This is Alex from unwrap sports here to break down Week 11 Monday Night Football.
We had the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Chargers, pull out a last minute victory, 24 17.
Very impressive victory by the Chiefs to be able to hold on.
This was a game where, you know, the Chargers had the inability to finish drives, and it set the tone for the whole game as they haven't scored on their first drive all season.
And even though they drove up to the red zone and the first drive, they were held to a field goal, which, you know it's their inability to finish drives.
And that's kind of been the case for this offense all season.
Excuse me For the last four games, they've really dropped the ball a lot.
River rivers, trash rivers, you know, has been very inaccurate.
He definitely doesn't.
It looks like a shell of himself.
A Perry. Thanks for joining man.
Philip Rivers Looks like a shell of himself.
He definitely is making a lot of mistakes that I don't think I've seen him make before.
He has kind of been a gun slinger.
You know, He's definitely been a gun slinger.
Through his career, he's been able to win games, make make all these comebacks.
But you know, this season in particular, this charges offense has really failed to mess with Melvin Gordon getting back into the fold.
I think all this kind of tells you is, you know, this charges offense is gonna This whole team is going to go through A huge change is off season.
I think you know Lynn and Company.
You're gonna have to make some big personnel decisions, whether it's Melvin Gordon, whether it's, you know, a lot of other Keith keep members of the offense.
But something needs to change because this offense, you know, has a lot of tools.
But they're just not getting the job done.
You know, Philip Rivers has It's just been so disappointed in new quarterback.
Yeah, I don't know if the charges would necessarily toss it over to Tyrod Taylor.
I mean, maybe if there was an injury, but I think they, uh, Tyrod Taylor time.
Yeah, I mean, I don't know.
I I'm not sure what their quarterback deaf is to see if maybe they have a young guy to maybe look at, but to turn it over to Tyrod Taylor at this point, I think, would be a very peculiar change.
I mean, it be fun to watch, but I think for the Chargers I mean, this has just been a season of just huge disappointments.
I This offense had the makings of being something special early on in the season.
It could be Melvin Gordon kind of coming in and kind of ah may be altering the effectiveness of what the offense had prior because when they had a heckler going, you know, he was killing that he was getting getting it done on the ground, getting it done through the through the air.
I mean, Melvin Gordon had a key drop on that last drive where he the ball hit his hands and he was already looking to run.
And you know their mistakes that you know, you can't make it that point of the game.
But you know, Rivers definitely disappointing with his ah, decision making in this game.
It was definitely apparent from the get go that he was just continuing his inaccuracies through the air.
Um and that brings me to my next topic, which is Chiefs Defense steps up.
And in my some of my earlier streams, I started to say that you know how funny that all of a sudden, you know, once the once, you know, they're M V P the team M v P.
Patrick Mahomes goes down, the defense steps up.
I mean, it was against a Broncos team that was struggling at the time, but you still have to perform like that.
Doesn't performing against a bad team is still performing because, you know, we've seen it.
You know, teams haven't been able to shut down the Dolphins, you know, early on, like the Bills had their troubles.
You know, seals have the troubles, you know, it's it's getting the job done and and making it a statement Thio to close out.
And, you know, their defensive pass rush was great.
It was It was very impressive to see Frank Clark make a lot of those plays.
He forced that sack fumble, you know, a lot of mo mentum changing plays, and it definitely was crucial with the way that the charges were kind of going where they kept on cheese and that they were gonna break through and get a touchdown, but they just, you know, we're only able to get that one touchdown in the third quarter.
But, you know, I was very impressive.
This chief's defense.
I I know that they have been ridiculed and marked all season as being like the weak link of this team.
But, you know, they've show time and time again that they can come through when you know they need to get it done.
And in a very tight race with the Raiders, A B J. Nats 96.
Thanks for joining the Stream with the way that the tight race is for the NFC West with the Chiefs and the Raiders, Chiefs can't afford a dropping in these games, especially ones against you know, the charges.
You know, a team that has been very much underperforming, the defense had to come through and they did.
I mean, getting three interceptions are Philip Rivers, regardless of what it is.
You gotta me Like I said, you gotta make the play.
You gotta come through when it matters.
And I was very impressed with tyrann Matthew.
Even on that play, where Philip Rivers threw a touch passed over Derek over Matthew to get its Henry Tyrann.
Matthew made it basically have to be a perfect throw.
And that's what you want out of your defense you want.
You want them to force quarterbacks to have to make that perfect throw.
And I think it was just a testament of this defense starting to gel.
I've been a huge fan of Tyrone Matthews, and he wasn't Ellis you.
I just thought he had such a game changing ability when he's on the field and you know he's shown it on the Cardinals shown it on the Texans, and he's showing it here for the Kansas City Chiefs, but very impressed with him.
