Are you here? Yeah, we're doing a life.
Welcome, everyone to another week of the glorious nous that is training is absolute life cast.
I spend a week and 1/2 since we talked to you last.
So, um, a little bit's happened in that time, You know, the world shut down.
Well, at least the state of New York shut down of the world is a different place and there's no sports.
So, you know, this should be a great time.
Yeah, it makes it really easy to talk about sports.
I mean, in reality, this past week and 1/2 has probably been one of the weirdest week and 1/2 of anybody who's alive on the planet right now, like there's obviously a few if you if you're up there in years.
There's been some things that are definitely more noteworthy than this, but for all of us in this, you know, 40 and under crowd that it's probably tuning in and watching us.
Uh, this is the system were times and this is a different thing.
You've not had any sports league shut down for a non labor thing in ever.
I'm We've hasn't world Siris delayed, but we've never had seasons just put on hold.
Since the world wars, I doubt there's been anything.
Even then they found replacement leagues like, yeah, you know, I've watched the league of their own.
Speaking of which, that immediately brings you directly to Tom Hanks.
Which brings you to the Corona virus? Yeah, it's a thing.
I am in New York City, a new heavy self isolation with my wife and very rarely going outside.
Steve, you're in central New York, which is in just a CZ much lock down mode or a little bit less lock down mode.
Um, should be in Justus much realistically.
Justus, Much like Wegmans parking lots are 1/4 full lake.
There's no one on the roads.
My buddy was down at work the other day.
I work down at the National Grid Building there, and it's normally a extremely packed intersection.
Right near there.
zero cars, just ghost town.
So on one on one hand, it's It's a very good thing that people are taking this seriously.
And another hand.
Dave, it's depressing.
Yeah, I think This is what really sucks in the lens of sports right now is that this should be a really exciting time.
For if you're an M B a fan.
If you're a college basketball fan, this is what you live for.
And it's at least in the case of college basketball, it's just not happening.
You just missed the best weekend in sports.
Yeah, there it just didn't happen.
Which man? I literally took the Thursday and Friday off forever.
Go with my carry over vacation days, and it was like I was ready to sit down and no nothing.
And then New York even did the shutting the bars down.
So I couldn't even just go to a bar and pretend to get drunk or pretend to watch and get drunk.
So no, uh, every year I find out what day Syracuse is playing and take that day off because I know if they're playing a day game, there's no chance I will be functional for that game.
Um, so it's just it's a thing.
And this year I was at home.
I was not off of work, but I wasn't home.
So Tran to juggle, uh, you know myself and my wife working at home with the little guys like it's interesting.
Yeah, that seems to be the common refrain that I'm getting from a lot of people is that, you know, working from home if you don't have kids is very different than working at home.
If you have kids. Yeah.
So it's ah, all you out there who are trying to do this work life work from home balance thing, you know? Good, good.
Tia, I'm not there on the bright side.
Since I haven't left my house, I was able to review the Syracuse.
Sure, I'm dying s a i C a union football helmet, which looks fantastic.
That was my actual Blake.
That was my helmet from playing.
Equipment room, Steve way.
We're supposed to end up with those, but we did.
Um, yeah, I found digging through all my boxes from moving in and that from over the years found like, my mellow, autographed champion the S I championship.
Um, issues there those air like, authenticated, mellow signatures that I got off of eBay on a spirit up, like back in the day when, like, a 4 a.
m. And time was the thing.
And I happen to be in college.
And I was up and drunk at the time, and I got three of them for 30 bucks.
So I have to come up there, and I traded one away for the Michael Jordan starting lineup thinking it's over there to one of my buddies dead.
So I was like, All right, I could do this.
This'll is the most college basketball talk that's been out in the air waves all week.
If you really want to go deep, I've got a Lawrence Moten rookie card up.
Lawrence Martin birthday. So Yeah.
Good timing. Yep.
Get actually two of his classics cards that were him in an issue jersey, and then one of his Grizzlies spur key cards.
Heaven Tom Thomas Warriors.
Her Wizards game used with his signature and, uh, my Dwight Freeney eight by 10.
And, yeah, you were heavy collection.
