everybody Thio everybody man about to get started.
And Sir Nick's family What is popping with you should boys Seuin I'm here with leading the Knicks podcast and, uh, you know, we're waiting patiently John Wallace is on the way.
So, you know, just, you know, Stay, stay cool.
He's gonna be here. Just a minute, man.
Don't get too anxious.
Don't get too anxious, GMO.
You know, it's just talk to talk until until he gets in.
What's going on with you, man? So you got you got the new Knicks banner in the background.
I mean, you know, I have to do it for my next somewhere.
I'm getting some more bandage, man.
Uh, you know, I don't have so called strict rules about what you can hang up.
But at this point, I believe eso Yeah, definitely, Man.
Everything is good, man.
Everybody's dressed up looking crazy.
It's everybody being here, you know, You guys could be e.
I don't know how a crazy It's a weird Halloween.
It's a weird Halloween this year.
You know, you gotta you gotta do Halloween through social distancing and all of that kind of stuff, you know, Thank you.
So, you guys being on the side a man salute to everybody.
And this is, uh Yeah, no doubt about it, man.
We might as well just talk some nicks until until he gets in here and was stolen.
Said the jacket is a banger.
Thank you. I've wanted before.
I got a bunch of them.
I don't always wear knicks gear when my mom, but, you know, I had to do it today.
I couldn't let Gamow, you know, show me up with the dope with the dope with the dope Hoody.
You know what I'm saying? E o dope Hoody.
So I had to go change and go on something.
Something e mean something. Next.
Come, um I read the article about Lemelle a ball, right? You know, just just you know, until we get John here.
I read the article about Lemelle a ball and you know about him about I guess he's had one.
What is maybe 11 interview so far with the Minnesota Timberwolves? Maybe he's had a couple other ones, and yeah, I guess he's been, You know, the interviews haven't gone Well, you know, then I read today that LeVar is like, I even want him to go to the Knicks.
To go to Detroit is the England is he England and trying to make that happen.
That's that's why is he England and trying to make it happen.
He's definitely England way.
I mean, I think is that Detroit out of all teams might be the team.
That would be like, Hey, look, we down bottom to We're not gonna give you up your talent.
We need as much talent as possible.
So you might be trying to safe land, uh, possible for if they do fall to the Pistons.
Now, if he gets past the Pistons, the Pistons of what? Fifth, I believe.
Yeah, something like that.
And I think hoaxes.
Six Hawks wouldn't need him.
Seventh would be this performance system artist.
Make sure number 70 sorry.
So e wouldn't need a Cleveland would've needed my five because that Z already got Garland and ***ton wouldn't make absolutely no sense.
Charlotte could take him.
But if you falls past Charlotte, then you've got literally a landing.
I mean, you say Chicago, Chicago will probably look at the melon ball but they're in such disarray.
I think they might be looking like we don't need any headaches.
I'm just saying that best We might still take a mellow because the next Monday wanted security yesterday looking for a point guard.
If he gets past Cleveland, it could be a crap shoot.
Craps s all right.
So let me ask you if he if he gets, if he's down, he's at six, right? Do the Knicks do the next, then execute a trade to move up? He's at *** and, you know, because who is that speaking to? I was talking to somebody yesterday.
I was talking to somebody.
I don't think it was live.
I think we was having to talk and I said, You know, I think if one of those guys like Bomb Ball specifically starts to fall in the draft and he's somewhere around five or six, the Knicks might say, All right, you know what that's gotten? Execute that trade to make it as well, so I'm not giving up any of those 2021 picks.
Wayne Touches stood understood, understood.
27th pick, the 27th pick.
And so you would 27.
A lot of talent is gonna fall out by 27.
If you weren't gonna pick that if you weren't gonna pick a point guard at 27 you probably scrapping for point guard.
So at that point, you gotta trade my 27th pick.
So So you're trading your 27 you're trading your eight, Phil? Um l a ball.
And then you still got that 30.
Whatever it is 38th pick or whatever it is.
And maybe, you know, you consistently find a way.
Thio package that to move up and get them in the late first round.
Okay, that's what's up.
Let's get in. E.
What's up, John? What's going on, man? How you feeling? How you doing, man? Appreciate you, E appreciate you weigh.
Appreciate you coming on in and joining us.
Always ****ing true, Nick.
Guys, You know that's it.
Okay, hold on one second. There we go.
You know what? Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome legendary Syracuse Orangemen from 92 to 96.
Former Knicks power forward John Wallace in the building We appreciate you, man.
Thank you for joining us.
You guys, I feel bad.
I don't have my g o step child that that wasn't one of the O.
Hey, you know what? Before we even get into something, I got something I need to get off my chest and I've had it on my chest is, like, 96.
You grew up in Rochester, right from the rock.
I lived in Utica from the end of elementary school until high school.
Tells my sop****re year right upstate.
And when I was living in Utica, somebody came through.
I was living in a place called Adrian Projects Adrian terrorist projects.
Yeah, OK, eso somebody came through tall dude, super duper tall, and he was in the neighborhood and he said, You know, I was asking around about playing ball against somebody, and, you know, people pointed me towards you.
Now I'm like, I think I'm eighth grade or something like that.
And and he said, I'll give you 20 points and we'll play the 21 I'm and I'm thinking, OK, E could get at least a bucket, right? We play boom, I get a couple shots up but they all get blocked.