Very present with Frank Clark.
They got some pass rushers on this team, and that could be crucial for a team that doesn't necessarily have the most mobile quarterback anymore with Patrick Mahomes, even though he did kind of get out of the pocket, you know, got a couple first downs on some chunk plays, but you know, definitely not something you want to put your quarterback who's already hurt in a position and so great vic.
Great performance by the Chiefs defense.
It was it was ah necessary win in a moment where, you know, they allow the Chargers to drive all the way up to the red zone and were able to come through when it mattered most.
Now three key injuries occur to the chief's.
1st 1 was Tyree Cale, who kind of, ah, pulled up on a deep route going, uh, and he, you know, grab his hamstring and chiefs are on a bye week next week.
So it was a perfect timing if someone was gonna get hurt.
You know, it's never a good time to get hurt.
But if you get her right before the bye week kind of sets you up to, you know, have time to not have to force yourself back to early, you know, they need Tyree kill at full health.
But for the chiefs of if Tyree kill Mrs Significant Time Mako Hartmann showed he can, as he showed earlier in the season when Tyree kill had his shoulder injury, he can come through and have the ability to basically run the place that Tyree killed. Can.
And I do remember having a conversation with a friend of mine about Mako Hardman.
Prior to the season, I wasn't fully aware of him.
I just knew that he was a speedy receiver.
But, you know, seeing highlights, I mean, he and his performance this season, he has the ability to somewhat, you know, put up the similar production and placed out of the way that Tyree kill has.
So for the Chiefs, you know, if Tyree killers and go, you know, they definitely have Mako Hardman.
Oh, ran a 433 speedy receiver definitely up there with, you know, being ableto break the defense over the top.
And, you know, they do have Robinson.
So, you know, if Tyree Kettle is down for an extended amount of time, they do have solid options in the air.
The next two are there two running backs, which, which are LaShawn McCoy, who I believe left with a concussion after getting hit on a play where Mahomes overthrew him because of pressure and left him kind of wide open, where he got hit by Thomas Davis.
That's a concussion, I believe.
And if you know, with about two and 1/2 week time, you know, he should be able to get back.
You know Damian Williams? I'm not completely sure what his injury was, but they for them to be able to pull that victory out.
And you know Darryl Williams was able to get in the end zone and, you know, run the ball pretty well for coming in at that point of the game and really kind of pace in it, you know? I mean, he did averaged 3.
2 yards per carry, but in the moments that they needed him to get the first down, he was able to get it.
But if these three miss extended time, it really hinders them.
Because for the can City Chiefs leading into my next topic playoff pictures for both of these teams for the Kansas City Chiefs, they're currently 74 and their next couple games.
So let's look, let's look at their next four games.
They have the Oakland Raiders after the bye.
That's going to be a major game for them because even though they did put in a convincing victory against them in their earlier contest, this victory could be the difference between the Chiefs winning the A F C West because if they lose that game, they have a tough game against the Patriots.
Yeah, and after that.
You know, they do have the Broncos who did show this past week that, you know they can at times really perform.
You know, it's a question of their play calling.
It seems like, and then they have the Bears, which you never really know which tree biscuit you're going to get.
I know he has that hip pointer.
I don't know if that means it's gonna be Chase Daniel time moving forward.
But you know, you'd never want to slouch on the Bears team with a defense.
That kid, you know, come alive and they do face the charges again.
And I'm sure they're going to be coming back with a vengeance.
So those are, you know, tough sketch for them and, well, tough for the next two games.
That really set the tone for the rest of this season, because if they were to lose the next two against the Raiders on the Patriots, they're gonna be on the outside looking in to get the F C West crown.
Let's see where that lands them for the wild card currently.
I mean, she's have it, but that would technically be in position to get a wild card, but now you definitely don't wanna have had come to that.
So for them, chiefs were in a good spot.
You know, Hopefully, the bye week meant the perfect time to let those three players get back to health.
But for the Chargers, I think for all intents and purposes, unless they go off on a crazy street, I I would say you could possibly put a fork in them.
Wouldn't necessarily say that because, you know, that's why you play the games there.
Had they have their bye week as well.
They have the Broncos, Jaguars, Vikings, Raiders and then Chiefs to finish off their last five games.
I mean, for the Chargers that there are hot and cold team.
They were able to come out and defeat the Packers one week and the following week.
Just get completely surprised and over and outmatched by the Oakland Raiders.
So with the Chargers, they're very hot and cold team.
Not a team I would really have a lot of faith in.
And yet that is it for this stream.
This is Alex from unwrap sports.
Thank you guys for joining me. Have a good night.