You know, when you don't live in a shoe box in the earth, you say, this is I'm looking at my comic long box that is now next to my bed because there's no place else to put it, but that was That was the first thing I did was take all of the comic books out of finders and throw them into a long box.
And I've still got 23 inch binders full that are of the runs that I'm actively collecting.
And then everything else fit into a long box.
And then, yeah, this is this is this is the big lot of busywork that's keeping the keep you occupied at this point in time looking.
And this is why we run the comic shop on Fridays to Yeah, exactly.
Lots of reading.
I'm so much reading, but yeah, Speaking of comic boxes there.
So this'll speaking comics and other things that were impacted by Corona There will be no new comics distributed starting April 1st.
So this is the last new comic book day for the foreseeable future.
Which is I mean, man, they took away our sports.
They take away our comics, like we're really running out of things to talk about.
Yeah, but then Wolverine cover was worth every minute.
Yeah, it was a good one.
Oh, speaking of that for Friday, are you planning on, um, running on anything with the new mile.
Siri's on Friday.
Now, for this week's comics up, I didn't know if you were I don't know what you're submittal was gonna be.
So e Justin going up on the new miles around? Because I've been pulling since, like, issue seven.
But miss 106 so Oh, God.
You know, I, um no, I was actually, uh, I've been on a bendis kick, as as I mentioned before, but now I actually went back onto the Warren Ellis kick, and I read all of moon night, starting with him into, like, the new run.
And that is some of the most trippy amazing comic runs that I've that I've experienced.
I didn't I knew Moon nights like backstory and whatnot, but I've never actually read a movie Night comics.
So I never realized how screwed up moon night actually is.
And I was like, Yeah, it's Z plus, you know, it's gonna be so good.
And to say Moon Knight in Disney in the same sentence is very odd.
But I mean, yeah, that this is that I think everybody's, uh I think everybody's kind known this, but, you know, Black widow got pushed back Falcon on what your soldier production is now on pause.
And so today was the conversation where for those of you who don't know, I work at a trading card company that works with Disney and Marvel.
And today's e mails and conversations were all with people at marble just being like, Yeah, we'll let you know when you know, like you're when when we know you'll know and everything is kind of up in the air until at least the end of the month.
So that's probably being super optimistic.
Yeah, no, it's Yeah, it will be done by Easter, right? We can hope that it's all done by Easter, but I'm the realist who's realizing it's not gonna be done by Easter.
So, no, we're going to fill these with, ah, random throwbacks of looking at Syracuse stuff and venting about how this season was probably one of the weirdest in the history of Syracuse sports, at least in recent memory.
And not just It wasn't like it was just basketball or football.
It was across the board like everything was weird.
Yes, I was soccer had one of them.
They're more talented teams that just couldn't put it together.
Yeah, it wasn't this whole thing that they had, like, a couple of games where they like one.
There were they were winning upsets and, like, they were stringing things together towards the end and right.
And then they had, like, a couple of like, there was one game where move your meaty, uh, ended up getting there, like honor roll, making a combat looking awesome.
He gets red carded for nothing.
Sand yellow out of nowhere.
And you're just like, but they're they're gonna win this game and like, that was kind of that every time they got to the point where they were gonna get pushed over the hump, something brought him back.
And it was always something stupid.
That probably couldn't have happened. Her shouldn't have happened.
And it just yeah, it just wasn't meant to be.
And obviously, football Following up a 10 win season with a remarkably disappointing five win season, Uh, basketball, barely, which now looks crazy.
But they barely eked out a winning record to keep Jim Boeheim's no losing season streak intact.
Right? Uh, And then, of course, in natural fashion, both men and women's lacrosse, that's like look like absolute power houses as they should be to write the world and in their seasons are cancelled midway through, right, Let's let's get the plane.
We're gonna completely walk to Memorial Day weekend and then not have a morally weekend.
Yeah, I mean, that is who has one way to just end an entire season of Syracuse fans pulling out hair? Well, I think I think I mentioned to you before the pod like, uh, jam band always talk about stupid games.
This is the definition of the stupid season.
Yeah, like there's there was nothing that could have gone right.