They get blocked, they get blocked.
I get one shot off and I miss it.
I lose 21 to 20 Right? Then God tells me he's like, Yo, I'm from Rochester.
I got family here in Utica.
I'm going to Syracuse.
I never knew his name.
Then when you got drafted to the Knicks, I was like, Yo, was that John Wallace? It's been burning me for years since 96 so I don't know.
I just felt I might as well I ask you, that sounds like something I would have done when back then.
Give you 20 and go to 21 just to prove just the different levels of the, you know, just playing because you know so many guys when when you you're just watching the game.
The game seems so easy because those guys were so good.
So I remember when I first got drafted and I'm coming back home or talking to guys at home on, the guys would be like, Man, I think I could be Charlie Ward or Chris Childs one on one, and I would turn around and tell him flat out they would beat you 100 thio twice on Sunday.
E realized level.
So I used to do things like that.
That story you're talking about? I got a couple of guys back home and tell you they're very similar stories going to 30 giving them giving them 29.
You know, just just a little deep.
You see me like and he's nice, right? Alright.
S I don't know. It might have been.
It might have been you.
I'm gonna say I'm gonna say it with me.
A right on one shot.
I was right there, had a little mid range jump shot, and I blew it on.
And I couldn't stop thinking about e just that shot A That was it a za? Matter of fact, didn't tell me.
You said, Oh, you should have made that because it's older.
And I think the score was like I think it was around 20 to 15 at that time or something like that.
Be like that, man.
Like I told my my old friends I used to beat up on on the basketball court or whatever, Leach, you lost a eventual n b a guy like I could be telling you how to make the n b a mechanic or something.
You know, a school, right? E o exactly.
No shame in that at all, man.
No saving that at all s I do have a quick question, though, is like a because, I mean, you're talking about, you know, busting normal guys like us.
But, you know, when you're on the set of he got game and you had a Ray Allen Travis Best Walter McCarty.
Did you? Did you have any stories about busting them? One on one? Come on.
You wanna set? For how many hours? The Hooper's right there.
I mean, you guys are all of extra MBA players prospects at the time.
It was It Did you? Did you Did you bust any of them on the court? You give it to Jesus.
But at least give him, like, a hot 30 before you e you know my resume? I gave it to me in college.
I gave me, gave me some in an n b a.
He gave me some cool, but on that set, why? That movie was so good and why I was so like, you know, the basketball scenes.
None of it was scripted.
That was just a whooping Brooklyn for a couple of months in spite taking bits and pieces of it.
But that was just us, literally just playing who pick up ball.
No set plays, no nothing Expo besides that one when he threw it off the backboard that when he dumped it and pulled the newspaper out of stock.
Other than that, everything else was just a straight hooping and getting it in out there like, I mean, he was really getting it in, out in the projects, playing late night.
It was It was fun, man.
That's kind of all we all kind of grew up on.
So bring us back to our roots.
It was really, really fun.
But of course I was giving buckets.
I e got next point.
You see all the n b A guys.
Kyle Lowry is giving me a shout out to other guys.
You know what they do not I got hops, baby.
You know what I'm saying? A movie.
And that was just ad lib because that was me.
I do got hops back then, but you know, just just scooping, man.
And, uh, you know, we were all like we all went out for the role of Jesus Shuttlesworth.
We already for that road, they get the other roads.
We got all the other ancillary roles that came, but it was all about Jesus.
Everyone thought he, you know, he should have picked Stefan.
Marjorie, you know who's my boy? Close personal friend.
And obviously it's kinda depicted on him slightly.
You know, the Brooklyn e think I think Spike Lee picked the right person after you look at Ray Allen's career, and Stefan end up doing his own movie and doing his thing over in China.
But, you know, you know, hey, got a lot of backlash because he didn't use Stefan at the time.
But I mean, after you look at Ray Allen's career and the way that movie turned out for all of us, you know, I would have to say you pick the right person.
Yeah, that's a great movie.
Yeah, you know, it's crazy is like I ran into the day Miller, like, two years ago at the garden.
You know, after the shoot around, I'm walking on and do my thing because I still work for the next.
And, uh, I walked on the court and he's just like, man, I was just watching that movie and and it really just dawned on me.
But all the young guys today they came up on that.
He got game movie that was like, that was their movie And shout out the spike because Spike told me that, You know, give me Give me everything you got on every on every, um when every scene Give me everything Give me all in this movie pay you the rest of your life So, uh, you know, he definitely lived up Thio his word.
And every time I see him, I tried to tell him Thank you about him Something because, you know, I'm still getting checks every month for that movie soon.
Yeah. I mean, that's that's the way to do it right there.
You know, that's the way todo so.
You were drafted to the Knicks in 96 right? Uh, Tom Thibodeau was there.
You know, we gotta bring out some Tom Thibodeau questions.
Tom Thibodeau was there in 96.
Um, you play with the Knicks the year they made their finals run.
What can you tell us? What do you remember about Tom Thibodeau? And you know he's a E.
I was with time every day.
Coach tips every day because he was the rookies guy.
So myself, Dahntay Jones, Walter McCarty.
We had to be at practice an hour before every practice.
So coach Van Gundy said, practice at 10.
I mean, the rookies had to be there at nine.
He only told you that the first day.
You have to learn that from the very first day.
Never repeated that.
So whatever time he gave, we had to be there in our earlier.
