Welcome back to another stream from Alex from unwrap sports here to break down Thursday night.
Thursday night football was somehow choke on that.
So to get started, this was a nail biter throughout, through and through.
It was a game between the two heavyweights in this division, you know, it was a winner.
Takes a division or winner takes hold of the division for the long haul of the season.
But as we kind of look at the game overall, Colt really ran the ball.
Well, I know that the Texans had been a rank 13th against the run, but the last three games they have been the 31st rated defense in the last three games against the run, something that, you know, I had thought was going to still be a factor.
And it was, you know, colts were able to get, you know, good production from Williams.
Good production from the mines.
I mean, it was it was impressive, their dedication to the run.
But I think that does kind of go hand in hand with my next point, which is the rusty play by percent.
And Hilton, you know, Hilton, you know it was kind of iffy on how is production was going to be.
It's his first game back after about three game absence, and, you know, he had three receptions for 18 yards, but he missed two clutch, third down receptions, things that I thought were very, you know, Ah, place he would have made if he would have been completely healthy.
His routes were buns.
Yeah, I know his His route running was not impressive.
He wasn't getting separation.
He definitely did not look like T.
Y Houghton at all.
And, you know, I think that was part of it.
I think he kind of rushed himself back a little bit.
This was a major game.
They were both at six and four, you know, This was for the division.
They already won the first match up.
Getting the 2nd 1 will really put them in a good spot for the rest of the season.
But, you know, other than that, you know, percent look very rusty.
Didn't look very comfortable throwing the ball.
I think that has a lot to do with, um, the way coach.
You know, he back when he played with Jim Kelly.
You know, he had a lot of emphasis on running the ball, and I think that's kind of what he was trying to give first set in this game by, you know, having the ball.
You know, out of the 1st 24 plays, 15 of them went to Williams, something that I think shows a lot of both comfort with knowing they have a running back who can produce and Williams as well as Heinz.
But I think a lot of it had to do with just percents, inability to kind of, you know, make a conscious read.
He definitely didn't look comfortable, you know, as he was making reads.
I mean, he was hitting his tight ends, you know very well, Doyle and the room where you know, getting in the middle of zone kind of, you know, taking what the defense gives them.
But for T y Hilton, it was just a very underwhelming performance.
I like I said, it's part part of It's got to be that he had been injured.
He had been, you know, maybe pushing it.
You know, he didn't really practice this week because they were on a short week from their Sunday game.
You know, he got involved in the non contact practices, but you know, T Y Houghton his whole game.
You know, he does have speed, but it's his ability to have great routes that kind of help him build separation.
And I just think percent, you know, struggle with that.
I don't know if Marlin Mac would have changed this game, because I think Williams ran the ball exceptionally well.
You know this This Texas defense has the ability to to be run stoppers, even though they haven't shown it in the last couple of games.
But, you know, for him he had 100 yard game a touchdown, you know, really did what he had to do in his in his opportunity to start.
I think that is encouraging for them because now they have, you know, four different running backs who, you know when called upon, you can really produce.
But I think for the Colts down the line excuse me for the Colts down the line, it's just Bruce Set had been such a key factor in their winds.
You know his ability to move around the pocket, You know, he didn't turn the ball over, but he just did not look like the Jacoby Brissett that we had seen all season.
I I mean, his offensive line did a great job, you know? He moved around the pocket very well.
I just you know, I don't know if it's maybe pushing off, you know, is this foot work when it comes to throwing the ball? But it just didn't look very sharp.
Don't know if that's, you know, him pushing it to try to come back, You know, soon.
I know he played last week, but he definitely doesn't look like the quarterback that you know had really produced the last couple of weeks.
You know, he was 16 for 25 129 yards and he did have a rushing touchdown.
He was able to pick up some gains through the ground for carries for 20 yards and that touchdown.
But other than that, I mean, if you look to pre game, you know, early in the first quarter, when they were kind of showing flash backs to the warm ups, he was wearing a really thick knee brace and I gotta think that that's got to be something that is very detrimental to his mobility, even though he did kind of well, but I think that also, you know, when you set your feet to kind of throw it, it definitely looked like he wasn't, you know, able to really get much going, you know, outside of E, Bram Doyle and Hilton.
You know, it was Williams.
The running back got a reception, and then Chester Rogers.
So, you know, Pascal really got, you know, zoned out of this defect, this offensive game plan, you know, the Texans defense, that a hell of a job.
You know, they have a great safety in the back with Eric greet with, uh, see what his name is, cause I know Eric Reid is on the Panthers.