There is nothing that could have gone wrong.
It all just went.
It was just like what? What? Any time you thought something was the issues that football is turning it around and the news and the best of all turning it around that that school is gonna be horrible.
And then they go on that little run on day, fall back off the cliff, and you're just like, what? What's going on? And it wasn't even into your point to the men's soccer, which really kind of guessed that the tone for all this is that it was never in a.
With the exception of basketball in Louisville game, it was never a situation where they got beat badly.
It was the situation.
We're like, Okay, football that be bad by Clemson.
But they still have a solid record and they still very winnable.
The conference late coming up and then, like the NC State game happens, Well, it was a stupid game match.
Yeah, and it's so you look at it then, like that kind of a game where it was.
Syracuse could have very easily won that game.
But, man, they did everything to lose that game, which was then followed up by the pit game, which they look so much better and still did everything they could to lose that game at home.
But full ends by that point.
Then the B C game happens where the wheels fall out and then and then for basketball was the same thing.
It's like we're doing fine.
We have the role, we have the slide down where you're losing close games against good teams.
You still slowly start rebounding and then lastly, Hughes gets hurt and you lose games that you shouldn't lose and then you win your A C C tournament game and the term it gets cancelled, right? And then we're like, Okay, you know, we're gonna have a good off season like we've got a really deep squad.
Everything's happening, Lake.
All right, You know, maybe some guys can make a couple of steps.
You get brass ball back, you get Carrie back, you get Washington bag, you get everything going for you, and then we'll fall off and everybody decides to transfer.
Yeah, let's talk about that a little bit, because we that's probably honestly, the biggest piece of news right now.
Not just in for Syracuse, but for all the college sports.
There's over 200 players entering the transfer portal on call in D one college basketball.
There's lots of movement happening.
Not necessarily at the power five level, but for Syracuse.
Uh, that entire bench is basically gone now.
Elijah declared for the draft, and he probably not declare for the draft.
He's going to enter the process, which, for a junior with his **** three out, not yet back.
There's nothing a gains.
If he's going to get picked up, there's nothing to gain from coming back.
Yeah, especially for a guy who's older and what It's just not just a grand sense here.
Didn't sit over a transfer like he's 22.
There will be 22 Lake.
It's it's time if he's gonna go.
And I know that.
I think I think I mentioned it to you before.
There was a point where I broke down, everybody leaving early and in zero cases outside of Harris and even Dorf just because they weren't picked first round from there was no point where anyone made under 1.
78 million like, Yeah, if you can make 1.
78 million go make 1.78 million.
If you could go make 1.
78 million and you've already got your college degree, right? Go make 1.
78 million and you've done everything you're supposed to dio like I'm not gonna fault a guy for for moving on after he did literally what is required of a student athlete at like the base level.
So yeah, it's it's tough.
But to the point like that was what we were ready for.
I think everybody was emotionally ready for Elijah to leave and for us to figure out a way to make all these guards kind of work in some way.
We saw it towards the end of the year behind, using a lot more, um, of the guards off the bench, and especially for me, I love the way that Howard Washington was being used is kind of like a change of pace guy.
And once he got the confidence to kind of be a little bit more aggressive at driving, he was a slasher.
Good, really compliment.
Both Buddy and Joe, who wanted to be shooters, like having a shooter and a slasher makes a ton of sense and rather just having two shooters up top.
And it also dressed bling efficiency of the defense.
Yeah, I mean, that just is a given.
And now everybody's gone.
Except for Jalen Carry, the one player that everybody assumed would definitely be gone.
He's the only one that hasn't publicly said that he's going to transfer.
So what was her wash breast? No brass.
Well, didn't carry it sounded, didn't he? Uh, everybody Brazzaville was.
So what was funny was that far as well was the first name floated as like, he's thinking about transferring.
And then everybody else just got news dumped into Oh, they entered the transfer porter like they're actually in there.
And then Brass will just has yet to actually go into the portal.
So I don't know if he will.
At this point, it seems like it's a little maybe a little late in the game.
But again, the game is weird at this point.
Like I don't actually know how that works.
Isn't like he's gonna be able to report that campus.