But when you got there, Tim's already there, working out Allan Houston.
You already got Larry Johnson some shots, and then he he came over to us.
But when you thought he just started because he had so much, you know, energy and, uh, you know, excitement about let's get better today and we're going to get after it.
And that was time tips, man.
And, you know, I knew once he did become a head coach, I know he's gonna be successful because, you know, being around Van Gundy and people of that ill Hey, just learned how toe you know attention to detail and do everything the right way and do it 100% and hold everyone as accountable is the best man on the team as the alleged, you know, 15th man on the team, you know, whatever.
So I think he coached everyone just as hard is the best guy on the team.
And I think that's what's important to be a really good head coach.
And I'm looking forward to the next this year and the culture that he's gonna implement and on and bring us back to that those those years were the Knicks for relevant every year.
You know, miss those with those years, man.
Yeah, it's been a rough a couple of decades, you know.
Besides, you know, the mellow stent, uh, you know, the mellow era, You know, when we when we've been in the playoffs, but the past couple of decades, uh, and and it had to be a Georgetown guy that my goodness tell me about, uh will come out.
That was painful, uh, in a way that cast your question on that real quick on, you know? So Tom Thibodeau, obviously he came from, You know, at least it seems like all of our favorite errors of Knick basketball, where it was tough.
It was no nonsense.
But now he's in a so called and not necessarily a worse but relatively soft.
The MBA, right? You know some of the hard nose coaches.
They kind of lose their voice.
And obviously Tom Thibodeau's had so whatever Rocky Road after, you know, really good years in Chicago.
Ondas never been down to really is excellent knows he's a good extent, old guys seems like.
But now you have this smorgasbord of like coaches around him, Woody and those are the guys that picked up to put around Tom Thibodeau.
How do you think that's gonna translate with some of these younger guys? Because Tom Thibodeau, you know you can't you know, the whole George car. Stolen basketball.
Hey, just do what I tell you to do.
No, no complaints. Whatever.
That's kind of dying or dead versus now.
You have to have more of a softer touch.
So how do you think he's going to translate with these? So called younger, younger guys a new MBA, which is a little bit more something than before.
But I think I think there's gotta be a little bit, uh, conformity on on both sides like tips.
God be willing to conform a little bit, I'm sure.
And you know, because you know he's gonna change his style of it because today's player is a little different.
But today's plan is gonna be a little bit more receptive to some constructive criticism and on their game taught by NBA champion coach, you know, And once you buy in, it makes it a lot easier.
Then that's just that's just like man, when you're when you're a player, obviously the management and you know higher the coach that they that they feel can bring bring us toe where we need to be.
So you got to trust in the in the whole system and you gotta buy in, you know and way had seasoned vets him not came in where I had Ewing and all those guys start.
You have no choice but to buying.
You're buying or you weren't on the team literally.
That was not negotiable, and there's not really the she's invest around anymore that can come in like, honestly, you.
Donald has him when he did down in Miami this year, like, you know, talking to them during the playoffs.
You know, you felt a little bits and pieces of it when he went off on him during the game.
But he's doing that in the locker room practices the whole year.
I know you don is very well, so that way.
Need you need somebody to hold you accountable every single day to make sure that you're doing what you're supposed to do because the n B A is a grind and it's tough.
And the guys that come up and show up every day that put on their hard hat and bring their lunch bell every day.
Those guys that had the woman Kim success, you know, I would like to think that during the nick time when I was there, you know, I came.
I was in New York and I left and I came back.
But all during that time, the mixture very, very relevant.
And, you know, they ain't gonna built a certain culture that Tibbs was a part of.
So you're a very successful winning positive culture because there's nothing better than winning.
It's hard, but it's nothing better than when you know, it was easy.
Anybody winning, but it's hard to accomplish.
Just tough practices is you know, I remember a couple of times being like, Wow, I can't believe we just want and we're gonna We're about 3.
5 hours and four hours like Van Gundy.
His same waas we're gonna be We'll be here all day. I don't care.
I don't have anything e 24 hours.
So I mean, however long we got to here to get it done, we're gonna get it done.
Are there any players on this team this next team that you think are really gonna benefit from Tom Thibodeau? You know, maybe even more than some other single player is gonna benefit from Tom Thibodeau, Just like every single player benefit benefited from him in Chicago and in Minnesota.
You know, he he brought them to the playoffs.
That had been in playoffs for however long in Minnesota.
The single Hanley was responsible for not only drafting Jimmy brother, but still in the work.
You know, the necessary tools to make Jimmy brother become the player that he eventually became.
That all started with tips.
So I'm hoping he can instill some of that, uh, Kool Aid into R.
Barrett and the rest of them, man.
I mean, I'm looking forward to it because you know those.
I'm sure all some of those guys are working as hard as they could work.
They wanted a part of the bubble.
So that's a little chip on your shoulder on everyone's talking junk about the Knicks has another chip on your shoulder.
And I just hope guys hit the courts and I noted, Just got him.
And one thing, they're gonna be in phenomenal shape, so they're gonna be in phenomenal shape.
And hopefully, when you're in that kind of shape, you're able to sustain Ah, higher level of playing, which will? Hopefully some of those tough loss that we had it in the game last year.
We could turn those into victory u turn some of those victories during the playoffs once you get to the playoffs.
Anything that happened the next on the eight seed, I think, still in history to make to the NBA Finals.
