I think you're muted for the video.
So okay, so you're live on YouTube now.
I'm lucky I'm live right now.
Just play the what? In the lead up to the 1996 season, Syracuse was not only unranked, but not even in the Big East championship picture as star driven teams at Villanova, Georgetown and Connecticut were all in the preseason top six.
But the orange opened eyes starting 11 and oh, including Winds at number three Arizona and in the Hawaii Rainbow Classic.
The season's first loss came against number one U Mass.
Who would also make the 96 Final Four.
But the Orange played their best in the second half of the season.
Coach Boeheim made his first commitment to zone defense full time and the Orange 18 of their last nine regular season games, including a blow out of eighth ranked Georgetown senior point guard Lazar's Sims average more than seven assists per game, and senior forward John Wallace established a new school record for single season scoring while leading the orange to two unforgettable victories in Denver.
What's going on over time way? You should call it quickly.
If not, take it all the way.
They have a time out. Wallace way.
2.8 seconds left.
It was There's no intel over Syracuse.
E Theune fans jammed into the Meadowlands where the 15th ranked cues shutdown Mississippi State before suc***bing late to a Kentucky team loaded with pros.
Still, the 1996 Orangemen carved a special place into the hearts and minds of Orange Nation 20 years ago, becoming one of five teams in program history to make the final Four.
Hey, should be in soon.
Can you wait? Just just wait.
Well, hey, let me let me let me I'm not I'm not lying my mind yet, so I'm gonna go ahead and get over there and get live, so I'm doing my normal introduction.
Oh, everybody, man about to get started.
Esser Next family.
What is popping with you? Should boys sin? I'm here with leading the Knicks podcast, and you know, we're waiting patiently.
John Wallace is on the way.
So, you know, just, you know, stay, stay cool.
He's gonna be here.
Just a minute, man.
Don't get too anxious.
Don't get too anxious, GMO.
You know, it's just talk to talk until the until he gets in.
What's going on with you, man? So you got to do it.
So you got to do next band in the background.
I mean, you know, I have to do for my next door.
I'm getting some more bandage, man.
Uh, you know, my building has so called strict rules about what you can hang up.
But at this point, I don't live Here s O.
Yeah, definitely, man.
Everything is good, man.
Everybody's dressed up looking crazy on the screen.
You guys could be e.
I don't know how you so Yeah, it's a crazy.
It's a weird Halloween.
It's a weird Halloween this year.
You know, you gotta you gotta do Halloween through social distancing and all of that kind of stuff, you know? Yeah.
Thank you guys, for being on a Saturday man salute to everybody.
Man, this is, uh It would be fun.
Yeah, no doubt about it, man.
We might as well just talk some nicks until until he gets in here and was stolen.
Said the jacket is a banger.
Thank you. I wanted before.
I got a bunch of them.
I don't always wear next gear when I'm on.
But, you know, I had to do it today.
I couldn't let Gamow, you know, show me up with dope with the dope hoodies.
You know, e o dope hoody.
So I hadn't changed on something.
You guys, come on, You know, I mean something. Next.
I'm, um I read the article about Lemelle a ball, right? You know, just just, you know, until we get John here.
I read the article about Lemelle a ball and you know about him about I guess he's had one.
What is maybe 11 interview so far with the Minnesota Timberwolves? Maybe he's had a couple other ones, and I guess he's been happening.
You know, the interviews haven't gone well, you know, then I read today that levar is like, I even want him to go to the Knicks to go to Detroit.
Okay, England is he England and trying to make that happen.
That's That's Michael, is he England and trying to make it happen.
He's definitely England way.
I mean, I think is that Detroit, out of all teams might be the team that would be like, Hey, look, we down bottom to we're not gonna give you up your talent way.
Need as much talent as possible.
So you might be trying to safe land.
Uh, you know, impossible for if they do fall to the pistons.
Now, if you get past the Pistons, the Pistons of what? Fifth, I believe.
Yeah, something like that, I think holds his six.
Holtz wouldn't need him.
Seventh would be this before system office.
Just makes you number 70 sorry.
Detroit seven. Right.
So Okay, fifth with Cleveland.
Wouldn't need in my five because that Z already got Garland and ***ton would make absolutely no sense Charlotte could take it.
But if you false past Charlotte, then you've got literally a landing.
I mean, you could say Chicago Chicago will probably look at the melon ball, but they're in such disarray, I think.
They might be looking like we don't need any headaches at best.
I'm just saying that best they might still take a mellow because the next night they wanted to carry hacer.
They're looking for a point guard.
Um, if you get past Cleveland, it could be a crapshoot.
It could be a craps.
Okay, so All right.
So let me ask you if he if he gets, if he's down, he's at six.
Right? Do the Knicks do the next, then execute a trade to move up? He's at six.
And you know, because who's that speaking to? I was talking to somebody yesterday.
I was talking to somebody.
I don't think it was live.
I think we was having to talk.
And I said, You know, I think if one of those guys like bomb Ball specifically starts to fall in the draft and he's somewhere around five or six, the Knicks might say, All right, you know what has gotten execute that trait? So I'm not giving up any of those 2021 picks.
We ain't We ain't touching that stuff.
27th, pick the 27th pick.
So you would 20.
A lot of talent is gonna fall out by 27.
If you weren't gonna pick that if you weren't gonna pick a point guard at 27 you probably scrapping for point guard.
So at that point, if I got to trade my 27 pick.
So you're so you're trading your 27 you're trading your eight for the melon ball.
And then you still got that 30 Whatever it is 38th pick or whatever it is.