Right? So we've got Howard Washington who has yet to announce where he's going.
Was the original person went in? Yes, the 1st 1 in.
Yep. And good eyeing.
There's a report I know that James Kind talked about, like, look no good.
He went to, um What was that for? Evidence? Yes, he did.
I thought for a minute was gonna be seen Hall, But no, he went to Providence yet.
Pulled that one out of No, But you were.
It actually wasn't my phone, but I want checked weirdly left.
Yeah, I was gonna say it was a Big East Global forever in my head.
I had it at Seton Hall, but it's not because no, that was.
That was because Tory and Thompson is transferring away.
Yes, there we go, along with Matthew, another former Syracuse player, Matthew Boyer, who was transferring out of Vanderbilt, Um, who have transferred into Vanderbilt from Syracuse, some Syracuse.
And now he is at George Washington here.
So not not George Mason.
That George Tone.
Yeah, that Georgia Southern Georgia.
Yeah, I'm just I'm gonna stop him there.
Was there so much This was a weird every pretty much at all these names that you heard of and we're associating with Syracuse.
They're all moving except for jail and carry.
The one that we all thought was going to be all right.
He entered the portal, Yes, but he hasnt declared anywhere.
Yeah, because that's the way the current presses work.
So you can enter the portal.
You can much like what it is currently with the draft, you know, you can declare that you're going to go through the process.
And if there's no offer to lake or anything like that, you can come home.
Yeah, So worst case scenario is that the guard depth for Syracuse next year is Joe Girard, Buddy Boeheim and the Fresh Mint.
The incoming freshman who's named their relation.
Good. Very good, Eric.
It's not Quincy.
It's good. Very, Um, those are the guards.
The feds are all three of them.
That's always Quinta Gary Running the two.
Here is a possibility I was gonna say, cause than the other players on this roster.
Hui, I think people would feel comfortable playing our Quincy.
Gary, eh, Merak and Marama.
So, Merak, a point.
Uh, hey, you know you're serious? Yeah.
Yeah, I He's the only guy I have a team that can pass.
So what the hell you might It's swell.
We've seen him around the break.
Oh, man, it's gonna be next year's team is going to be so weird.
Huh? Like this is going to the antithesis of everything.
Jim Boeheim is done for the last eight years.
Yeah, they're not gonna be good a defense.
There's no length.
Canary is probably Here's Here's the thing that's like like not melting my brain.
But if, like constantly a screwdriver getting thrown into the spokes of a bike wheel is that when you look at the two guards and you've got Joe and Buddy it up top, Khodary comes in and is a prototypical Jim Boeheim guard and the D the zone and everything he wants to do.
Well, look so much better with Kandarian It? Yeah, 66 guards like if Jim Boeheim isn't creaming his pants than I don't know what's wrong, but we But it's Joe and Buddy who he was so loyal to this year, and Richmond's A, too.
So it's not like he's benching buddy over him.
Exactly, because Buddy can't shift to the one.
Yep, with your it's like, Okay, you know, you can play some, too.
It's it's fine, but he's not running the point.
So if Richmond comes in, it's strictly for body.
Unless we go small and ****, buddy to three, which also takes away some of the issues with him and his lateral movement.
But then where the heck do you put it? Quincey.
Quincey at the Forum A record five like to be fair, you go a full small lineup, which behind hates to d'oh like Jay right with that lineup, Jay Wright is screaming his pants, and this is the thing that just is, like Boggle my mind for next year.
Is that because in in reality, Jalen Carrie coming back and being the one makes way more sense than having Joe and Buddy and Canary fighting away Thio equally split through, just split the minutes three ways.
Well, yeah, because if that if that happens, you have Richmond either red shirt or play that, too, and swing like he could play a good swing. Three.
Yeah, but it's 66 I'm assuming I haven't seen much of its game, but, like just size wise, he's not gonna be out of place out on the wing, um, buddies able to shift down there.
But, you know, it's I mean, I just I don't know where to pull buddy, and it's that, actually, it's It's funny cause reading through, uh, Dave Stone did the whole He did the guards this, and he put the forwards out this week as faras there today as far as his season recap, and you're just sitting there thinking because he gave it an offensive, a defense and overall grade, it's like for me.
