What's up, everybody? Welcome into the hateful hitman podcast talking Florida State a couple of days later on this wanted to get out here and talk about it here on SportsCastr.
I have to go back.
I started watching the Seminoles back when, uh, Peter Tom Willis was the quarterback.
So that kind of dates how old I am and I win this, uh, you know, my journey and passionate for F S u Conn took off.
I cannot think of a quarterback that for the state has had under center.
Even before that, that was as gifted as a running the football and elusiveness at the quarterback position as Jordan Travis's.
Okay, I I go through all these quarterbacks.
Christian Ponder was a a a good enough runner.
He made things happen.
Um, made smart decisions, you know, two master's degrees, whatever their for ponder.
But he was a good runner.
Ward was ah, good enough runner toe where? You know, when he took off, he was a threat.
But he wasn't, you know, just like a blazing speed.
He was enough to win you the Heisman Trophy, you know, and a championship back then.
And he was kind of like the prototype, you know, for for the quarterback position before, that was a big thing.
He was the mobile quarterback before, you know, quarterbacks were really mobile.
I can't think of anybody other than those two guys who were really ah, threat to truck took the ball and run with it.
The way Jordan Travis's and his passing is is getting better.
Okay, he does have an arm, It's a live arm.
His accuracy is improving and it will continue to improve, as he, you know, grows as a college football player.
So, athletically, you know, you've had you've had more gifted players.
Um, you know, Jamous, Winky.
Those guys were all probably mawr, you know, gifted as quarterbacks.
But what we've seen from Jordan, Travis has not only been so impressive throughout the course of this season, but it's also saved the F S U season.
Those guys are now playing behind him.
He's grabbed that team.
He's taken control as his team now and and he's taken control of that team and they have rallied behind him.
He is tough, is they come.
He will take a hit or even when he shouldn't take a hit.
It's gonna come back to body. Um, someday.
But you know what? A victory against the number five North Carolina Tar Heels Saturday night.
You know, for this program when it needed it so desperately.
And, you know, you think back to these winds the F S use had over schools that were ranked higher than them.
You know, 0607 Boston College comes to mind when they beat Matt Ryan up there. Chestnut Hill.
Nobody saw that coming.
Uh, you know, not very many people, including myself, saw this coming.
Um, I thought that when they jumped out there at halftime and was able to go down and score with a minute left, I thought, Okay, this this they could win this game.
But you had to know with Sam how being a good quarterback as he is and the weapons he had around him that they weren't just going to roll over and die, that they had to dynamic of of a team to just give up.
So it wasn't gonna be a blow out.
They're going to make a run now.
Had not a couple of penalties happened there early in the second half f s.
You could have put it away, but, you know, they let him score, let him hang around.
And, you know, it ended up being a little bit of a nail biter there again, you know, just thinking that, you know, you kind of thought there's way too much time here.
They're going to come down, score, and F s u is gonna lose a heartbreaker, you know, And then you would really have some serious people clamoring.
Um, you know about, you know, Willy Taggert are not Willy Taggert, but everybody's still talking about Willy Taggert.
We need to let that thing go talking about Mike Norvell.
You know, how did you let this game get away from you? But they didn't and they rallied around.
The offense was fantastic.
The defense showed up like I sent out a tweet.
I said, Well, who is this team I'm watching? Who is this and what in the world's going on because they play like they have been supposed to be in playing.
They were getting pressure.
They was in house face and knocking him down and beating him up all night long.
The pass rush was their blitz was getting there.
You had decent coverage in the secondary.
I say Decent because you can't take away from what do u N.
C had offensively.
They've got two of the best, probably the best 12 punch of wide receiver, not just in the A C. C.
But, you know, maybe in college football, of course, with what? With what Alabama did to Georgia.
You got some some serious, you know, competition there.
But those guys Tommy Brown and, uh, Dad's Newsome are are fantastic.
Those guys were both going probably play on Sunday Sunday.
So, you know, they had there was up against some serious gas and, you know, they held their ground and, uh, you know, you can't really knock anything.
Even though the defense was going to give up some points they were going to get back in this game, you had to know that, but a couple of things that were really negative was the the play by Dante Lucas when he got into it there with that defensive back and he smacked him in the head.
Very costly, very unnecessary.
And, you know, hopefully we don't ever have to experience that again.
Um, you know, there was a couple of plays where you know F s you got flagged.
The hit Where the hit where? Ah, no, I can't think of his name. He got ejected.
Uh, Coe Durden got ejected from the game.
Um, that was just bad luck.
I mean, Sam, how was falling down? He was coming in.
You know, you can't really say much about that, but there was some boneheaded play still, and they stuff they just gotta fix now on the offensive side.
You know, there was some stuff that didn't get flag couple of late hits out of bounds from Carolina on FS Youse guys that didn't get flags.
I thought it was very strange because the one was blatantly, you know, late hit.