And maybe, you know, you consistently find a way.
Thio package that to move up and get them in the late first round.
Yeah, you know, uh, yeah.
Okay, that's what's up.
What's up, guys? John, what's going on, man? How you feeling? How you doing, man? Appreciate you having me on E.
Appreciate you, uh, we appreciate you coming on in and joining us.
Always ****ing the true make guys.
You know what I mean? That's it, man.
Okay, hold on one second. There we go.
You know what? Okay, Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome legendary Syracuse Orangemen from 92 to 96.
Former Knicks power forward John Wallace in the building.
We appreciate you, man.
Thank you for joining us.
You guys, I feel bad.
I don't have my e o step child.
That that wasn't one of the CEO.
Hey, you know what? Before we even get into something, I got something I need to get off my chest.
Andi, I've had it on my chest is, like 96.
You grew up in Rochester, right from the rock.
I lived in Utica from the end of elementary school until high school tells myself Yeah, alright.
And when I was living in Utica, somebody came through.
I was living in a place called Adrian Projects Adrian terrorist projects.
So somebody came through tall dude, super duper tall, and he was in the neighborhood.
He said, You know, I was asking around about playing ball against somebody, and, you know, people pointed me towards you.
Now I'm like, I think I'm eighth grade or something like that.
And and he said, I'll give you 20 points.
Uh, and we'll play the 21 I'm thinking.
OK, e get at least a bucket.
Right? We play boom.
I get a couple shots up, but they all get blocked.
They get blocked, they get blocked, I get one shot off and I miss it.
I lose 21 to 20 Right? Then we got tells me he's like, Yo, I'm from Rochester.
I got family here in Utica.
I'm going to Syracuse.
I never knew his name.
Then when you got drafted to the next, I was like, yo, was that John Wallace has been burning me for years since 90 states.
So I don't know.
I just felt I might as well I ask you, that sounds like something I would have done that.
That was my memo back then.
Give you 20 and go to 21 just to prove the different levels of the of the, you know, Yeah, playing.
Because you know, so many guys When when you you just watching the game? The game seems so easy because those guys were so good.
So I remember when I first got drafted and I'm coming back home or talking to guys at home and the guys were like, Man, I think I could be Charlie Ward or Chris Childs one on one, and I would turn around and tell him flat out they would beat you 100 Thio twice on Sunday, E realized the levels, so I used to do things like that.
Like that story you're talking about? I got a couple of guys back home and tell you the very similar stories going to 30 giving him giving him 29 whatever.
You know, just just a little deep.
Let him know like you see me, you're gonna blame and that he's nice, right? Right, s so I don't know.
It might have been It might have been you.
I'm gonna say I'm gonna say it with me.
You know, a right one shot.
I got off, I was right there, had a little mid range jump shot and I blew it on and I couldn't stop thinking about that e That's game over.
A matter of fact did tell me.
He said, Oh, you should have made that one does is over on.
And I think the score was like, I think it was around 20 to 15 at that time or something like that.
See that? Be like that, man.
Like I told all my old friends I used to beat up on on the basketball court or whatever, Leach, you also a eventual n b A guy like I could be telling it.
Kobe, I don't make the n b A.
I'm a mechanic or something with a high school.
Alright, it's alright.
We owe right exactly no shame in that at all, man.
No shame in that at all.
I do have a quick question, though, is like a because, I mean, you're talking about, you know, busting normal guys like us.
But, you know, when you're on the set of he got game, you had a Ray Allen Travis Best Walter McCarty.
Did you? Did you have any stories about busting them? One on one.
You wanna set? For how many hours? Hooper's right there.
I mean, you guys are all adventure, eh? NBA players prospects at the time? I believe so.
It was It Did you? Did you Did you bust any of them on the court? You give it to Jesus soda work.
At least give him, like, a hot 30.
Before you know, my resume.
I gave it to me in college.
I gave me, gave me something in an N b.
He gave me some clue, but on that set, why that movie was so good and why it was so like, you know, the basketball scenes.
None of it was scripted.
That was just a Brooklyn for a couple months, in spite taking bits and pieces of it without just us literally just playing who pick up ball.
No set plays, no nothing besides that one when he threw it off the backboard when he dunked in and pull the newspaper out of stock.
Other than that, everything else was just us straight hooping and getting it in out there.
Like, I mean, we was really getting it out of the projects, playing late night.
It was It was fun, man.
That's kind of all.
We all kind of grew up one.
So bring us back to our roots.
It was really, really fun.
But of course I was giving buckets out there.
E got next time you see all the n b a guys, car Lorries, giving me a shout out to other guys.
No, they do that. I got hops, baby.
You know what I'm saying? That movie And that was just ad lib because that would be I do got hot back then, E.
But, you know, just just scooping, man.
And, uh, you know, we were all like we all went out for the role of Jesus Shuttlesworth.
We all read for that road.
Get the other roads.
We got all the other ancillary roles that came.
But it was all about Jesus, Jesus, Shuttlesworth.
Everyone thought he, you know, he should have picked Stefan Marbury.
You know who's my boy? Close personal friend.
And obviously it's kind of depicted on him slightly, sort of, you know, the Brooklyn thing.
But I think I think Spike Lee picked the right person after you look at Ray Allen's career, and Stefan end up doing his own movie and doing this thing over in China.
But, you know, you know, you got a lot of backlash because he didn't use Stefan at the time.
But I mean, after you look at Ray Allen's career and the way that movie turned out for all of us, you know, I would have to say, You pick the right person.
Yeah, that's a great movie.
Yeah, you know what's crazy is like I ran into a day Miller, like, two years ago at the Garden.
