early against the Jets team.
00:53:37
So, you know, we're not just talking about a domino because, like other teams that dominated decades didn't have nearly this good of run, not even close.
00:53:47
You know, maybe if you go back, I I would have to really look into what you know, like the Browns in the fifties and stuff like that, or like even I'm sure the Packers, if you know relative t there to the competition and what the league was like then may have had a similar type of success.
00:54:00
I I just can't speak to that.
00:54:02
Kyle can probably to me and if he wants, But, um, yeah, so it well, say, we'll see what happens as a non Chiefs fan and someone that obviously is the Patriots fan and wants Don't doesn't want to see the Chiefs win because it's usually at the, you know, it would be at the expense of the Patriot not being able to win.
00:54:18
I I love this.
00:54:19
I do.
00:54:20
I love it like eat it up because, like, you know, not only are is this my pain you're gonna come a backfire, but you're also going to get, you know, the dopes of the dopes out there.
00:54:28
I like I said, I'm not gonna name names here.
00:54:30
Um, but you know, the national media folk that just just fun over anything that comes out of Kansas City, Missouri, you know, like I mean, it's just it's the greatest thing since.
00:54:43
Well, anything ever.
00:54:45
So we'll say.
00:54:46
We'll see how it goes.
00:54:47
I'm sure we'll be monitoring it And picking up any quote we can and tryingto give anyone out there.
00:54:52
Bulletin board material.
00:54:53
Um, but yeah.
00:54:56
So my kids were just about done for the data.
00:54:59
So this flu by I'm not gonna lie? Yes, it it absolutely flew by, you know, killed some time, had some laughs and converted that.
00:55:07
But but But in any case, folks, Yes, my, my abroad, I want Internet actually held up decent enough for us to get through an entire show, which is great.
00:55:16
So I'm like, I was concerned to start.
00:55:19
I'm not gonna lie.
00:55:20
I was concerned that I would have connected to go.
00:55:22
We were We were on right off the bat.
00:55:24
But once we hit the airwaves, everything clicked in.
00:55:26
So Ah, the radio gods were smiling on us today.
00:55:29
And it's always a pleasure to join you on the microphone.
00:55:31
You know that, Of course.
00:55:33
Of course.
00:55:34
So we're gonna have to say goodbye for the day.
00:55:36
I don't have any words of wisdom or any sort of insight.
00:55:39
Unless Mike, once they hit us with another fat.
00:55:43
You know what? I'm gonna I'm gonna pick something.
00:55:45
Okay? I'm gonna pick something.
00:55:46
You're gonna give me a fact about it, Okay? I'm thinking, uh, okay, tell me about give me a fun fact about Genesis Genesis.
00:55:59
All right.
00:56:00
Um uh, well, the last few years of Genesis six, Phil Collins not really picking on the drumming duties of, ah, Genesis, he wanted to become more of a front man.
00:56:15
Ah. Wanted Teoh become more.
00:56:18
That's why he had essentially, ah, ascended to a solo career.
00:56:22
But for a while, he had a reciprocal agreement with the band where he could go out to his solo stuff and then come back and play with Genesis every now and then.
00:56:29
That's why you saw Phil Collins come out with maybe two or three solo albums.
00:56:32
And then all of a sudden smack in the middle of that was another Genesis album.
00:56:35
He never really left the band.
00:56:37
A lot of people think that only split with them.
00:56:39
He went solo in, you know, Genesis broke up.
00:56:42
Yeah, they would temporarily break up a genesis, never actually disbanded, so Ah, if you think about the longevity of that ban in the career that they've had.
00:56:51
Phil Collins actually was able to pull the strings, but it came from him wanting to be a front man more than just behind the drum kit.
00:56:59
And it started when Peter obviously Peter Gabriel left and Genesis came, you know, But to Phil Collins for, ah, the front man duties, he was a little bit more than that.
00:57:09
So, yeah, so that's that's my fun fact about Genesis for the day.
00:57:12
I I love it.
00:57:13
I swear I speak about that as a former as yeah, as as a drummer.
00:57:19
Phil Collins is someone I hold in very high regard when it comes to that.
00:57:22
So I do know a lot about filling Genesis.
00:57:24
Well, I swear, folks, we did not plan this, but we're gonna only did.
00:57:29
I just saw a random things.
00:57:31
And, Mike, just you know, this is this is where all that useless knowledge is put to good use to help closers up, close our show out.
00:57:38
So, folks, we're going to say goodbye for the day and we're going to say, download the app.
00:57:43
Because I haven't said that yet today.
00:57:45
I can't believe it.
00:57:46
I'm gonna smack myself in the forehead but download the app.
00:57:48
Full press coverage on Apple on Google Play. It's free.
00:57:52
Might as well download it.
00:57:53

00:06:03