But at the end of the game, though, okay? And you could say at the end of the day, But at the end of the game, they found a way to hang in there and won a couple of bad throws by Sam.
How on that last drive gave the ball back to Florida State, and you can Maybe you can, uh, even, you know, give that to the defense because they had been in his face and his grill all game and then all of a sudden, maybe he was, you know, hearing ghosts that weren't there.
And, you know, he threw the ball a little bit.
Aaron, you know, on that third and the fourth down play.
And, you know, maybe that was, you know, because of the defense had been up his butt all game long, and they really weren't.
There was no pressure there.
I think they were dropping back, you know, to protect.
But even so, if that's what it waas, then f s.
You did their job throughout the course of the game getting in Sam House head, and he made a couple of bad throws and in turn the ball over.
And by that, you know, then you got 34 seconds and the games out of control.
So great win for Florida State.
For if I was jumping all over the place when they got the ball.
When? When you and see scored at the end of the first half and F s, you got the ball back with a minute to go, and I looked at the TV and I said, Okay, Norville.
Step on the gas and he did in four plays later, there's a corner touchdown and getting that touchdown right back to U N C score I That's what I thought right there.
Okay, they're gonna have an answer this whole entire game.
Luckily, those points that they ac***ulated in the first half was enough to get the win because they weren't able to score anything in the second half.
A couple of missed field goals.
I'm not sold on that kid kicking right now.
Uh, you know, you can call me a homer from being in Ohio here, but Parker growed house from Indian Lake.
I mean, what's wrong with him? They say he's got the strongest leg there was gonna warm him up for a 50 plus yarder.
But then Travis at the big play down the field, they didn't need They didn't need him.
Eso If he's got the leg and the accuracy from long distance, why isn't Parker Growth house during the kicking? He kicked week one, and he was okay.
He did miss a kick.
You're gonna miss a kick butt when you miss too.
Okay, make a kick.
That were may Kable.
It wasn't like they were 55 yarders and it was just, you know, terrible.
But, you know, you gotta make those kicks, those two field goals, that six more points that you know, if things in a different direction there at the end, F s u is gonna need those points going throughout the course of the season.
They've got a quarterback next week.
That is way more mobile than Sam.
How they play Louisville, okay.
And Malik cutting ham is way more mobile, and he has a dynamic wide receiver out to his left and another, uh, stud running back with J V and Hawkins.
This team's gonna pose problems, so they're gonna have to score, and and it may come down to a field goal and they're gonna have to address the field goal situation.
Oh, that special teams was fantastic.
I mean, block, kick, block, front.
I mean, fantastic.
Just all around.
And they said at the halftime, if you watch the game, they went in a halftime, and the announcer said UNC has no idea what just hit him.
They're completely shell shocked.
They don't know what's in them right now, and so I mean they they obviously regroup because its's good coach team, Mack Brown's fantastic and, you know, I was gonna come out, make a run.
But you know, FFS, you can put two halves together like that for the rest of the season.
They're gonna be competitive in every game except probably the one against Clemson, because they're going to get rolled.
And I think that's no, no, ah, secret.
They're going to get, you know Clemson's gonna, but they need to show up in that game.
They need to show up and let claims No, there there probably not gonna win.
But if they keep it, you know, a couple scores and they're there and their competitive, that's all you really want.
There's several games on the schedule now that if they continue to grow and then keep the quarterback play healthy and LaDainian Weber in the vault, LaDainian Web is awesome.
He's got great balance and he's got a burst and he he's a really good running back.
I hope he sticks around for a good while.
He could be really good, but, you know, they continue to get better and each week we've seen a lot of progression ever since that nasty night.
You're there in Miami where they got smoked, but they're getting better.
And this was their first win, not only just against the top five team in the country, you know, against a Division one since last year. Sometime.
I don't even remember when I don't I don't know the schedule, the back of my head.
But they're coming along and Taggart's the right guy.
I keep saying this every week, not Taggart.
Why? I keep saying Tagger, Gotta get talking about daggers.
That goes for me, too.
Norville is the right guy, nor Valls the guy for this job, and he's gonna take that.
He keeps saying he's gonna build this program the right way, and he's doing that one step at a time.
Do they need to address defense? Absolutely.
But it was way better.
It was way better than anything we've seen for some weeks, going back in the last year and maybe even the year before.
So it's coming good.
Better time to come in, or Valls the right guy for this position.
And, you know, we just got to give him a chance.
So that's about 12 minutes of time I'd like to talk about it over 15 minutes, but you know we're getting there.
And if you're a seminal fan like I am, you've got to be happy with what we've seen on the field over these past two weeks.
And it just got to grow.
Get better against Louisville, one game at a time.
And, you know, hopefully, by the end of this there's a There's some semblance of of what could happen, you know, a year or two down the road.
So that's all I got.
Thanks for watching.
Um, I'll have my podcast out Wednesday evening talking about Week six and going into Week seven.
Crazy week again.
Um, so thanks for watching.
We'll see you next time on the hit man show.