You know, after the shoot around, I'm walking on and do my thing because I still work for the next, and, uh, I walked on the court.
He's just like, man, I was just watching that movie and it really just dawned on me like all the young guys today that they came up on that he got game movie that, like, that was their movie on And shout out the spike because Spike told me that, you know, give me Give me everything you got on every on every, um when every scene Give me everything Give me all in this movie pay you the rest of your life So, uh, you know, he definitely lived up Thio.
You know his word.
And every time I see him, I tried to tell him Thank you are buying something because, you know, I'm still getting checks every month for that movie.
Yeah. I mean, that's that's the way to do it. Right then.
That's the way Todo so.
You were drafted to the Nixon 96 right? Uh, Tom Thibodeau was there.
You know, we gotta bring out some Tom Thibodeau questions.
Tom Thibodeau was there in 96.
You play with the Knicks the year they made their finals running. 19 92,000.
What can you tell us? What do you remember about Tom Thibodeau? And you know, he's a e.
I was with Tom every day.
Coach tips every day because he was the rookies guy.
Dahntay Jones, Walter McCarty.
We had to be at practice an hour before every practice.
So Coach Van Gundy said, practice at 10.
I mean, the rookies had to be there at nine.
He only told you that the first day you had to learn that from the very first day.
He never repeated that.
So whatever time he gave, we had to be there in our earlier.
But when you got there, tips already there, working out Allan Houston, you already got Larry Johnson some shots.
And then he he came over to us with when you thought he just started because he had so much, you know, energy and, uh, you know, excitement about Let's get better today and we're going to get after it.
And that was time tips, man.
And, you know, I knew once he did become a head coach, I know he's gonna be successful because, you know, being around Van Gundy and people of that ill Hey, just learned how toe you know, attention to detail, ing do everything the right way and do at 100% and hold everyone has accountable is the best man on the team as the alleged, you know, 15th man on the team, you know, whatever.
So I think he coached everyone just as hard as the best guy on the team.
And I think that's just important to be a really good head coach.
And I'm looking forward to the next this year and the culture that he's gonna implement and and bring us back to that those those years were the Knicks for relevant every year, you know? Yeah.
Yeah, it's been rough a couple of decades, you know? Besides, you know, the mellow stent, Uh, you know, the mellow era, You know, when we when we've been in the playoffs, But, uh, on.
And it had to be a Georgetown guy that talked that Oh, my goodness.
Tell me, uh, Kamala, but that was painful.
Uh, can I ask you a question on that real quick? Uh, so Tom Thibodeau, obviously, he came from, You know, at least it seems like all of our favorite errors of knick basketball where it was tough.
It was no nonsense.
But now he's in a so called and not necessarily a worse but relatively soft.
The MBA, right? You know some of the hard nose coaches.
They kind of lose their voice.
And obviously Tom Thibodeau's had somewhat of a rocky road after, you know, really good years in Chicago.
Ondas never been down to really is excellent knows he's a good extent, old guys seems like.
But now you have this smorgasbord of, like coaches around them, Woody and those are the guys that picked up to put around Tom Thibodeau.
How do you think that's gonna translate with some of these younger guys? Because Tom Thibodeau, you know you can't you know, the whole George Car School of basketball.
Hey, just do what I tell you to do.
No, no complaints. Whatever.
That's kind of dying or dead versus now.
You have to have more of a softer touch.
So how do you think he's gonna translate with these so called younger, younger guys? A new MBA, which is a little bit more something than before? Well, I think I think there's gotta be a little bit, uh, uh, conformity on on both sides, like tips.
Gotta be willing to conform a little bit, I'm sure.
And you know because you know he's gonna change his style a little bit because today's player is a little different.
But today's players gotta be a little bit more receptive to some constructive criticism and knowing that you're getting taught by NBA champion coach, you know, and once you buy in, it makes it a lot easier.
That's just that's your life, man.
When you're when you're a player.
Obviously the management on you know, higher the coach that they that they feel can bring bring us toe where we need to be.
So you got to trust in the in the whole system and you gotta buy in, you know? And when you when you had seasoned vets him not came in, we had Ewing and all those guys start.
You have no choice with the buying by in or you weren't on the team literally.
That was not negotiable on There's not really the season invest around anymore.
That can come in like honestly you Donald has and what he did down in Miami because you're like, you know, talk to them during the playoffs and, you know, you found a little bits and pieces of it when he went off on him during the game, but he's doing that in the locker room at practices the whole year.
I know you don is very well, so that's we need, you know, if you need somebody to hold you accountable every single day to make sure that you're doing what you're supposed to do because the NBA is a grind and it's tough, the guys that come up and show up every day that put on their hard hat and bring their lunch bell every day.
Those guys that have the limo term success, you know, I'd like to think that during the nick time when I was there, you know, I came.
I was in New York and I left and I came back.
But all during that time, the Knicks were very, very relevant.
And it was, you know, Van Gundy built a certain culture that Tibbs was apart off.
So he's very a very successful winning positive culture because there's nothing better than winning.
It's hard, but it's nothing better than when you know it was easy.
But it's hard to accomplish this tough practices, you know, I remember a couple of times being like Wow.
I can't believe we just want and we're gonna We're about 3.5 hours.
Four hours, like van Gogh.
His saying was we're gonna be We could be here all day.
I don't have anything to do.
I mean, people for 24 hours.
So however long we gotta be here to get it done, we're gonna get it done, you know? Are there any players on this team this next team that you think are really gonna benefit from Tom Thibodeau? You know, maybe more than some single player is gonna benefit from time.