It is does not come up, eh? You see, I looked at up, you know, they did pick up burning Hargrove's that have recently been released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
He played very well.
I mean, he defended two different passes.
You know, he really got involved early and often, and I think that hasn't shown to be a great part of their season is, you know, the way they've been able to really have the play that they acquire mesh into the mesh into the, um, the mix of to speak because they did trade for Gary on Conley from the Oakland Raiders.
He got in there and, you know, performed exceptionally well.
Got interception in that game, you know, you know, with car grows.
He came in, got in there and, you know, really made plays.
So when they traded for him, he came in, solidified that offensive line.
I think for the Texans, it's just been a great season of being able to take advantage of their new personnel and their ability to kind of push that to get them to the next step.
Now, the next point I wanted to bring up was DeShaun Watson.
He looked very cold, very anxious.
It kind of seemed like, You know, maybe it's the moment, you know, that that happens to the best of players.
But his chemistry with you know, Fuller and Hopkins.
I think this was one of the a few times I really said he'd seen him really connect with both of them.
You know, Hopkins is one of those great receivers where you can kind of put it anywhere near him and he'll figure out a way to get the ball down.
And Fuller has the ability to really open up a defense.
I mean, he had multiple receptions for that, were over 20 yards and you know he had is over 101 140 yards through the air, 51.
Being as long is, and Hopkins hats, you know, six receptions, 94 yards to tie sounds.
So he was able to really get the most out of his two best receivers.
And for Watson, I'm I mean, this is shows, you know, how effective they can really be when they're, you know, clicking on all cylinders.
They really took advantage of a cold and, for the most part in the first half, really kind of held the Texans in check, especially with the ground game kind of struggling as they only got 33 yards rushing in the 1st 3/4 And as it kind of picked up in the second half, it was, you know, the perfect balance to kind of help the running game back into get back into rhythm.
But you know, it was encouraging to see Duke Johnson run the ball well, it was encouraging to see, you know, Carl's hide back in going, you know, and both of these teams.
Z This game really altered the way that the A C South is kind of kind of breakdown isn't now with one game back, you know, Colts have the Titans that could be considered a game that they could lose.
Bucking the years you never really know what Buccaneers team We're getting the Saints, Panthers, Jaguars, all teams that they're going to be contests.
And for the Houston Texans, they have pickets.
Next week, Broncos, which you know I'll beat some conservative playcalling have shown the ability to really, you know, threaten the team, the Titans, the Buccaneers and the Titans again.
So still not over.
I wouldn't say that the Houston Texans have basically taking control of the A F.
C South just moving forward and you know that they have a bit tougher schedule down the line.
But I think for both of these teams, you know this game showed a lot.
You know, I I was very impressed with, you know, Shawn Watson and this this offense just that had struggled mightily against the Ravens defense.
Now that is a way better unit than the Indianapolis Colts.
But you know, cold Stevens has been very impressive.
You know, in multiple games this season, you know, they start off strong.
But for Watson, it was that resilience factor that really kind of elevated him into this position where he was able to really make plays down the stretch.
And I think for this game it was, you know, a lot was made of T Y Houghton having a second home in Houston, you know, with how well he's performed.
But you know him rushing himself back, you know, And the performance by Hopkins and Fuller really overshadowed that That stigma that had been attached to the Houston Texans hosting T Y Hilton.
But yeah, I mean, for there's gonna be a very interesting division to, uh, you know, look, look at down the line.
I don't think like I said earlier, I don't think it's gonna be something that you know.
It's gonna be the Texans from here on out holding the number one seed.
But I think this is gonna be a very interesting division to keep it out for keeping an eye out for.
And you know, for all we know, it could go down to the last two games in the way that they finish the season.
So very excited to see that very great performances by both teams games like this.
It's always kind of tough to see.
Ah, team loses because they both, you know, did what it took to kind of put themselves in a position to win.
But congratulations to the Sharon Watson and getting a much needed division victory.
And that is it for my dish on Watson Do Shawn wants.
It definitely looked very good.
I like I said, very, You know, this kind of performance is what puts you into the M V P discussion because you have to be able to come through when your team needs you most.
And he definitely did that, and I was very impressed with that last play of throwing, of heating it up just to the time runs out.
I don't know if it just hasn't happened in games I've seen, but I didn't even think about that.
And it's funny because, you know, you would think they'd be a great idea to just heave it instead of punching it in, giving them an opportunity to take another shot.
But that is it for this stream.
This is Alex Ribbon wrap Sports Thanks for tuning in.