So, you know, just like get man and I you know, I'm a eternal optimist when they come to my nick.
So that's just where I'm wired.
So I'm thinking like, if we just get into playoff, then let the chips fall where they may I trust and tips coaching and his, uh what he's gonna instill into the players all year.
And, you know, like I said, the guys like our game, you know, uh, knowing his father and knowing where he comes from that pedigree, I'm looking forward to him.
Proven people who said eh, Maybe he didn't have his good years.
They thought he had.
I thought he had a good year, and I think he's just gonna build in the year that he did have on.
I'm looking forward to that and Mr Robinson and the rest of those guys, Man, just coming out here is on fire every night.
So, given that we I mean, the whole point about veterans, I think is extremely important that you came into a situation where you got guys who knew how to win.
E mean, I don't want to reminisce about those mixed things, man.
It hurts to talk about them, Um, because it's just looking a team that I'm just like it's not even though I'm an eternal optimist.
So everybody, John Wallace is basically in the next 45 minutes next year.
So way you put it on me just like Tim's put it on himself way.
Don't mind pressure because, you know we're gonna be prepared for it when you prepped for it when it when it comes.
You welcoming because you know you're gonna bust through it, man.
It ain't nothing that you can accomplish when you're superbly prepared for anything that will come your way.
And that's the part of tips that you know.
I'm sure you got some of that from Van Gundy.
Just attention to detail.
Congrats to my man Stand and getting a job down the pelicans.
But the pelican there gonna be a detention.
Their detailed attention to detail is gonna be and an all time high.
The same thing is gonna be for the Knicks.
That's just so I'm looking forward to that man.
Van Gunny and Pat Riley.
Those guys they were doing ****ytics before it was turned ****ytics, you know, they were out the percentage that you went right.
Left one dribble to dribbles with your shot.
I mean, we had all that dogs after you had the norm, especially as a rookie, when he asked you that question if you wanted to play, what percent of the Glen, right? Shoot.
Going left off two dribbles.
You know, you have to know that Answer if you know you're not gonna be in the rotation at night.
Jeff was just scrappy.
What wasn't He's from Rochester too, right? Yeah.
From Did you look? Well, did you? I guess he was already in the n b A.
When you were in high school.
Because he was a high school coaching on Roger.
Jeff Van Gundy is the first person to send me a college letter.
When he was a Rutgers University in 1988 by letter I got from college ninth grade going into 10th grade and at a camp people, that big man point guard camp in Oneonta at only on a college.
I got a letter from Coach handgun in and kind of changed my life because it made me wanna work hard.
But but all the time, literally.
He was the first person like you might be a college player, Okay, but But he's he's because I picture Jeff Van Gundy, you know, holding onto Alonzo Mourning's legs or whoever his legs he was holding onto in a scuffle.
It was It was right in the middle of the funny Yeah, practice sometimes started scrimmaging with, like, you know, running a three man weave just to show you he could do it.
Making entry pass.
His thing was, if you can't get the ball to Patrick, you and you can't play.
So like, if someone threw the ball away and then get it to him properly, he you know, he sub you out, put himself in and he was like, All right, play beyond me and he'd pump fake he have all these past takes and get it to Patrick every time you know that, he's like, If I could get into Patrick, so can you.
He's put it behind his back.
I'm like, standing got dribbles like that.
He was Both of those guys can play and they played in Rochester with Rochester in the basketball hotbed.
Man, we gotta, uh, Thomas Brian nb now Isaiah.
So it's about to get drafted Anthony Lamb might get drafted.
Rose might get drafted.
So we got a Rogers has always been, ah, hotbed for basketball and standing, Uh, Jeff played up there at Nazareth, and they did their thing in high school up there.
So yeah, and and those Knicks teams epitomized the scrapping is Jeff Van Gundy, man.
So hopefully this team could do the same thing with Tom Thibodeau.
You know what they say? You know what all added, you take on identity of your coach, right? So we're good.
That's the truth, which I think it is.
We're gonna be all right, all right, before we get to famous passes.
Because, of course, we gotta give you love your Syracuse run, but I want to get too happy first.
I'm a Saint John's fan, but, you know, it is what it is, but e I saw you know.
Then you guys just get dorms E college, All those years, no doors.
E got, I gotta admit to, man, I grew up in ST John's, Johnny's fan, too.
Well, these guys like Chris Mullin and Mark Jackson.
You know those Harvey I get it a rest in peace, like like biggie said they rain on the top of short like left e your job. Wow.
A a a e before you before my team e was gonna ask you about You made a good point about veterans.
Now, Tom Thibodeau is in an interesting situation where he doesn't have that veteran reissue.
So I think coming into this draft, he's going to draft guys who fit his personality, fit his philosophy on the court. Right.
Um, you obviously you've been the game, the MSG your basketball head through through Onda again.
This is also gonna be on John's.
The podcast is Well, he's gonna have all these tidbits on the podcast called Powerful on SportsCastrs.
So you know, I know we have mentioned before, but, you know, appreciate it is gonna be power forward on SportsCastr.
Go subscribe to all this.
But next Tuesday, November 3rd, Right next Tuesday.
Yeah, looking forward to that.
Do you think in the draft fits Tom Thibodeau's vision and a stolid play? Well, honestly, I don't know any of those guys personally, so it's hard to answer that to make a true assessment.
If you don't know them because you gotta know their psyche.
You gotta know how they're built.