Thibodeau, just like every single player benefit, benefited from him in Chicago and in Minnesota.
You know, he he brought them to the playoffs.
That had been the playoffs for however long in Minnesota.
He single handily was responsible for not only drafting Jimmy Butler but filling the work.
You know, the necessary tools that make Jimmy Butler becoming a player that he eventually became.
That all started with tips.
So I'm hoping you can instill some of that, uh, Kool Aid into ah r r J Barrett and the rest of them, man.
I mean, I'm looking forward to it because you know those.
I'm sure all some of those guys we're working as hard as they could work.
They weren't a part of the bubble.
So that's a little chip on your shoulder on everyone's talking junk about the Knicks.
That's another chip on your shoulder on.
And I just hope guys hit the courts and I notice has got him in one thing.
They're gonna be in phenomenal shape, so they're gonna be in phenomenal shape.
And hopefully, when you're in that kind of shape, you're able to sustain Ah, higher level of playing, which will? Hopefully some of those tough loss that we had it in the game, Uh, last year we could turn those into victories.
You turn some of those victories, you're in the playoffs once you get to the playoffs.
Anything that happened the next, though on the eight seed I think still in history to make to the n b A finals.
So, you know, it just got man and I, you know, I'm a eternal optimist when it comes to my Nick.
So that's just where I'm wire something like if we just get into playoff, then let the chips fall where they may I trust and tips coaching and his what he's gonna instill into the players all year.
And, you know, like I said, the guys like R.
J, you know, knowing his father and knowing where he comes from that pedigree, I'm looking forward to him.
Proven people who said eh, Maybe he didn't have his good years.
They thought he had.
I thought he had a good year.
I think he's just gonna build in the year that he did have on.
I'm looking forward to that and Mitchell Robson and the rest of those guys, Man, just coming out here is on fire every night.
So, yeah, given, given that we I mean, the whole point about veterans, I think is extremely important, Uh, that you came into a situation where you got guys who knew how to win.
E mean, I don't want to reminisce about those next things, man.
It hurts to talk about them because it's just look at the team down, just like that's not what, Even though I'm an eternal optimist.
So everybody, John Wallace is basically in the next 45 minutes next year, so way put it on me just like Tim's put it on himself way.
Don't mind pressure because, you know we're gonna be prepared for it when we prepped for it when it when it comes.
You welcoming because you know you're gonna bust through it, man.
It ain't nothing that you can accomplish when you're superbly prepared for anything to come your way.
And that's the part of tips that you know.
I'm sure you got some of that from Van Gundy's just attention to detail.
Congrats to my man stand and getting a job down the pelicans.
But the Republicans, they're gonna be a detention.
Their detailed attention to detail is gonna be and an all time high.
The same thing is gonna be for the Knicks.
That's just so I'm looking forward to that man.
Van Gundy and Pat Riley.
Those guys they were doing ****ytics before it was turned in a licks.
You know, they were out the percentage that you went right, left one dribble to dribbles with you shot.
I mean, we had all that dogs after you had the norm, especially as a rookie.
When he asked you that question.
If you wanted to play what represented the Glen? Right. Shoot.
Going left off two dribbles.
You know, you have to know that answer.
If you didn't, you're not gonna be in the rotation that Jeff.
Uh, Jeff was just scrappy.
What was? He's from Rochester to write that. Joe.
Did you look well? Did you? I guess he was already in the n b A when you were in high school.
Because he was a high school coach.
Jeff Van Gundy is the first person to send me a college letter when he was a trouble up university in 1988.
Work later, I got from college ninth grade going into 10th grade and had a camp people that big man point guard camp in Oneonta at Oneonta College.
On that, I got a letter from Coach Van Gundy and kind of changed my life because it made me wanna work hard.
But all the time, literally, he was the first person like you might be a college player.
Okay, but he's because I picture Jeff Van Gundy, you know, holding on thio, Alonzo, mourning his legs or whoever his legs he was holding on Thio it was it was over Yeah, Sometimes we owe oh, lately running a three man weave just to show you he could do it making entry pass.
You know, his thing was, if you can't get the ball to Patrick Ewing, you can't play.
So I'm like, if someone threw the ball away and then get it to him properly, he you know, he sub you out, put himself in there, and he's like, Alright played the on me and he pump fake he have all these past fix and get it to Patrick Every time you know that you like if I could get it to Patrick, so can you.
But he's put it behind his back.
And, like Stan Van Gundy got dribbles like that, both of those guys can play.
And they played in Rochester.
Rochester, the basketball hotbed.
Man, we gotta, uh, Thomas Brian nd Now Isaias was about to get drafted.
Anthony land might get drafted.
Rose might get drafted.
So we got a Rochester has always been, ah, hotbed for basketball and standing, uh, Jeff played up there at Nazareth, and they did their thing in high school up there, So yeah, and those knicks teams epitomized describing this Jeff Van Gundy man.
So hopefully this team could do the same thing with Tom Thibodeau.
Exactly what? You know what they say.
You know what all added? You're taking on identity of your coach, right? So we're good.
We That's the truth, which I think it is. We're gonna be all right.
So before we get to famous passes because, of course, we gotta give you love your Syracuse run, but I want you to get to happy first.
I'm a Saint John's fan, but you know, it is what it is, but e I saw E just get dorms e a college.
All those years, no dorms was like, What e I gotta admit to, man.
And I'm I grew up in ST John's, Johnny's fan, too.
Well, that's because you guys like Chris Mullin and Jackson you know those Harvey I get it.
E g said they rain on the top of short like leopard con e your George.