He he went kind of late because for me, but he's like a solid, you know, a minus B plus on offense and then a straight like D D minus on defense.
And do you keep it on the floor? What do you do with them? And, like, I think I definitely think there's a way to keep him on the floor.
I definitely like the idea of transitioning and Maur into a three rather than a two.
Look a true wing three and let, uh, you know, Let him either float kind of float outside or run that baseline.
Yeah, like a less like a like a less athletic James Southerland, like something like Someone had a lot more athleticism to his game, where he was able to, like, just make more happen.
And but he was never a great defensive player.
I don't know Boeheim ever want and like, but that was never his role.
His role was to come off the bench or play the majority of the minutes.
But be this light, be the engine of the offense to Lake.
Listen, if things aren't going the way we needed to, you're going to like just be running around and trying to get bad matchup so you can shoot over people or get a bad matchup.
So that way you can one pass somebody and two buddies.
He doesn't look good when he's driving, but he's effective when he's driving.
So I'd much rather him, you know, have the ability to do that more than when he's playing the two and actively looking to plant his feet somewhere and then take a shot like the only times that he was driving was when he was effectively playing some kind of hybrid one role because Joe or Washington was in and didn't really know what to do with the ball or we're bringing, you know, covered on defense.
Yeah, I mean, I can totally see him sitting down at that three like you're talking about Sutherland and making that old baseline run that he did to the other side.
And if that's not open, just continuing that curl into the that nice little pocket that he found to be very effective.
I mean, right around the free throw line he was, I think, statistically the best shooter in mid a C. C.
Yeah, so if you can find a way to get himself into that pocket, sure.
And it would be a big improvement just in terms of opening.
Like, because the big problem that I think everybody sees with giant neon orange lights is that there's when you're losing Elijah, you're losing the offense.
And this team could not win and could not score without Elijah in the lineup.
So, uh, they did the one game they like caught lightning in a bottle.
Hey, it was a one Gerard went off for not not the big game.
He went off where they still got smoked.
Um, this is really good. Really good.
I know, right? I think I think it was the pit game because that was the game where Elijah sat out.
Like most of you know, that was Did Buddy get hurt in the picking buddy? Money gotten hurt? Pick game.
I might be confusing my injuries.
It's been it's been somewhere between, like, three days and like, seven weeks at this point, so I don't know, it seems like the C suite.
So long ago, I really died of something like a week, and it really does.
But to that point, there's, uh you need to find a way to get scoring and like I love Quincy's game.
But, like Quincy could not shoot the three to save his life.
So having Quincy be a three when you know that he's not like any time that he was posted up in the corner, I think teams just stopped going out and trying to cover him.
Knew he was going to break it, which that's fine.
But so, like, imagine you slide buddy down there and you let Quincy play the four where he's not going out that far, and he's playing more than inside game.
I think I think it opens things up a lot more on offense.
I think it definitely makes them better on defense.
The only problem is, is that you have you're going to get destroyed by like a Duke or North Carolina.
That's going to bring in an actual, you know, athletic four or five.
But that was the same problem with this year's team, so, like I don't see a difference.
I know you and you do that well, I mean, this year that happened and we weren't able to Plato any strength whereas if you if you adopt it and you just commit to it, then I mean, yeah, but they're gonna shut down x and Y, but they're still not gonna shut down your primary option.
Yeah, so I don't see what that LF I mean, so it's so far off and they're still like this is again.
This is, um, taking into consideration that we're assuming that Carrie's gone.
Um, what she might not be and to ride everybody.
Jalen Carrie was the starting point guard at the beginning of the season.
That doesn't mean that he's gonna immediately get the starting job back next year.
But he at the beginning.
The season at the beginning of the season.
Jim Kara, Jim Boeheim.
Right? Jim Boeheim dealing.
Carrie was better than Joe Gerard.
So I just want to remind everybody of that.
And I'm not saying that that's still the case, but I'm saying that at some point in time, that was a thought that Jim Boeheim had.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it is still the case.
From an overall standpoint, though, Joe might be the better offensive player.