You gotta know the work ethic.
Are they gym rats? Do they love the game? Is the basketball the no more on their priority list? Like all these things that you have to take into account besides talent And how many points they scored in rebounds and all that stuff you gotta You gotta be ableto dig into someone's heart so mine and all that and stay there for a minute and reside there and really find out the true them true, the you know, the true self, Then Then you make that assessment.
So I if I did that, I'd be I'd be wrong to do that on one of these kids cause I don't know him well enough.
Don't have enough information on them that they which person which player would fit says, But I guarantee you tips has been doing all the necessary homework and due diligence, you know, he knows he has a good feeling as to what Which player would fit his style of playing his culture that I can assure you I don't have about narratives and his staff and all those guys they've been doing all their homework.
Leon Rose, my man west.
All those guys, um, you know, they know what they're doing.
And I trusted them 1 million% that can't wait for them to see who we do get.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know.
You know, I look at a few guys, you know, there's a few guys that I think fit Tom Thibodeau perfectly, and one of them is Isaac a core.
You said, you know, you don't know those guys well, but, you know, way spoke about that.
I think he fits what Tom Thibodeau likes to do perfectly.
You know, as far as just his defense, his motor, you know, the way he wants to get up.
I mean, he wants to play hard every time he's on the floor, you know, he's got he's gotta work on his his offensive.
You know his skills offensively a little bit.
Not that he doesn't have them.
She's gotta work on it a little bit.
His outside shot, um, you know, mid range shot.
But the motor and the energy that he brings to the game and his willingness to really sell out on defense.
I think Tom Thibodeau would love him.
Okay, Well, like I don't know, I don't know enough about him to say one way or the other.
Um, obviously, I know a little bit more about all the guys who was supposed to go to the top, but that just for me videos and reading about him.
Um, you know, I wasn't watching college basketball this past year as a like scouting to see who we should get, because it's just it's above my pay grade.
But what I do know is whoever they bring in, it will be a good fit because they've done all the necessary homework.
But as we know in this world, you could do all the homework you want sometimes, Uh, you know, like the Donovan Mitchell.
You don't you don't know a star.
I mean, he went 13th, but end up being he.
Donovan Mitchell is a bona fide star, and he went 13 in the draft, just like why? Leonard, you know, going so deep in the draft until late in the draft and becoming a starter, he's become.
So you know that just, you know, finding that diamond in the rough sometimes So sometimes it's almost better not to have one of the top five picks, But you have that 8 to 15.
You can find that Dame Lillard.
You could find that quiet, Leonard.
You could find you know, those diamonds in the rough that end up, you know, changing your whole fortune around like I mean Donovan Mitchell down the Utah made Utah relevant immediately.
He's just are, you know, obviously Dame Leather.
Just I think he's the best point guard in the game.
You know, everyone knows how I feel about dame liquor.
He is the He is the truth, man.
You got this look on your face E O that made you feel you that zero point around the game.
A man stuff it if you put if you put game living on the Wizards on the Warriors the same years stuff was there, they had the same have the same record it had.
It had the same amount of titles and everything.
Yeah, hey, comes insult State God is that he brings this preposterous its hey day, mother.
It's really good, and he's a little bit more efficient than step and a little bit more durable.
Well, He's definitely more durable.
He's definitely more durable and stuff he talked.
Plus, I mean, he came in.
He hit the ground running.
He I mean, he had scented much fashion and stuff he took set for a couple years ago.
Thio make that full adjustment like a star.
They hit the ground.
He came in with a chip confidence he had.
He had a different mind, but he's like he's like, I can't touch me, I'm different.
And he said that from day one and he proved it Day movies.
I just get some talent around, man.
You're gonna see because soon as LaMarcus Aldridge's left, everybody's like all right, they're gonna be done.
No, they the three seed in the West, back to back years after that man, James Lillard is a problem.
He's tough, he's a problem.
He's that be a problem.
He's it's a problem with the orders that one year, right? I mean, come on and that I'm saying I'm saying if you change them, it doesn't have three other all stars with them, But if you change there, change teams, they're not gonna miss a beat with the Warriors with a mother man.
I don't know, man, because because, you know, stuff like I mean, he he plays with the ball in his hand, but he could play off the ball.
Dave doesn't like to play off the ball is much you're saying he like, you know? You know, he likes to have the ball in his hand.
And I mean, not that there's anything wrong with that, because it all starts hailing the ball for you.
But on a serious that warriors team take Katie out.
Right? So that first warriors team that won a championship Well, you looked at them.
Can you sit and tell me that you thought that Klay Thompson and Draymond Green we're gonna be as effective or as doing that system before they won that ****? Like, you know that before they won the championship way here before, with Mark Jackson, and then Steve Courreges took the offensive and and and took off the wheels a little bit more, Let him and let him really fly.
I saw that coming, E we all saw that coming.
That's why I weigh one of Mark Jackson to kind of get that ring.
But we all saw that coming.
I definitely And it's not a knock on stuff.
I'm just a big up to game with because, you know, if he's on the team like that, he have a ring to e.
It is a monster game, Justus.
Good a Steph Curry.
That's what I'm saying.
So let me ask you this and I don't want to steal your thunder, Guillermo.
But you know, just kind of leads into it.
Just kind of leads into it.
Mellows with Portland.
You and mellow one on one.
Yeah, to Syracuse Legends one.