Wow, that z prime a.
I was gonna ask you before you destroyed my team.
I'm gonna ask you about if you made a good point about veterans now, Tom Thibodeau is in an interesting situation where he doesn't have that veteran leadership.
So I think coming into this draft, he's gonna draft guys who fit his personality, fit his philosophy on the court. Right.
Um, you obviously you've been the game.
You know, the MSG your basketball head thrown through Onda again.
This is also gonna be on guns.
The podcast is Well, he's gonna have all these tidbits on the podcast called Powerful on SportsCastrs.
So, you know, I'm not gonna mention before, but you know, please, it's gonna be power forward on SportsCastr Go and visit.
Go subscribe all this, But you know what Next student? Yeah.
Looking forward to that.
You think in the draft fits Tom Thibodeau's vision and a style of play? Well, honestly, I don't know any of those guys personally, so it's hard to answer that to make a true assessment.
If you don't know them because you gotta know There, their psyche.
You gotta know how they're built.
You gotta know their work ethic.
Are they gym rats? Do they love the game? Is the basketball to know more on their priority list? Like all these things that you have to take into account? Besides talent and how many points they scored in rebounds and all that stuff You gotta You gotta be ableto dig into someone's heart so mine on all that and stay there for a minute and reside there and really find out the true then true the you know, their true self, Then then you make that assessment.
So, uh, if I did that, I'd be I'd be wrong to do that on one of these kids because I don't know him well enough.
Don't have enough information on him to say with which person which player would fit says, But I guarantee you tips has been doing all the necessary homework and due diligence.
You know, he knows he has a good feeling as to what? Which player would fit his style of playing his culture That I can assure you I don't have about narratives and his staff and all those guys They've been doing all their homework.
Leon Rose, my man west.
All those guys, um you know, they know what they're doing.
And I trusted them 1 million% that can't wait for them to see who we do get.
Yeah, yeah, I know it.
You know, I look at a few guys, you know, there's a few guys that I think fit Tom Thibodeau perfectly, and one of them is Isaac a core.
You said, you know, you don't know those guys well, but, you know, way spoke about that.
I think he fits what Tom Thibodeau likes to do.
All right. Just his defense.
You know, the way he wants to get up here.
I mean, he wants to play hard every time he's on the floor, you know, he's got he's gotta work on his his offensive.
You know his skills offensively a little bit.
Not that he doesn't have them.
She's gotta work on it a little bit.
His outside shot, you know, mid range shot.
But the motor and the energy that he brings to the game and his willingness to really sell out our defense, I think Tom Thibodeau would love him.
Okay, Well, like I don't know, I don't know enough about him to say one way or the other.
Obviously, I know a little bit more about all the guys were supposed to go to the top, but that's just from videos and reading about him.
Um, you know, I wasn't watching college basketball this past year as a like scouting to see who we should get, because it's just it's above my pay grade.
But what I do know is whoever they bring in, it will be a good fit because they've done all the necessary homework.
But as we know in in this world, you could do all the homework you want sometimes, uh, you know, like the Donovan Mitchell.
You don't know a star.
I mean, he went 13th.
You end up being Jonathan Mitchell is a bona fide star on.
He went 13th about that in the draft, just like quiet.
Leonard, you know, going so deep in the draft so late in the draft and becoming a starter, he's become.
So you know that just, you know, finding that diamond in the rough sometimes.
So sometimes it's almost better not to have one of the top five picks.
But you have that 8 to 15.
You can find that Dame Lillard.
You could find that quiet. Leonard.
You could find you know, those diamonds in the rough that end up, you know, changing your whole fortune around like I mean, Donovan Mitchell down in Utah made Utah relevant immediately.
And he's a star.
Dame Lillard just I think he's the best point guard in the game.
You know, everyone knows how I feel about Dame Lillard.
He is the He is the truth, man.
He really you got this look on your face.
Like E says something that made you feel like e z point behind the game rather than then stuff it if you put step If you put Dame living on the Wizards on the war is the same years stuff was there, they had the same have the same record that it has the same amount of titles and everything.
Hey, comes in and associate his that he brings this preposterous.
Hey, hey, Dame Lillard is really good and he's a little bit more efficient than Steph and a little bit more durable.
Well, he's definitely he's definitely girl stuff.
Plus I mean, he came in, he hit the ground running, He I mean, he ascended much fashion and stuff he took set for a couple years.
Thio make that full adjustment like a star, they literally ground.
He came in with him. He had.
He had a different mind.
He's like, You can't touch me, I'm different.
And he said that from Day one, and he proved it day.
Miller's, uh, just if you get some talent around, man, you're going to see because soon as LaMarcus Aldridge's left, everybody's like all right, they're gonna be done.
No, they the three seed in the West back to back years after that man, James Lillard is a problem.
He's a with or is that one year, right? I mean, come on.
And that on the car, I'm saying, I'm saying if you change them, because if anyone doesn't have three other all stars with them But if you change there, change teams, they're not gonna miss a beat with the Warriors with e Don't know, man, because because, you know, stuff like I mean, he could He plays with the ball in his hand, but he could play off the ball.
Dame doesn't like to play off.
The ball is much you're saying he like, you know, you know he likes to have the ball in his hand, and I mean, not anything wrong with that way of handling the ball for you.
That warriors team take Katie out.
Right? So that first warriors team that won a championship, you looked at them.
Can you sit and tell me that you thought that Klay Thompson and Draymond Green we're gonna be as effective or as good in that system before they won that chip? Like when you go to that team before they won the championship.