Yes, I you've known me long enough to know that I will stand defense until the day I die.
Listen, this is why I, uh this is This is why it's so much fun.
Thio, get on these calls and chat because we get to get nerdy about defense.
Well, speaking of defense, uh, looks like the Orange football team just received their first commit for the class of 2021.
So, Terry locket out of Springfield, Mass.
In the sense that first commit all that.
Even more awesome in the sense that he is someone who used to well, still does work out with Christian Ferreira.
Eso Christian Ferrera, who was a d lineman for the Orange back in the What was it? 4003 99 99 was his retro year.
So 99 2000 doesn't want Yeah, 4003 was the years he played.
Um, he, uh he's a strength and conditioning coach in Western Mass, and he's apparently this kid got an offer, and I guess I would assume Mr Prayer put in a good word for me, huh? The orange program.
So I think At this point, I think we kind of already talked about this in a previous episode.
But it bears repeating that Syracuse should really be going hard after these Northeast recruits.
That might not have not be talk options for Penn State or Pit Um, and we're getting offers from Boston College in Yukon.
You know, Boston College is in a hell of a transition, and we open the season against them this year, which I think is looking prime for a win and what would normally be a coin flip game.
And what I think it's still closer to 50 50 than anything else.
But like I think it favors, the orange and Yukon is just a rock hurtling deeper into the center of the Earth.
That doesn't look like it's going to stop any time soon.
Which 100% means they're gonna be this the next time we play them, right? I mean that that home and home series that John just loves so much is just screaming for something down by the law of Syracuse that's going toe.
I mean, it actually will never hear the end of by any of my you can fit inference I have a friend who works for you.
Espy Nation bloc And it's it is the conversations that we have whenever this Syracuse versus Yukon Thing come up are just so annoying because one it's the freaking national championship thing for basketball always comes up, and I have.
There's no defense, but for football he is.
He's king of the galaxy brain.
Take that you call him.
Being independent is better for the long term growth in Syracuse in the A C C, which is a galaxy bring.
I immediately shoot down and then he brings up that you call this somehow scheduling better than Syracuse.
So right toe, which I know it.
Really? Yeah, there's nothing there now you can't You can't over to one takes their Yeah, it's not good.
It's really frustrating when you Khan is going to get to go to a bowl game before Syracuse and they're going to be 100 points lower than us and S and P somehow Speaking of which, Bill see, hating s apparently is tied to numerous things, but, uh, were somehow only returning nine guys.
Yeah, so this was this was something interesting that Kevin pointed out in our noon slack.
It was, I don't think it was David Hale, but it was one of the other cultural pull guys at ESPN, Um, who tweeted out like the returning production for the A C C.
Based off the starters returning in Syracuse was at the bottom of the list with nine, which Kevin immediately went.
That seems wrong, but depending on how you define returning starting talent like it does actually work because there was so much shuffling along the offensive line all season.
Um, depending on how you looked at the runningback breakdown, we lost our number one running back.
We're losing the number one receiver, which means that most of the offensive production is not coming back but again, plucking place system for the most part with, you know, well, it also anyone who's from an offensive standpoint, and we watched the program actually not watch the program.
The old movie about Florida State without saying it was Florida State.
Your program is in Syracuse football program.
Um, anyone who's watched the program basically will understand that the whoever is next man up running back wise.
No offense to Moe is going to fill those shoes adequately.
I'm pretty sure it's gonna be Abdul Adams who was a five star.
You know, at one point we went to Oklahoma, so Yeah, well, and he may be in name only because look at how Jor Jordan was playing.
I love that kid.
I mean, if you could go for your nice with those two I like.
Okay, you give me some split back options.
Give me some of that, like pistol formation with, uh, with the two of them behind Tom.
Media's, like swing options or whatever.
Like I wantto know, creative stuff.
Give me Give me old school Elmore and those two in the backfield and just ****ing stupid.
Just get stupid.
That's all I'm asking for.
Well, I do miss those days, so maybe through ah, maybe through Adam's out.
Jordan out of the wing T.
Why did I listen? There's a kid.
You ready? We're in in high school.