Actually, someone asked me this question yesterday, and there's only one person that my position I'm about.
I'm from Syracuse and it is Bella because he was ableto to bring home the title in that one year.
When you compare us, the comparisons unfair because you're comparing his one freshman year to my senior, which was comparable numbers and all that.
But I was a little bit a little bit more efficient because I was older and more mature.
So of course I should be more efficient.
I'm I was 22 as opposed to when he was 18 plan.
So that's the difference But obviously he's better and he has a better n b a career and be a first ballot hall of Famer.
He'll be our second.
Syracuse played the end of the Hall of Fame with a being so absolutely man, it's mellow.
But I would love I would love in my prime and his prime to be And I love it.
I love to see it.
That was my favorite thing playing playing one on one all day, every day.
I guess I know from experience I e talking about Syracuse.
So, you know, there are a lot of legends come out and play for Syracuse.
Um, And if you had to pick your top your starting five, right, take yourself out of it.
But if you have to coach 85 start using who that be on.
I gotta take myself out of it.
Why would I take myself out of it? I am saying e myself out of it.
Um, so my point guard, it is gonna be pearl with Pearl and Sherm, you know? But it is pearl because he just meant so much.
Everything up the queues RFP pearl and and at the tube spot.
Who? Lawrence most all time scoring leader.
Yeah, Stevie Thompson was just phenomenal.
G man put up some bunkers.
Ain't won a national championship, you know, But I gotta go with Lawrence Moat, man.
You know, the scoring supreme.
So that's my tune.
And at the threes, mellow.
I'm at the four and they're coming at the five.
And I put that college team has ever been assembled.
That would be a tough That'd be a tough team to beat.
That'd be a super tough team to beat Fu.
You got the clutch play, man.
You got the scoring.
Forget about Derrick Coleman.
Derrick Coleman was a Coleman was my goodness.
Therefore, the problem I do was Well, let's let's go back to Syracuse.
This will make you feel good.
You know, after you destroy ST John's, you know I'm going to give you something.
Well, I e destroy them on the court.
Should come off a e one year, man.
Come on. All right, all right. You got it. You get Syracuse. Yeah.
Only that's the only memories I had as a kid in college.
Like you don't have any colleges.
But you know, you have that great run in 96.
Obviously, you guys, unfortunately, felt too Kentucky.
You were born out that year on.
Do you gotta take us through that play against Georgia? You know what? I'm talking about the out of bounds play, Jason, pull over.
Shannon Anderson, man, Granderson just missed that ball.
That was my old.
My first love was football, so I was a quarterback.
So that was my That was like going back to my quarterback days, putting enough touching arc on the ball to get it right over the, you know, the defender's hand, but right into my Jason Pola hit him right in the shooting pockets and go right into his shot.
Um, first part of that was Coach Boeheim being smart enough to tell me that they could convince me to take the ball out because I wanted to take the shot, obviously.
But he was like, You're our best passer best in mountain.
And if we don't even down the ball properly, it doesn't matter.
So hey, had he had he had the wherewithal that convinced me.
Thio, take the ball out.
He hit that shot, man.
I just remember being so thankful and grateful for him hitting that shots.
I knew we were gonna win in overtime.
And, of course, you hit the big E.
No, you just want to get Thio three point shot, uh, to win the game.
So of course he said I know we're gonna win over time.
Of course it goes to John Watson, I think.
What the already I finished with 30 and 15.
So I was getting garden me and I'm obviously reminded them every 28 seconds that they couldn't guard me just in case they forgot that little A on all points.
But can you take You are the Kentucky game because you went off in that Kentucky game as well to 29 points, uh, 19.
That game right there, man was, you know, obviously looking back, obviously, uh, Kentucky was the the better team won.
The best teams are ever playing in finalists, right? 89 n b a. Guys.
Uh, but that night was our night.
And finally I thought we would have won.
It was because, you know, I had those boys like Antoine Walter E Remember Antoine coming up to me after the game and bases being like, because at the time I put it on him so much, he's like, you're gonna make me stay in school then, you know, changing.
I gave them boys, you know, I was talking, you know, talking crazy to him the whole game and giving them buckets.
And I'm talking Pitino.
I'm talking everybody.
Right, man? That that game, that's one game I've never watched afterwards.
I went to the locker room, just started tearing the locker room up when I realized we were gonna lose the game.
So, um, you know, they were the better team.
But that night was our night until out mhm.
I know that Burns.
I know it burns as tough.
I know it burns.
I know it burns.
So talk to us about power forward.
So problem for, you know, in this podcast podcast, we're doing our SportsCastrs.
You go go to Twitter 44.
John Wallace, 44.
We're gonna be doing our thing on there, man, with some Syracuse guys talking a lot of Syracuse sports and life business, finances everything we're gonna touch.
We're gonna run the whole gamut.
Uh, not gonna just be a sports related show.
We're gonna be talking about everything.
Our family lives.
Uh, everything, man gonna touch on all the topics.
My first guest is gonna be My boy, my partner in crime, Lawrence mowing.
Uh, it will be in my first guest.
And I'm looking forward to that.
And, you know, we're gonna do it right, man, I can't wait. SportsCastrs.
There's a great company and my man Mixu packs, But they're doing some great things behind the scenes.
And we're gonna get him, Uh, you know, out in front of the camera a little bit too.
00 you're gonna get him out in front of Okay.