But year before with Mark Jackson and then Steve Courreges took the offensive and it took off the wheels a little bit more.
Let him let him really fly.
I saw that coming.
All saw that coming.
That's why we all kind of we wanted Mark Jackson to kind of get that ring.
But we all saw that coming E on.
And it's not a knock on stuff.
I'm just a big, up to game Lillard because you know, if he's on the team like that, he have a ring to They are good, man.
I'm just a being a mother is just Steph Curry.
That's what I'm saying.
So let me ask you this and I don't want to steal your thunder, get more but you know just kind of leads into it just kind of leads into it.
Mellows with Portland you and mellow one on one.
So someone asked me this question yesterday, and there's only one person that at my position I'm about.
I'm from Syracuse and it is Bella because he was ableto Thio.
Bring home the title in that one year.
But when you compare us, the comparisons unfair because you're comparing his one freshman year to my senior, which was comparable numbers and all that.
But I was a little bit more, a little bit more efficient because I was older and more mature.
So of course I should be more efficient.
I'm I was 22 as opposed to when he was 18 plan.
So that's the difference.
But obviously he's better, and he has a better N B a career.
And about being a first ballot Hall of Famer, he'll be our second.
Syracuse played the end of the Hall of Fame with Dave Bing, So absolutely, man, it's mellow, but I would love I would love in my prime and his prime to be ableto I love it.
I love to see, because that was my favorite thing playing.
Playing one on one all day, every day.
E talk about Syracuse.
So, you know, there are a lot of legends come out play for Syracuse.
Um, And if you had to pick your top your starting five, right, take yourself out of it.
But if you have to Coach Nate Five turkey.
Seen who would that be on? I gotta take myself out of it.
Why would I take myself out of it? I am Syracuse. Okay.
John Wallace can't pick myself out of it.
Um, so my point guard, it is gonna be pearl with and Pearl and Sherm, you know? But it is pearl because he just meant so much everything up.
Accused RFP Pearl and at the tube spot.
Who, because Lawrence, most all time scoring leader Stevie Thompson, was just phenomenal.
My man G Mac put up some bunkers.
Ain't won a national championship.
Mhm, you know, But I gotta go with Lawrence Smoke, man.
You know, the scoring supreme.
So that's my tune.
And at the three is mellow.
I'm at the four.
They're coming at the five and I put that college team has ever been assembled.
That would be a tough.
That'd be a tough team to beat, that being super tough team to beat.
Who got the clutch play, man, You got the scoring.
They get about Derrick Coleman.
Derrick Coleman was a Coleman was my goodness.
Therefore, the problem do was Well, let's let's go back to Syracuse just to make you feel good.
You know, after you destroyed ST John's, you know, I'm going to give you a Well, my E destroyed him on the court.
My Shrum off e one year, man.
Come on. All right, all right. You got it. You get Syracuse? Yeah.
A Only that's the only memories I had as a kid in college, just like Brooklyn.
Like you don't have any colleges I picked saying Johnny's, But, you know, you have that great run in 96.
Obviously, you guys, unfortunately, fell to Kentucky.
But you were You were born out that year.
Um, you gotta take this through that play against Georgia.
You know what? I'm talking about the out of bounds play.
Jason, pull over.
Shannon Anderson, man Granderson just missed that ball.
That was my old.
My first love was football, so I was a quarterback.
So that was my That was like going back to my quarterback days, putting enough touching arc on the ball to get it right over the, you know, the defender's hand, but right into my Jason Pola hit him right in the shooting pockets.
You go right into his shot, man.
Um, first part of that was Coach Boeheim being smart enough to tell me that they convinced me to take the ball out because I wanted to take the shot, obviously.
But he was like, You're our best past their best in mountain.
And if we don't inbound the ball properly, it doesn't matter.
So, uh, he had he had he had the wherewithal that convinced me Thio take take the ball out.
He hit that shot, man.
I just remember being so thankful and grateful for him hitting that shots.
I knew we were gonna win in overtime.
And, of course, you hit the addiction, and I know, I know.
You just want to get to his shot.
Three point shot, uh, to win the game.
So of course, he said, I know we're gonna win over time.
Of course it goes to John Watson, I think was the already I finished with 30 and 15 so obviously I e.
Me and I obviously reminded them every 28 seconds that they couldn't guard me just in case they forgot that little bit of a offense.
Can you take the Kentucky game? Because you went off in that Kentucky game as well to 29 points, uh, 19 or something like that? You know, 19.
That game right there, man was, you know, obviously looking back, obviously, uh, Kentucky was the the better team won.
The best teams are ever playing in finals, right? 89 n b a. Guys.
Uh, but that night was our night and finally found out we would have won.
It was because, you know, I had those boys like Antoine Walter.
Remember Antoine coming up to me after the game and bases being like because at the time I put it on him so much, he's like, you're gonna make me stay in school.
Then you end up changing.
E gave them boys.
You know what I'm talking.
You know, talking crazy to him.
The whole game ain't giving them buckets.
And I'm talking Pitino.
I'm talking everybody, right? And, man, uh, that game that's one game I've never watched.
Afterwards e on the court, I went to the locker room, just started tearing the locker room up when I realized we were gonna lose the game.
So, um, you know, they were the better team.
But that night was our night until, uh, mhm.
I know that Burns.
I know it burns.
So talk to us about power forward.
So power for is, you know, on this podcast podcast.
We're doing our SportsCastrs.
You go go to Twitter 44.
John Wallace, 40 forward.
We're gonna be doing our thing on there, man.
With some Syracuse guys talking a lot of Syracuse sports and life business finances everything we're gonna touch, we're gonna run the whole gamut.