Get the playmakers onto the field.
I think, actually, that conveniently sitting right next to my, uh, uh, desk, the you 1002 union college playbook.
Hey, listen, They won't be still using some of those same place.
You know what? That's fine.
Oh, I mean, it's actually really fun that you brought a football.
So banner society.
Steven Godfrey, who is one of the big football guy over there.
He does the instagram for Olds.
You send in an instagram a question.
The answer is that, like 5 a.
When his kids wake him up the next morning.
And so I asked him a question.
That's when I actually get them to it's It's Listen, if you I'm I'm there because in my way that my body works is that if I have been drinking the night before I wake up, it's six in the morning whether I like it or not.
So it's a rather unfortunate trait that I've yet to shake.
Um, but I just like something the question be like, S and P hate Syracuse, do you? And he led off with it, and he brought up a really interesting point that I really hadn't considered, which was that Dino needs to show some offensive ingenuity or the next step on his coaching evolution this year because it's pretty apparent that that middle tier of the A, C, C and below has kind of figured out how to play fast because everybody's playing fast in the A C.
But we're not like it's not like Syracuse is this unique gim****.
The you know, within the years that Dino Babers has been hired, so many other coaches in the A.
C C got let go and so many athletic directors have the same idea, which is, if we want a rate rise up from the bottom tier of the conference toe like that mid seven and 584 realm, we should get a guy who coaches fast who does X Y and Z Nation.
But as a result.
Now you know that Floors, as we saw with ease to see this year, that that gap between Clemson and everybody else grew because the gap between everybody else at the top and everybody else at the bottom just shrimp out and became a gelatinous glob of everybody doing the same stuff.
Yeah, I I actually noticed that kind of covering some of the the ladder games of the season where you go into these games expecting, Hey, this is gonna be a matchup of two distinctly different teams.
I mean, look at that, You and Wake.
And then the whistle blows and they're trying Not a lot of the same stuff that we are.
You're like, OK, this is just not where we expected this game to be at all.
So I don't know.
It's ah, like he said, every every athletic programs kind of adapting the wear where the college games going.
And, yeah, she was good to get in on the original Babers train.
But people are starting to kind of come around to it now, too.
And you know, Godfrey's thing was that he didn't like a lot of the recruiting that was going on.
Just it wasn't at elite enough.
Level two say that if unless Dino and the coaching staff does something new and unique and different this year that you know that the recruiting talent isn't there and I don't get it and we're not gonna sugarcoat that definitely isn't.
And it's not like we expect the recruiting talent to suddenly be a top 25 level, but that we've talked so much about what Sterling Gilbert and, uh, you know is going to bring it just in terms of No, he isn't papers guy, but he went off on his own like maybe that is more of an important step than at least I was giving, willing to give in the sense that he hasn't been, you know, with Dino every step of the way.
He started with, you know, and then went off and did his own thing.
Now, at the same time, they do like if you look at USF blocks from last year or anything, um, you're gonna see a lot of very similar complaints.
Ah, lot of way too many runs up the middle, I think, from what I can gather from on and I haven't another way of time, I'm probably gonna go back as dumb as it sounds and watch us f game film because I'm a safest.
But why not? But the the difference that I'm seeing is instead of a lot of the Mr Action that you were seeing out of Babers offenses like original, you know, you're looking at traps a lot of guard, entire blocking a lot of tackle, following up on the whole down, blacks across the front.
You're gonna be a little more straightforward under Gilbert.
But it's going to still be a lot of running up the middle, which I am not a huge fan of in it.
You've got space outside, utilize it even if it's wrong.
Yeah, and I think I think that's the thing where I'm more frustrated because I remember.
And of course he did it.
But Hoya stocks went off on some rant.
I don't believe it was last year.
I think it was during the Rembrandts weapons.
I know right, and he does it.
But he also rants about them in like, very intelligent ways.
What captivated? And you just you feel like you actually learn something from his ranch, which I don't think anybody said about mine.
Yeah, but he was going on about how Dino Babers is.
Speed system is not just about, like running fast.
Make the defense confused.