Well, I'm looking forward to that way.
You know, a few times a week looking forward to seeing get on the camera.
E got your link.
I'm about to put your link in all the chats so people could go ahead and, you know, follow you on SportsCastr so they could be ready for the, you know, so they could get ready for the podcast.
I'm looking forward.
What made you guys going to, like this whole Nick? Things like that, are you? Lifetime, Nick Fan? What player made you a Knick fan? Oh, yeah.
I mean, I'm just a lifetime Knicks fan, man.
I mean, from e mean, Patrick Ewing is my favorite, Nick, You know, Pat you And that's my favorite Nick of all time.
I got a bunch of pairs of Patrick Ewing sneakers in my class E releases that when they came out years ago, I got some new.
Yeah, I got some new releases I don't have.
I'm gonna order something, though.
Like they've been coming out with E p m d Ewings.
And, you know, Ewing's with all the rap.
You know, bunch of rappers on it, ese.
So, you know, I'm looking at, you know, build my collection of those unions with basketball sneakers in eighth grade.
Um, but yeah, I became a fan way back in, like, I don't know, 85 86.
You know, I'm saying and then that's all that I did.
I mean, there were times when I didn't have I didn't have cable.
You know I lay down and just listen to the radio listening to walk.
Clyde called the games every night.
You know what I'm saying? I mean, exactly, you know what I'm saying? So I mean, that was just the Knicks just always been there.
You know what I'm saying? Just always been there always been a Knicks fan, and no matter what happens, no matter what I'm going through, what they go through, I'm just a Knicks fan.
I'm gonna defend them to the death.
No, I'm the same way.
Yeah, mine is My path is a little weird.
So our first game I remember watching like as a kid barely watching was a game in 93 versus the sons and the sons uniform.
That year, I thought was dope is held, and I was like, That's the wrong team.
I'm not supposed to be phenomena is like, okay, I'm from Brooklyn.
Okay. New York Knicks.
My favorite player growing up toe watch.
Used to be just the watch was Anthony Mason because used to have the part in his head, like the night e design crazy designs.
And I was like, Oh, man, that was cool, but yeah, Ewing is my all time favorite. Great.
But a guy that I was like, No, I wanna emulate my game after it was Allan Houston.
Just because I was the shooter, Because I don't have the speeding explosion to, like, be all these kids in the hood.
There's like, these kids were crossing or whatever everybody wanna do Iverson herself.
And like I tried, I was like, Yeah, I don't have I don't like that, but I e I mean kind of block e You want to see me? If you want to give me a point, You know, I mean, I could call any game you do it, man, but I'm ready to try it again.
Oh, all the back in the day when I played when I was Jane, you down crossing e a shoulder in your chest? E Now he remembers it vividly, e but yeah, that was my That was my path to the next man and again, man, I'm a I'm too loyal, man.
I never move away.
I'm a I mean, if you hear the teams on my part.
I love I'm a knicks.
I'm a Met Jets Manchester United States.
So I don't all my team has been doing terrible, but, you know, I mean, when we do good, I mean mets in 2015 Jets in 2000, 10,011.
You know, there's nothing like a good New York team doing well, man.
When the Knicks want you to remember, it's not a lot of years that you guys did good.
So see how quickly we call that e.
Okay, E o e o abuse all day, man.
I don't know how much time you got mad, but it's really been fun.
I'm really looking forward to to the podcast next next Tuesday.
Is there a specific time that that it debuts? No, we're working on the time and when, When it's actually gonna air If there's gonna be live and all that.
But we'll work out everything, but we'll definitely shoot it.
Tuesday, I think it's gonna be live, but I'm not 100% sure.
But I have to venture and say probably will be live.
Yeah, Hopefully it is live because I'm definitely jumping in the chat when is live and, uh, you know, see what you guys talking about a couple jabs out there or something, you know? Yeah, We're looking forward to it, man.
Trying to trying to get up.
Thio Syracuse. Great.
I mean, people want to hear what you're talking about.
You're going to be there with moving and not just talk about basketball, because remember, a lot of these kids coming in you spent four years in college.
I mean, you develop years, guys spending one year in college and they're coming MBA, basically still teenagers.
So they need guidance from guys like you They don't have.
I mean, a lot of players say they do this, and I'm not saying they don't but to have somebody like you on YouTube.
But on the Internet, on sports, Caster talking to people, talk about finances, hardship myself.
I mean, a lot of kids were coming up.
They're going to get that guidance that they're not getting, you know, from a You are from this agent trying todo you're touching a lot of things that you normally don't touch.
You touch on everything.
Yeah, that's good.
Because like, you're saying, these young guys, you know they need to hear from former players you know, you know, you can have the basketball association and yeah, the M v p a And you know, things that I know they set up classes and stuff like that.
Uh, trying todo hope we're with the young guys coming into the league, giving them more financial literacy.
Uh, just trying to make them more aware of what's going on the business around, Uh, they're not all all, you know, getting taken advantage of.
Because in this world, when you get money too young, I don't care who you are.
You don't know what to do with it yet.
Your 20 something young early twenties, just like your early 29 Walter.
And you hit it big on one of your stocks or whatever.
You kind of lose it eventually because you just you get it too young.
Unless you have some good guidance people around me who really, really care about you e leech off.
You will really care about you and and also can add can be an asset to can have anyone just lead.
You got something to the pot at some point, right? Right, right.