Uh, he's not gonna just be a sports related show.
We're gonna be talking about everything our family live.
Um, everything, man gonna touch on all the topics. My first.
Yes. It's gonna be my boy.
My apartment crying.
Okay, just so it will be in my first guest.
And I'm looking forward to that.
And, you know, we're going to do it right? Man, I can't wait. SportsCastrs.
There's a great company.
And, um, my man Mixu packs, But they're doing some great things behind the scenes.
And we're gonna get him, Uh, you know, out in front of the camera a little bit too.
00 you got to get him out in front of Okay.
Well, I'm looking forward to that way.
Talk to Nick, you know, a few times a week looking forward to seeing get on the camera.
Yeah, don't worry about that.
Yeah, I've got your link.
I'm about to put your link in all the chats so people could go ahead and, you know, follow you on SportsCastr so they could be ready for the, you know, so they could get ready for the podcast.
I'm looking forward to it, Thio, What made you guys going thio like this whole Nick things like that.
Are you? Lifetime Nick Fan? What player made you a Knick fan? Oh, yeah.
I'm just a lifetime Knicks fan, man.
I mean from I mean Patrick Ewing is my favorite, Nick.
You know Pat you on? That's my favorite Nick of all time.
I got a bunch of pairs of Patrick human sneakers in my club releases that When they came out a couple years ago, I got I got some new.
Yeah, I got some new releases I don't have.
I'm gonna order stuff.
No, Like, they've been coming out with E p m d Ewings and, you know, rappers on it, ese.
So, you know, I'm looking at, you know, build my collection of those yours with basketball sneakers in eighth grade, First one? Yeah.
C C c um, but, yeah, I became a fan way back in, like, I don't know, 85 86.
You know, I'm saying and then that's all that I did.
I mean, there were times when I didn't have I didn't have cable, you know, I lay down and just listen to the radio.
Clyde called the games every night.
You know what I'm saying? I mean, exactly, you know, e I mean, that was just the knicks just always been there, you know, Saying just always been there always been a Knicks fan.
And no matter what happens, no matter what, I'm going through what they go through.
I'm just a Knicks fan.
I'm gonna defend him to the death.
No, I'm the same way for yeah, mine is.
My path is a little weird.
So my first game, I remember watching like as a kid, did we watching was a game in 93 versus the Suns and the sons uniformed that year I thought was dope as hell.
And I was like, That's the wrong team.
I'm not supposed to be.
Phenomenon is like, Okay, I'm from Brooklyn.
Okay? New York Knicks, My favorite player, growing up toe watch Used to be just a watch.
Was Anthony Mason because used to have the part in his head like the non A design crazy designs.
And I was like, Oh, man, that was cool with being a Yeah, yeah, Ewing is my all time favorite. Great.
But a guy that I was like, No, I wanna emulate my game after it was Allan Houston.
Just because I was a shooter, because I don't have the speed explosion to, like be all these kids in the hood.
Whatever is like these kids were crossing over.
Everybody wanted to Iverson myself.
And like I tried, I was like, Yeah, I don't have I don't got dribble like that, but yeah, I could see that.
I mean, he kind of blocked e.
Look, I busted oil.
You want to see me? If you want to give me a point, e call any game you could dio.
I'm joking, John D o I'm ready for redoing out.
So that all the back in the day when I played when I was Jane, You down crossing you up a shoulder in your chest.
Now he remembers it vividly.
He remembers e o E, But yeah, that was my That was my path to the next man.
And again, I'm a I'm too loyal, man.
I never move away.
I'm a I mean, if you hear the teams on my part.
I love I'm a knicks.
I'm a Met Jets Manchester United States.
So I don't All my team have been doing terrible, but you know, I mean, when we do good, I mean met in 2015 jets in 10 4011 You know is nothing like a good New York team doing well, man.
When the Knicks you remember, it's not a lot of years that you guys did good.
So see how quickly we call that E.
Okay, I'm speechless.
I don't I don't have anything.
This'll e There's gonna be a abuse all day, you know? Go ahead, E.
I don't know how much time you got, man, but it's really been fun.
I'm really looking forward to to the podcast next next Tuesday.
Is there a specific time? Is that that it debuts? Now, we're working on the time and when When it's actually gonna air if it's gonna be live and all that.
But we'll work out everything, but we'll definitely shoot it.
Tuesday, I think it's gonna be live, but I'm not 100% sure, but I have to venture and say probably will be live.
Yeah, Hopefully it is live because I'm definitely jumping in the chat when is live and, uh, you know, see what you guys talking about? A couple jabs out there or something, you know? Yeah, We're looking forward to it, man.
Trying trying to get up to your you guys studies.
You know, you probably Syracuse great.
I mean, people want to hear what you're talking about.
You're gonna be there were moving and not just talking about basketball, because remember, a lot of these kids coming in, you spent four years in college.
I mean, you develop, you guys are spending one year in college and they're coming MBA, basically still teenagers.
So they need guidance from guys like you They don't have.
I mean, a lot of players say they do this, and I'm not saying they don't but toe have somebody like you on YouTube or not YouTube, but on the Internet, on sports Caster talking to people, talk about finances.
I mean, a lot of kids were coming up.
They're going to get that guidance that they're not getting, you know, from a U or from this agent tryingto do this so sweet to that.
You're gonna touch on a lot of things that normally they don't touch on.
We're gonna touch on everything.
Yeah, that's good.
Because like, he's saying, these young guys, you know, they need to hear from former players, you know, you know, you can have the basketball Association and the M V p a.