It's running fast and running so many plays toe open up space in the middle so that you can run basic plays to the extent of I can now turn this basic play that we could never run against a superior defense into.
I can run this basic play, you know, 10 times in a row and you're too tired to confuse, to spread out, to be able to do anything over it.
Because either you stop us in the middle or you give us, like the easy, you know, option in space.
And I feel like at least in up until outside of the years when we had when when we won 10 games and we had done Ji a quarterback.
We've never really had an offense that was either adaptable enough to run that whether it be in intelligence or whether it be the fact that our quarterback was a literal madman, um, or in play design, where that's actively what they're trying to work towards.
Okay, and I think that's the most frustrating part about last year's team with the bad offensive line is that what we saw towards the end of the year, when things improved was that they were able to have a run based attack that was able to utilize some space because of the athletes that they had and because the veto is capable when he feels confident and when he's not fruits to hell out, he's able to make that quick decision of either do I keep it? Do I hand it off Or do I hit the guy in the flat, right? If he's got a time, he could make a right read.
Um, and the air Pio is definitely a big part of this.
But at the same time, you know, once, once it's online improves, and I distinctly, you know, you know, I'll defend this offensive line way more than I probably should, um, outside of certain players which are now no longer with the program.
But, um, yeah, that I don't know where I'm going with this.
The the ability of that line to protect Vito will be a distinct, um, change into videos play.
I'm pretty sure we're going to see a very, very composed DeVito next year.
Um, well, you know, I say this under normal cir***stances, where you're getting a full spring to work with them, a full August came to work with them, like, get the guys comfortable in front of you, so I don't know.
I don't know where that's gonna go.
One thing is, it looks more and more like this.
Um, conceivably rule in August here in April is going to pass so that one time transfers will be eligible immediately.
which is also retroactive to anyone who transferred in the 1920 season.
So Chris Bleak, who came in from Florida, would immediately be able to slide in four Evan Adams.
And then you have five returning starters.
You know, one of them started at Florida, but you have five returning starters on the offensive line, and that's much, much different than last year when we had to and one of them out of position.
Yeah, and to your point, I mean, it's great to like be talking about all this speculation.
Get Nexus knows we broke up a great point until this larger global issue is kind of taking care of with where we are and how New York State specifically is going to be handling the Corona virus stuff.
We don't know what camp situation looks like for the team.
We don't know whether or not the season will get pushed or what the it like.
There is a very There's a very good chance that if these rules about no large gatherings and quarantining and self isolations, when what? Not if this continues into may like maybe the NC double A changes the practice limits and yes, there's less practice time but their practice and be together for more time.
Like we don't really know what this is going to look like other than we know that in terms of the NFL in the l.
A, they want to preserve that.
They're opening season timelines, but that could impact practice in literally thousands of different scenarios.
Yeah, um, the other thing you have to think about too is, um, as dumb as it sounds with all the current virus things happening from a local standpoint, you have don't construction.
Yeah, and we're with the curriculum with any of the Corona virus stuff, whether that will actually continue upon the timeline that it's supposed to be.
So, um, I mean, everything I've seen and heard is that it's still going currently, schedule.
Um, I don't know how that is magically considered essential businesses, but yeah.
I mean, okay, I'll take it.
Uh, if it's done by September 19th I would actually be quite surprised, but we'll see what happens.
Yeah, uh, it's I think I think this is gonna be really interesting to your point.
How this is kind of felt like it's been seven days, and it's really bear how it's felt like seven weeks when it's really been seven days.
Like the next time that we talk and the this entire landscape and everything could be entirely changed.
It's gonna feel like it's been another seven weeks, even though it's only been one week.
Yeah, so there's There's still so much that can change.
There's still so much that's yet to be just decided upon.
But we somehow were able to take roughly 45 minutes to an hour with no sports content and turn it into a Syracuse basketball and football discussion yet, which is what we do best.
It is the news vision way.
This is the way this is the way Steve, this was This was fantastic.
Always a pleasure, man.
Go wash your hands and go orange.
Yeah, that sounds good.
Don't go with that.
Wash your hands and go warn people.
Wash your hands and go orange for ah, for Auntie Em.
Steve and I thank you for tuning in