Have you had any of you know because, you know, you've been in the league, Been around the league, Had a historic college career.
Have you had any players come up to you? Just any.
Any Knicks come up to you, Nick.
Players come up to you.
Just ask you for some advice about E talk to all the guys.
Especially Syracuse guys.
I'm always, uh, phone call, the way they all have my number.
And it's not just Syracuse or Nick guys, you know, kids in general like I meet and all my Nick events.
Like there's a couple kids I've kept in touch with over the last 89 years that started out as little kids and stayed and stayed in touch via text.
I haven't seen him in, like, eight or nine years, but he text me all the time.
He's in college now.
He's doing well.
Eso I just try to help out anybody.
Sometimes they're like, you know, you shouldn't give you a number, everybody, but I'm like I only text back people.
I want to talk to you so you don't care to text e wanna talk to you? We're just not gonna talk.
I mean, I'm not changing my number anything that avoid anything.
If I don't want to talk to you, I probably won't return your text.
And that's just where it goes.
E have one last question because, you know, you know, like I said, my favorite player of all times When Patrick, can you give us a funny story about Patrick Ewing from the time you were with him? Well, I got a bunch of funny Ewing stories from him playing, uh, you know, whenever the reggae music came on, just seeing his body get like a like electricity, like it's just like because he'd be sitting there, you know, his nickname is the beast. He works.
No one worked harder than had unequivocally No one ever worked harder than him.
So he's, you know, he's just just this certainly working hard every day.
Then then you hear some reggae music.
Come on and just see this like, you just start dancing the feeling the oh, okay.
But my favorite past story, because when Patrick came from Jamaica and then Massachusetts and went to college and you know he got he got heavily ridiculed wrongfully.
So because obviously anyone that goto Georgetown a smart so for people to imply that he wasn't smart or whatever they were doing back then.
Thio be demeaning to him.
He dealt with a lot of bull back then way all Remember that.
So because of that, you know, he doesn't really.
He's kind of stand office Thio some people over here when he was a player, like in terms of signing stuff, right? But in Jamaica, when I was with Patrick, I went on a trip with him.
He took me over there and I saw him saying autographs for hours for I mean, the line was miles long and he signed all of them and and and it don't really hit me.
And it made sense to me that he is with his people and he got turned off in America so much.
So many people were so against him for no reason, like there was no reason to be against Patrick Ewing.
He was a great player.
Unless he's like, you know, against your team.
I can understand that.
But they have visceral hate that was shown towards him, you know, it just wasn't it was unwarranted.
So to see him in that light was a beautiful thing. for me.
And I always like to bring that up because it was awesome to see that that side of Patrick only that people over here rarely get a chance to see playing, you know? So I'm going to see that side of Patman signing autographs for hours for everyone.
I think the whole country Jamaica got autograph that night, man.
It was It was incredible, man.
Really? Waas It was dope.
Alright, that s a little cool.
Man Recipes John Thompson, Thank God Pat recovered from Covert 19 eso.
Hey, John has been has been great.
I would love to do it again sometime.
Uh, it's been great, man.
Please, please bring me back anytime you guys want E hope you're not to upset me, man.
You got a little You got a little post game. I got you.
Yeah, but you know the thing.
You're not realizing that postgame.
There's a lot of elbows to that e, But thank you so much.
I appreciate you guys keep doing your what you're doing because you guys are the true true Knick fans.
And you got the true nick enthusiasts out there will follow you guys listen to you guys all the time and I'm one of them.
So thank you guys so much, man. Truly appreciate.
We appreciate it.

It was fun, man.
I'm looking to get that.
I am looking to get a rematch, though.
Oh, we got we gotta get We gotta get a rematch.
So I mean, I don't meet many NBA players, man, but, I mean, he's probably seems like one of the most humble guys, man Guys, Nothing to it, you know? So, guys, please again, power forward.
Little guys goto a SportsCastr.
And not many times when we have access like this two players like this, we're humble enough eso all those answers.
You know, I'm not gonna be fascinating crazy, but, you know, there's no filler, anything, so we could pick his brain.
You know, I love to do it again, guys, But again, he has the powerful podcast.

I come on the show, I'm coming in.
All right. I'm gonna Whatever.
Hey, I'm just, uh we'll see.
Then they just signed Antonio Brown.
They just signed Antonio Brown, too.
I think it s so maybe maybe their chemistry will be a little bit off since they just signed Antonio Brown.
You know, maybe the chemistry chemistry with Ben Roethlisberger, and he's probably one of the best receivers You don't know.
I'm just saying, you know, I'm just saying, you know, if he, you know, I'm assuming he's going to debut against the Giants.
Maybe the chemistry just be a little bit off.
You know, you never know.
Bobble the ball right to your end zone and then drop it.
You might do something.
He's a little off kilter.
He's off kilter game with hatred, E.
I guess the dolphins he put up some absurd.
I'm just saying maybe, you know, we got a e trying to pull something out.
Think about some way.
Way like the Jets.
I'm going into Sunday.
We're playing the Chiefs e.
I'm not saying we're gonna win.
I'm just saying, You know, if we **** some way, find a way to make it a a good game.
Like there's a giant still in the playoff hunt.
This is how it is that it's how pathetic the NFC asses, man.
But smooth human again.
I'm coming out with the care Lewis videos, so watch out for that. Just been stupid.
I think I got my o.