And you know, things that I know the Oh, hope with the young guys coming into the league giving them mawr financial literacy.
Uh, just trying to make them more aware of what's going on the business around.
Uh, yeah, but they're not all all, you know, getting taken advantage of.
Because in this world, when you get money too young, I don't care who you are.
You don't know what to do with it.
Yeah, your 20 something young early twenties, just like your early twenties on Walter.
And you hit it big on one of your stocks or whatever.
You kind of lose it eventually because you just get it too young on Unless you have some good guidance people around me who really, really care about you e leech off.
You would really care about you and also can add can be an asset to Can't have.
Everyone just leads you.
Someone's got something to the prime at some point, right? Right, right.
Have you had any of you know? Because, you know, you've been in the league, been around the league, had a, uh, historic college career, have you had any players come up to you? Just any.
Any Knicks come up to you, Nick.
Players come up to you.
Just ask you for some advice about talk to all the guys e Syracuse guys.
I'm always, uh, phone call, the way they all have my number.
It's not just Syracuse or Nick guys, you know, kids in general, like I meet all my nick events.
Like there's a couple kids I've kept in touch with over the last 89 years that started out as little kids and touch ST stayed in touch via text.
I haven't seen him in, like, eight or nine years, but he texts me all the time.
He's in college now.
He's doing well, eh? So I just try to help out anybody.
Sometimes they're like, you know, you shouldn't give you a number of everybody, but I'm like, I only text back people.
I want to talk to you.
So e don't care who text me.
E wanna talk to you. We're just not gonna talk.
I mean, I'm not changing my number or anything that avoid anything.
If I don't want to talk to you, I probably won't return your text, and that's just where it goes.
E have one last question.
What problem? You know, you know, like I said, my favorite player of all times been Patrick Ewing.
Can you give us a funny story about Patrick Ewing? From the time you were with him, I got a bunch of funny Ewing stories from him playing.
You know, whenever the reggae music came on, just seeing his body get like a was like electricity.
Like it's just like because he'd be sitting there.
No, his nickname is the beast.
No one worked harder than had unequivocally No one ever worked harder than him.
So he's, you know, he's just just just certainly working hard every day.
Then then you hear some reggae music.
Come on and just see this.
Like, you just start dancing.
He feeling okay? But my favorite pat story, Um, because when Patrick came from Jamaica and is in Massachusetts and went to college and you know he got he got heavily ridiculed wrongfully.
So because obviously anyone that goto Georgetown the smart, So for people to imply that he wasn't smart or whatever they were doing back then Thio be demeaning to him.
He dealt with a lot of back.
Then way all remember that? So because of that, you know, he doesn't really.
He's kind of stand office Thio some people over here when he was a player, like in terms of signing stuff, right? But in Jamaica, when I was with Patrick, I went on a trip with him.
He took me over there and I saw him saying autographs for hours for I mean, the line was miles long and he signed all of them and it really hit me.
And it made sense to me that he is with his people and he got turned off in America so much because so many people were so against him for no reason.
Like there was no reason to be against Patrick Ewing.
He was a great player.
Unless he's like, you know, against your team.
I can understand that.
But they have visceral Hey, that was shown towards him, you know, it just wasn't it was unwarranted.
So to see him in that light was a beautiful thing for me.
And I always like to bring that up because it was awesome to see that that side of Patrick doing that? People over here rarely get a chance to see playing, you know? So I'm going to see that side of Patman signing autographs for hours for everyone.
I think the whole country Jamaica got the autograph that night, man.
It was It was incredible, man.
Really? Waas was dope.
Jon Thompson, Thank God.
Pack recovered from Cove in 19.
Yeah, s Oh, hey, John has been It's been great.
I would love to do it again sometime, Anytime.
Please, Please bring me back anytime you guys want.
Um, I hope I hope you're not to upset me, man.
I watched the game.
You got a little You got a little post up game.
I got you. Yeah, but see the thing.
You know the thing.
You're not realized.
What? That post game is a lot of elbows Thio e, but e Oh, man, thank you so much.
I appreciate you guys keep doing your what you're doing because you guys are the true true knick fans, and you got the true nick enthusiasts out there will follow.
You guys, Listen to you guys.
All the time, and I'm one of them.

It was fun, man.

E he's probably seems like e nothing thio.
So, guys, please again, power forward little guys goto a SportsCastr And not many times when we have access like this two players like this we're humble enough Eso all those answers, you know, not be fascinating crazy, but you know, there's no filler, anything, so we could pick his brain.

Guns blasting Jones gonna do all right? I'm not even gonna whatever Simmons delusions.
Hey, I'm just saying, we'll see.
They just Antonio Brown.
They just signed Antonio Brown to E s.
Maybe their chemistry will be a little bit off since they just signed Antonio Brown.
You know, maybe the chemistry chemistry with Ben Roethlisberger, and he's probably one of the best receivers you don't need.
I'm just e If he, you know, I'm assuming he's going to debut against the Giants.
Maybe the chemistry just be a little bit off.
You know, you never know.
Bobble the ball right to your end zone and then drop it.
Look, she might do something. You never know.
He was a little off kilter.
He's off kilter course getting with the Patriots.
I guess the dolphins he put up some absurd.
I get it, I get it.

I'm going into Sunday.
We're playing the Chiefs E.
I'm not saying we're gonna win.
I'm just saying, you know, if we **** some way, Find a way to make it a a good game.
Maybe, But like this is still in the playoff hunt.
This is how pathetic.
Still in the playoff.
How pathetic The NFC This is, man, but slew human again.
